ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Gary Schneider is the William S. Perlroth Professor of Accounting at Quinnipiac
University. He previously held teaching appointments at the University of San
Diego, the University of Tennessee, and Xavier University. The author of more
than 50 books and 100 research papers, Dr. Schneider has written extensively on
accounting and information systems topics with his work appearing in such
journals as INTERFACES, IS AUDIT & CONTROL JOURNAL, and JOURNAL OF INFORMATION
SYSTEMS. His books have been translated into Chinese, French, Italian, Korean,
and Spanish. A CPA who practiced public accounting in Ohio for 14 years before
undertaking his academic career, Dr. Schneider holds a Ph.D. in accounting
information systems from the University of Tennessee, an MBA from Xavier
University, and a BA in economics from the University of Cincinnati.

Gary Schneider is a Professor of Accounting in the College of Business at
California State University Monterey Bay. His prior academic appointments
include the University of Cincinnati, Quinnipiac University, the University of
Tennessee, Xavier University, and the University of San Diego. He has taught
accounting systems, auditing, management accounting, electronic commerce,
database design, managerial decision making, supply chain management, cost
accounting, and a number of other business courses. At Quinnipiac University, he
served as Chair of the Accounting Department; at the University of San Diego, he
served as academic director of the school’s graduate programs in electronic
commerce and information systems. He has won several teaching awards, including
the University of San Diego Graduate Business Students Association’s Professor
of the Year award in 2001.
Gary has written nine books and more than 100 research papers on a variety of
accounting, information systems, and management topics. His books have been
published in more than 60 editions and versions, including Chinese, French,
Italian, Korean, and Spanish translations. Gary’s research has been funded by
the Irvine Foundation and the U.S. Office of Naval Research. His work has
appeared in a number of journals, including Accounting Horizons, the Journal of
Information Systems, Interfaces, the Information Systems Audit & Control Journal
and Issues in Accounting Education. He has served as editor of the Accounting
Systems and Technology Reporter and the Business Studies Journal, as associate
editor of the Journal of Global Information Management, as accounting editor of
Advances in Accounting, Economics and Finance, and on the editorial boards of
the Journal of Information Systems, the Journal of Electronic Commerce in
Organizations, the Journal of Database Management, and the Information Systems
Audit & Control Journal.
Gary has lectured at universities and businesses throughout the United States,
Europe, South America, and Asia. He has provided consulting and training
services to a number of major clients, including Gartner, Gateway, Honeywell,
the National Science Foundation, Qualcomm, and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
In 1999, he was named a Fellow of the Gartner Institute. In 2002, the University
of San Diego awarded him the Clarence Steber Professorship. In 2008, Quinnipiac
University named him the William S. Perlroth Professor of Accounting and he won
the University’s Outstanding Faculty Scholar award in 2012. He was named a
Distinguished Visiting Professor in 2013 by the Instituto Tecnológico y de
Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Campus Guadalajara. Gary is a licensed CPA in
Ohio, where he practiced public accounting for 14 years.
Gary holds a Ph.D. in accounting information systems from the University of
Tennessee, an MBA in accounting from Xavier University, and a BA in economics
from the University of Cincinnati.

and something you can even conduct a search on. But if you take a
course which needs this book then please educate yourself on web
technologies using the internet. But do not spend any more than $10
on this book. I would rather take an online video course at a corporate
training jobs center on E-commerce than buy this book.

I bought this text book for a class on Electronic Commerce. This was the only
recommended textbook. The class comprised mostly of students from MIS major and
also students from a variety of other disciplines like computer science,
mechanical, MBA, entre etc.
On a first glance, the book covers a good range of topics and also includes a
few cases (one page scenarios about companies). The content is so generally
written that you would have spent an hour reading a chapter and the amount of
information you absorbed would be so little. Most of the information present in
this book can VERY EASILY be obtained from wikipedia or a simple google search.
From my perception and a little searching, the author is an accountant. He has
very limited knowledge of electronic commerce and of computer science, which can
easily be inferred from so many instances in the book, where the terminology
(especially computer science) is wrongly used. The author does not even have a
website, let alone an e-commerce site.
To make matters worse, the author has written numerous other books in various
niches. Personally, I would call him an opportunist, who rips off hundreds of
dollars for every copy sold. It is so sad to see that this book is being sold
for over $100. After all, there are no techniques involved, (like an algorithms
book) and is just plain information which keeps changing so often. You WILL find
all information from this book with a simple web search and/or wikipedia.
I prefer to read a book written by someone who has the expertise and knowledge
on the field, for instance someone who has been a successful business
professional in e-commerce and not by someone who just gathered all the
information from the internet and sells it for $100.
I was able to convince my professor about the above facts and this book is NO
longer prescribed as a textbook.
If you pay more than $10, it is a waste of money!

taking 12 credits in addition to holding a full time job I really don't have
time for a book that rambles on and on; coming back time and time again from
different angles and different scenarios. This book, while it has some useful
information, could have been half as thick. For the love of Grand Architect of
the Universe -> PLEASE GET TO THE POINT so I can get to my other homework.
