From Sunlight to Lightbulb


Solar panels are mounted on a flat surface, preferably with a clear view of the
sky.
Solar panels are composed of 2 layers of a semiconductor (usually silicon),
glass, and wire for conduction
A neutral silicon atom contains 14 positively charged protons at its core and 14
negatively charged electrons in shells around it.
Light particles from the sun (photons) strike the silicon atom.
The energy from the photons knock electrons loose from the outer shell. When an
electron moves, it emits electric energy.
This process of loose, moving electrons is repeated in sequence, so that
electrons move around the solar cells and create an electric current.
The direct electrical current from the electrons is converted into an
alternating current via an inverter, which can be connected to your home’s power
supply.
