Merry Christmas And Happy New Year!

Hello SGXP. It's been a few weeks since I announced in our Discord server that
the site would be going down for maintenance to move to a new host. Well now we
are back!

 

Maybe some of you were not aware of the purpose of us moving. In as much as I
can sum it up, cost and old technologies were the two main reasons. I was
growing weary of our previous host because of the added costs they were tacking
on due to us using an older version of php, so it was apparent that it was
becoming more important for us to switch to new technologies, ones that would
enable us to function better on the new web.

 

There is a lot to still be accomplished, but for now, rest assured that there
are more good things on the way. You might not be able to tell, but a lot of
things have been upgraded (Besides the slick new UI). A few of these include:

 

 * A brand new headless CMS supporting our new API (which is being used to make
   this post).
 * A new subdomain old.sgxp.me to host our old site while we migrate old code.
   (Note that things like the Forum and Comics section do not work)
 * Fully hosting our source code at Github, which is now being deployed
   automatically through Netlify.
 * A fast new Digital Ocean server being used to run our back end dependencies.

 

Without more detail, its a lot. The migration was well worth it though. If
you've been in our Discord server you've probably heard me talk a lot about how
much I've wanted to have upload functionality for our sprite section, as its
been a pain in the arse to update (hence why you haven't seen one for the past
two years). With our new systems in place, I'm hoping to finally change all of
that and give you all a real sprite section that receives regular uploads from
all you talented people.

 

So, the roadmap for now is this:

 

 1. Migrate the remaining old code to the new system.
 2. Finish creating the structure for the new sprite system and open back up for
    submissions.
 3. Continuing building new tools to enable our website to host other content
    (comics, WIP sprite gallery, wayback links, etc.)
 4. Create a user account system and UI to allow you all to join in and post
    your own content

 

The future is pretty exciting to me, and I can't wait to get everything built
during this next year. In the mean time, enjoy our three new themes: 

 

 * Christmas 
 * Fireside 
 * Battle Network.
