Das Sound 8 Orchestra ist das Projekt des Musikers und Multiinstrumentalisten
Matthias Wyder.
Die Musik umspannt die Genres Easy Listening, Low-Budget, Lounge-Musik,
Retro-Futuristische B-Movie-Soundtracks und psychedelische Electro Sounds
irgendwo zwischen Lee Perry, Add N To X, Sun Ra und James Bond Soundtracks.
Der besondere Reiz des Projekts liegt in den Liveauftritten: Unterstützt von
Live Drumming werden die Instrumental Tracks live geremixt. Zu Wyders
Keyboardsounds projizieren drei Super 8 Film Projektoren Found Footage-Filme,
was zu einem einmaligen analogen und audiovisuellen Erlebnis führt.
Das Neue Album „VOL.4" (Lp / Digital) erschien auf dem eigenen Label S8O
Records. Auf Vinyl erhältlich bei Bandcamp und digital auf allen bekannten
Plattformen.
Aufgenommen wurden die Zwölf Tracks während den letzten zwei Jahren in den Sound
8 Laboratories in Berlin Lichtenberg.
Das Projekt kombiniert verschiedene Stile der elektronischen Musik, Electro, New
Wave, Easy Listening, Psyhedelic Rock und Filmmusik.
Eingespielt mit verschiedensten Analogen Synthesizer wie die Korg MS10 und MS20,
Juno 60, Sequential Sixtrack, Korg Poly 800, Fender Rhodes, Vermona Piano, Wersi
Comet, Antonelli Orgel, Casio Orgeln, Wersimatic Super Sequencer, Sequential
Drumtracks, Roland TR 707, Roland TR 33, Saxofone, Gitarren und Hawai Gitarre.

The Shift is a collaboration between Phoebe Killdeer & Ole Wulfers.
The Shift's use of sonic space dips you momentarily in a parallel dream filled
with familiarity and warmth. Storytelling through experimental gestures and
abstract instrumentation, brushing diverse genres without the need to
categorize. Its a subtle image reflecting a sound of humanity. Some songs are
heard, others perceived, others are like images or moments frozen in time. they
seem to sketch and carve away at the sonic vibrations all around. The end
result comes across more as a film soundtrack than an album.
Ole Wulfers has been involved in numerous performances all over the world, in
music and also art installations. As a band member of Party Diktator he did a
Peel session at bbc london. Beginning of this century he founded Kapaikos
electric mandolin orchestra with mandolins inherited of his grandmother Mimi.
Ole also builds his own music instruments. he worked in collaboration with
experimental electronics helsinki and cirkuljia Ljubljana where he investigated
the correlation between fluid dynamics and sounds of stressed materials. He
builds and develops mechanisms to explore the varying ways to approach sound.

Riah Knight // Musically, the British singer-songwriter, works at the
intersection of trip-hop, RnB, new-wave folk and performance poetry. Together
with producer Shaban, her sultry sound weaves through a landscape of strong
female archetypes and symbols of the natural world. Ethereal and soulful, Riah’s
music can be both deeply personal and playfully political. On Alchemy Riah says:
“For me this song is about love: about a low down, primal, hungry desire. The
eroticism of fecundity, the religion of lust. About saints and kings and holy
bodies, but mostly it is about the mothers who cook with alchemy.”

Riah is not only a singer-songwriter, jazz musician, and actress but is also
Romni. She is surprised that people often know nothing about Roma and Sinti*zze
apart from stereotypes - even though they are the largest ethnic minority in
Europe.

The musician first became known for her writing, composing and performing for
theatre. She has worked extensively with director Yael Ronen at Gorki and is
part of the feminist collective Glossy Pain.

"Riah Knight and producer Shaban are poised to release their debut single
together 'Alchemy' on March 3rd, which will be followed by the track ‘Love,
Truth and Money’ on April 12th.
We were able to get a sneak peak of Riahs new coming work at the Vignettes show
in last December - now looking forward to her full show with band.

fraen // The Berlin-based singer-songwriter, fraen, deals with personal
feelings, experiences, and spiritual growth in her songs. Influenced by artists
such as Amy Winehouse, Erykah Badu, Etta James, D'Angelo, and Jill Scott, fraen
started to transform her thoughts into songs and let the universe guide her. Her
sound fuses alternative R'n'B, neo-soul, UK garage, and drum'n'bass. fraen
combines her thoughtful, melancholic voice with soulful beats and electronic
elements. After collaborating with the German-Jamaican producer and soul singer
Tender Games on a song for the dance movie "Fly" (2021), he co-produced fraen's
debut EP "every cloud has a silver lining". Her latest single 'everything but'
is the first of six songs from her upcoming EP "how's your summer been?", which
will be released throughout this year.

Auch wahr: Fast 30 Jahre nach Auflösung der Potsdamer Ostpunk-Legende Re-Aktion
treffen zwei der damaligen Protagonisten wieder zusammen und machen Punk dass
die Bude qualmt, kein Energieabfall nirgends. Weitere Spuren in den Biografien
der vier Musiker führen zu den Balotellis, Crude b.e., Y, Chainbreaker, Radio
Schizo usw.... ZIRKUS ZIRKUS ist keine gutgelaunte Punkrock-Butterfahrt, sondern

LSD – Liebe Statt Drogen ist eine der bekanntesten Lesebühnen Berlins. Jeden
Dienstagabend gestalten die 5 Mitglieder von LSD und eingeladene Gäste im
Berliner Schokoladen ein Programm aus neuen Texten und Songs. Gegründet 1996
besteht LSD heute aus den Mitgliedern Andreas „Spider“ Krenzke, Tobias „Tube“
Herre, Uli Hannemann, Eva Mirasol und Ivo Lotion. Alle 5 genannten Künstler sind
als Autoren und Musiker auch in anderen Bereichen aktiv.

LSD bietet jeden 1. & 3. Dienstag ein Offenes Mikro für Menschen an, die spontan
etwas vortragen wollen. Beachtet bitte, dass der Beitrag selbstverfasst sein
muss und nicht länger als 6 Minuten dauert. Wer am Offenen Mikro liest, braucht
keinen Eintritt zahlen und bekommt ein Freigetränk.

Badgers Debüt-EP war für die Zitty-Redaktion „eine der Platten
des Jahres“ und auch anderswo war man begeistert von den „tief
ausgeloteten Klangräumen aus fett gemischter Breitwand-Elektronika“
(Nordsee-Zeitung). Schnell führte der Weg ins Vorprogramm von
nationalen und internationalen Größen wie Hundeds, Jamie Lidell oder
The Night Game. Nun ist Max Wiegand zurück mit seinem ersten
Longplayer. Auf „Fed“ setzt der Wahlberliner noch konsequenter auf
die Mischung aus urban-atmosphärischen Synth-Sounds und großer
Eingängigkeit im dunklen Gewand. Die Beats reichen von tanzbar bis
experimentell, die Klangräume sind tiefer, das Songwriting noch
zwingender als auf dem Debüt. Textlich verknüpft Badger den
persönlichen Struggle mit der Überforderung durch eine gefühlt
immer komplizierter werdende Welt. Er zweifelt („No Answer“),
trauert („Meet My Maker“) und scheitert („Promises“), um an
anderer Stelle gegen die Verzagtheit anzukämpfen(„Nothing“) und
das Gute im eigenen Leben zu erkennen und wertzuschätzen(„Tender
Creatures“). Klanglich bedient er sich dabei sowohl der Ästhetik
der synthetischen 80er als auch bei elektronischen Größen der
Gegenwart (SOHN, Moderat, James Blake) und erschafft daraus ein
eigenständiges und emotionales Popgebilde.

schaut dabei auf eine langjährige Erfahrung mit Bands wie PVC, The

HAZE’EVOT (SheWolf) is a rock band and independent female collective based in
Israel, Consists of Yifat Balssiano (Guitar/Vocals), Talia Ishai (Bass), Or
Zigelbaum (Guitar), Hen Yair (Drums), Nofar Tom (Synthesizer, guitar).

For the last decade the band has worked as an independent group, producing
content together, from recording music to creating its own video clips.

The band deals with subjects such as the struggle between genders, human
relationships and existential issues facing our generation. With authenticity
and power, the band is known for its wild and energetic live shows. Together on
stage the band members bring a different perspective, a punch to the stomach,
and a celebration of distortion and energy.

After releasing two mini albums over the years, the band members moved in
together to an apartment in Tel Aviv, to work on their first full album.
Following a process of investigating new sounds and writing their collective
story as a group, the band released its first full album in February 2020. The
album brings together styles such as Rock, Punk, and Disco.

Nowadays the band is working on its next album which is expected to be released
in the upcoming year.

Ruth Mac is a slacker rock artist from Galway, Ireland now based in Berlin. With
a sound described as “idiosyncratic soul-infused indie”, Mac’s music ties an
engaging simplicity with thoughtful, off-kilter lyricism exploring the big
themes through small details. Following the release of her debut EP, released in
2021 on Beth Shalom Records, Mac has been gigging consistently, notable dates
include showcasing at Ireland Music Week 2023 and support slots for Hot Chip,
The Big Moon and Ye Vagabonds. In Winter 2023, Mac embarks on an EU tour through
Germany, the Netherlands, and finishing with two Irish dates in December 2023.

Mac’s music has been praised by Nialler9, Paste Magazine, HotPress, The Last
Mixed Tape, and Golden Plec. Her latest single ‘Home From Home’, which explores
her evolving relationship with home, was released in October 2023, featured on
RTE Radio 1, 2XM, Dublin City FM, Cork 96FM and Galway Bay FM’s TOTW.

Tamara van Esch

Indietronica-pop with a calm voice and an extraordinary use of instruments; with
influences such as My Brightest Diamond and Blur. Previously Tamara van Esch
released three well received records under the name Mevrouw Tamara, with shows
at Dutch national TV and radio shows, at a great number of main venues in the
Netherlands and in England and Italy. Her most recent record Tussen Lagen
(double meaning: In between layers / Layers in between) was released as Tamara
van Esch with a release tour in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Cyprus and
Japan. With this record she gives voice to unknown stories that are hopeful,
inspired by interviews with psychologically vulnerable people, for which lyrics
and artwork were created with them. Music was written with artists from
different genres, which resulted in a colourful and dynamic sound.

First Berlin Gig In Full Band Line Up
Detmold. Not exactly a metropolis. However, there was in this idyllic small town
an underground, a subcultural scene whereas until this day opera, theater,
classical museums and mainstream events are on the agenda. In addition to some
indie, punk and hardcore bands were The Home Of The Hitman, a band influenced by
the British new wave and gothic rock around guitarist and songwriter Christ-Ian.
That was in the 90s when the gothic wave was on its peak before it subsided with
the end of the great bands of the genre by the end of that decade. Two albums
and many concerts did the band and became an important part of the local
underground scene before they split up in 1999.
After years of musical abstinence Christ-Ian 2010 reached back to the guitar and
for the first time to the microphone, recorded some demos and felt that the time
had come to return. He had not forgotten his roots, so with Steve Leafs on drums
and Caveman (until 2018) on bass-guitar salvation AMP was founded. New wave,
alternative rock, classic guitar rock with dark undertones are the foundation of
the band. This manifested itself in 2012 with the release of the first album
"hidden faces".
Since today the subcultural scene has been displaced, commercialized or does
simply no longer exist, it is difficult to find organizers and clubs, to play
concerts. Yet salvation AMP - now known as LEDING (full band lineup) have played
numerous, partly complete self-organized concerts to far beyond the region and
look forward to a growing fan base, that doesn´t hesitate to travel far
distances in order to see the band live.
The concerts are played with a passion and dedication that can only be found
rarely in this form and has thus become a hallmark of the band. Has much changed
in the genre to fun events or half-playback shows, so here is a real live
experience full of dynamic and rough elegance. Although set up only as a trio,
the band takes the listener into a sea full of spherical guitars, in which the
bass-guitar and the drums are found secure and solid as a rock and above it
Christ-Ian's harsh and clear voice, full of drama and pure energy. In spring
2019 Thomas Simon joined as the new man playing bass guitar in the live shows.

Atmospheric Wave Rock band HALION STATE was formed in November 2019 by Dan
Robertson, who's also active in the Berlin underground bands Rozalia Muzzle
(since 2012) and An:idea (since 2016). HALION STATE is a band project working
with different singers and guest musicians. Among them are Klarina Tourette
(Rozalia Muzzle & An:idea), Joerg Kleudgen (The House Of Usher), Carsten CK, Mat
Rhein.

A Deer A Horse from Brooklyn / New York City crossed our path and we as well as
many people who saw them on stage, felt in love...
If you don't know where to put them in, just look for the gaps between bands
like Melvins, Red Fang or L7. But with more hipnotic headbanging moments, a
little more punk with a lot of raw energy and a lot more groove where you
wouldn't expect it.
This 4-piece band pushes you in the face with their bass runs, heavy fuzz
guitars and plaintive as well as nihilistic lyrics with a sometimes grim stoner
attitude through a mix of doom-rock and a touch of sludge-metal. And yes,
massive bass sounds by Angela Phillips will take you on a hipnotic headbanger
trip...

After a few EP's their debut album "Grind" was released end of 2021 , produced
by the band as well as Jamie Uertz (Gojira, Anthrax), recorded by Sylvia Massy
(Tool, System of a Down), with additional mixing by Johann Meyer (Gojira).

Founded in Santiago de Chile and based in Berlin, the band combines elements of
pop and rock with punk and Latin American folk chords. Originally founded by
singer and songwriter Yanara, the band displays its full power on stage as a
full four-woman line-up. Their songs are mostly in Spanish - the common language
of the band members - and deal with migration, loss, dreams and nightmares.
Following their debut album „Umbral‘‘ in 2019, the band is currently working on
new material. In April 2022, they release as single Amor craquelado (Sultan
discos - Chibi Records), a song that is part of the new repertoire that can be
heard live in Berlin and other cities in Europe.

Poet and performer Hinemoana Baker traces her Māori ancestry from tribes in both
the North and South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. Her poetry collections,
original music albums and other sonic and written work have seen her on stages
and pages in many countries around world for the last 20 years. Reviewers have
embraced her work since she began writing and publishing in the mid-1990s. One
commentator says: ‚Hinemoana Baker...explores transient spaces, [both] physical
and psychological, with a sharp, enigmatic humour and deep warmth.‘ (95bFM). Her
most recent collection, ‚Funkhaus‘, has just been released as a bilingual
edition (English/German, Ulrike Almut Sandig tr.) by Voland & Quist | AZUR
Edition in Berlin.

NAVA CALMA (fka: Cora Line) was born out of a desire for symbiosis. For
connection. From the very beginning as a solo project of a young musician
looking for meaning, its intent was to connect the sonic dots of its creator’s
identity to form something that’s more than the sum of its parts.

Now acting as a full band the four-piece from Berlin, Germany channel their
innermost connection to the world around them through weeping melodies perched
on top of shoegazey pads and soundscapes which are then delivered with an
explosive and manic urgency and relentless drums. Their sound nests within the
realms of Post-Rock, Shoegaze, Post-Metal and the ever so ambiguous term
“dreamo”.

Their first full length album „The Full Weight Of Everything“ shows the dynamic
range the band is capable of. A gentle hum that lulls you in is paired with
gravity defying blankets of sound and piercing lead lines. One second it’s loud,
hectic and cathartic. Then it’s quiet, embracing and delicate.

An unexpected, daring genre-shift away from the project’s glitch/breakbeat
beginnings travelling further back to the start of the members‘ musical origins.
Guitar music. A change that was equally scary and freeing.
Vocalist Hannah Louve Benedum speaks about what it means to be a human
surrounded by other humans. How we relate to each other. How the smallest action
can have the biggest impact and begs the question how one might find a place in
this world full of endless stimuli and sounds so rich they turn into white
noise.

Berlin and Dresden trio JAGUWAR played their way into the hearts of noise
romantics with the sprawling sonic landscapes which characterized the trio’s
2018 debut album Ringthing. Oyèmi, Lemmy and Chris subsequently embarked on a
phase of intense touring before returning to the studio to create their
sophomore album GOLD, set for release in October 2021.

GOLD is a supercharged blast of future pop, transcending borders and defying
pigeonholes, an album arising from the band’s predisposition to experiment. GOLD
is not only danceable, poppy and endearingly intricate, it also flys in the face
of the status quo, ask questions of the current state of affairs and the
oppressive mechanisms in our society. GOLD is no blunt denunciation, however,
but a soundtrack to accompany the realization that there is strength in
individuality, thereby unlocking a new level of productiveness.

Diverting melodies coalesce with a familiarly vociferous wall of sound to create
an atmosphere which galvanizes the band’s pursuit of freedom. Thanks to a
seemingly limitless arsenal of effect devices and a sizeable stack of
amplifiers, JAGUWAR create a wealth of elegant soundscapes. Shimmering tonal
fragments infiltrate layer upon layer of aural strata, leading into catchy indie
pop hooks which prelude an epic storm of thunderous guitars. Oyèmi and Lemmy

Frankie Stubbs war Frontmann, Singer-Songwriter und Gitarrist der legendären
Sunderland-Band Leatherface. Leatherface gilt uneingeschränkt als eine der
einflussreichsten Punkrock-Bands weltweit und als maßgeblicher Einfluss von
Bands wie Hot Water Music. Mit Stubbs' unverwechselbarer, rauer und melodischer
Stimme wurden sie vom Guardian als „die größte britische Punkband der Neuzeit“
beschrieben und nicht zu Unrecht wird ihr 1991 erschienenes Album „Mush“
allgemein als eines der Besten Punk-Alben überhaupt bezeichnet. Bekannt als
einer der letzten Dichter des Punkrocks hat er schon lange vor der
„Singer-Songwriter-Welle“ Akustik-Solo-Platten veröffentlicht und an zig
Produktionen mitgewirkt. Seit einigen Jahren tritt Frankie Stubbs in intensiven
und intimen akustischen Rahmen auch solo auf und spielt sich durch seinen fast
40jährigen musikalischen Backkatalog. Neben den Songs seiner Soloalben, gibt er
dabei natürlich auch die großartigen Songs von Leatherface, sowie den ein oder
anderen Coversong zum Besten.

Berliner Schokoladen ein Programm aus neuen Texten und Songs. Gegründet 1996
besteht LSD heute aus den Mitgliedern Andreas „Spider“ Krenzke, Tobias „Tube“
Herre, Uli Hannemann, Eva Mirasol und Ivo Lotion. Alle 5 genannten Künstler sind
als Autoren und Musiker auch in anderen Bereichen aktiv.

With Soft Crystal's first EP being released back in 2019, the band were busy
touring Germany and the UK, playing with bands like Holy Waves, Vacations,
Papooz, Twerps and Ocean Alley. The pandemic hit and the band didn't play a show
for years. During that time, bass player Steve Morris started a family and
decided to take a step back for a while. That's when close friend and
musician/artist Thomas Thores Hyman joined the band on bass. The band will be
performing songs from their EP and some new ones that Matt has written during
the long break.
The band's next single 'Afterthought' will be released on February 16th, 2024.

unsere Lebenserfahrungen, den Prozess der Transformation und Akzeptanz. BYDS
sind ein multikulturelles Paar, machen seid 20 Jahren Musik und streben einen

Parisian quintet EN ATTENDANT ANA have dazzled since day one. From the muted
strains of their 2016 EP “Songs From The Cave”, to the assured 2018 TiM debut
“Lost & Found”, to the sparkling refrains of “Juillet”; released just before the
world collapsed around us, and which stood as the band’s rebirth and purest
statement of their music ambitions - until now. “Principia” is the band’s third
album and is without a doubt their best yet.

Bandleader & principal songwriter Margaux Bouchaudon’s voice anchors many of the
songs on “Principia”, her crystalline delivery ringing out like a bell as the
band swoons & sways beneath her. The songs on “Principia” were composed from a
place of confusion about the state of the world and her place in it, looking
outward and inward for answers. They question our perception of others, the one
they have of us and finally the one we have of ourselves in a society where the
individual is king and the group is forgotten. Guitarist Max Tomasso - newly
joined just before the recording of “Juillet”- feels more “moved-in” on these
tunes, his sly guitar-work gliding effortlessly through. No showboating - only
prickling at the precise moment necessary in suit of the song itself. New member
Vincent Hivert (their touring sound man, Hivert joined the group just as touring
was underway for “Juillet”, replacing founding member Antoine Vaugelade)’s
bass-work is rubbery & flexible, bouncing around and thru the melodies on a
rhythmic sugar-high, practically urging on drummer Adrien Pollin’s metronomic
swing. The band’s secret weapon, multi-instrumentalist Camille Frechou’s trumpet
& saxophone are more present & considered in the arrangements, adding a new
layer of sophistication to the group’s already debonair indie pop. Her beatific
harmonies add a yearning to Bouchaudon’s lilting phrases; sometimes uplifting,
other times melancholic. Bouchaudon says “One of the most important points we
tried to focus on was the place given to each instrument. For the first time, we
withdrew parts, we were careful not to play everyone at once and I think that
the result is a much lighter album in which every musician has a specific place
and moment”.

But this album is also the first one to have been shaped entirely by the band,
from the conception to the production. The meeting of Vincent Hivert and Margaux
Bouchaudon gave birth to a duet in which the technical and artistic aspects were
intertwined from the very beginning of the conception of “Principia”. Apart from
reshaping En Attendant Ana’s dynamic, Vincent Hivert was able to think as a
musician and producer as soon as they started working on Margaux Bouchaudon’s
demos which brought a new dimension to their music. The two of them recorded and
mixed the album together reuniting their references and artistic goals.

“Principia” is a great step forward without sacrificing the things that make the
band unique. The nods to French pop (both current & classic) still permeate the
proceedings, and the group’s penchant for Anglo-Saxon indie pop from The
Nineties (think Electrelane, Stereolab, American Analog Set) still rings out,
but there’s an air of - dare we say - maturity in “Principia”s twelve songs. The
group always felt a little ‘out-of’ and ‘ahead-of’ its time, but tunes like
“Wonder” “The Cutoff” and “Same Old Story” are cinematic and romantic, and
absolutely feel like the next great phase of an already great band.

MELENAS are a garage fuzz pop reverbcore group from Pamplona, Spain who will
make fans of The Feelies, Stereolab and classic C86 jangle pop fall for their
shimmering guitars, sweet melodies and driving rhythms. They also add a touch of
sun-kissed, soft focus psych to their sound. Brilliant melodies, fresh bass
lines, acid keys and a Lindy Morrison drum style are adorned with fuzz and
phasers and surrounded with heavenly vocal harmonies.
After having toured their two first albums (released via US label Trouble In
Mind) worldwide with shows at Primavera Sound, SXSW (twice), Eurosonic,
Benicassim, all over the UK and France and even at the New York Fashion Week
(where they performed at the Ulla Johnson runway), in 2021 they won the MME
Awards at the Eurosonic festival, a prize that has been previously won by
Rosalia, Hinds, Fontaines DC or Dua Lipa.
In 2021 they released their celebrated cover version of the classic tune Eisbaer
by Grauzone, and 2023 sees them full of energy, about to release their much
awaited third album, Ahora, out in the fall via Trouble In Mind Records and
Mushroom Pillow.

Finnish avant garde, noise-rock two piece NYOS return with their sixth
full-length release: ‘Waterfall Cave Fantasy, Forever’. Combining the mutant
funk-punk looping of Battles and Tortoise with a cinematic wall of sound akin to
that of post-rock titans Russian Circles, NYOS continue to contrast their
outstanding compositional complexity with live improvisations. First explored on
the 2022 LP ‘Celebration’, this newfound call and response creative freedom on
‘Waterfall Cave Fantasy, Forever’ sees NYOS reach new heights of playful chaos
and uninhibited, soaring joy.

NYOS came to be when, in 2012, guitarist Tom Brooke took the plunge and left his
hometown of Leeds in the UK for Finland, with dreams of establishing his own
recording studio, Tonehaven, which now doubles up as the band’s HQ. Before long,
Tom crossed paths with drummer Tuomas Kainulainen who, having cut his teeth in
the local punk scene, was ready to start something new. The connection was
instant, with the duo establishing their distinctive, restless blend of
math-rock, free jazz and harsh noise and writing their debut release, 2015’s
six-part single ‘Vltava’, within their first few practices.

The band haven’t stopped since then either, from releasing six full-length
albums and dozens of singles to playing hundreds of shows around the world with
international contemporaries including Zeal & Ardor, Esben & The Witch and The
Comet Is Coming. With almost a decade of ceaseless creativity under their belts,
the band’s forthcoming album finds NYOS exploring their unique dynamic as a duo;
using crushing sawtooth distortion, delicate cymbal work and a powerful use of
space to capture the immediacy and intimacy of their live shows to spectacular
effect.

Already renowned for their inimitable control over layers of looped guitars and
polyrhythmic percussion, ‘Waterfall Cave Fantasy, Forever’ sees Brooke and
Kainulainen contrast their formidable precision with the chaotic potential of
free-jazz inspired, call and response improvisation. Not only is this one-take
compositional approach further testament to the astounding musical bond the
friends share, it represents an exciting new chapter in NYOS’ sonic evolution
that can be felt on this record as much as it can be heard.

Am 5. April 2024 jährt sich der Todestag von KURT COBAIN zum dreißigsten Mal.
Über mehrere Jahrzehnte lang war es für die deutschen Medien - jenseits unserer
eigenen popjournalistischen Texte of course 😊- kein Thema von besonderem
Interesse, dass der NIRVANA-Sänger ausgesprochener Feminist war. Überhaupt war
die Musik und das Handeln der Band Nirvana feministisch geprägt. Zum Glück haben
sich diese Zeiten geändert und ein neuer Blickwinkel auf die queeren Seiten von
Kurt Cobain kann nun auch hierzulande gedacht werden.

LESUNG:

Davon zeugt das tolle neue Buch: „Nirvana. 100 Seiten“ (Reclam) von ISABELLA
CALDART. (VÖ: 20.03.24). Neben der klassischen Bio gibt es drei Essays, in
denen die Autorin Cobains queere Seite, sein Verhältnis zu den Medien und
„Nirvana & die Politik“ behandelt.

Wir freuen uns sehr, dass Isabella Caldart (freie Journalistin u.a. für taz,
Missy Magazine, nd, 54books und Deutschlandfunk Kultur) zum Auftakt unserer 22.

MUSIK:

Und auch unser MUSIK-Programm ist voller Nevertheless und Nature-Momente:

IBADET RAMADANI spielt zeitlose, ruhige und im besten Sinne unformatierte (Pop-)
Musik. Zehn Jahre nach dem Ende ihrer Indiepop-Band SUPER700 nahm Ibadet
Ramadani ihre Gitarre mit in den Wald und versuchte herauszufinden, ob auf dem
Nährboden ihres Lebens noch einmal Musik gedeihen könnte – und wenn ja, welche.
Und plötzlich war sie von Liedern umgeben. Sorgsam instrumentierte Lieder, die
von Abschieden handeln, von Liebe, Hoffnung und Schmerz. Musikalisch hat der
Produzent MARTIN GALLOP diese Geschichten voller kleiner und großer Wunder in
einen erdfarbenen Umhang gehüllt, der aus zarten Americana-Fäden gewirkt ist. Je
nach Lichteinfall scheinen mal Folk, mal Country auf, Streicher, Hammond und
Bläser zieren das Werk, ein bottleneck huscht am Gitarrenhals entlang. Über
allem der wunderbar klare und wohltuende Gesang von Ibadet Ramadani. Die
Presse war begeistert als das selbstbetitelte Album im Winter 2023 erschien. Es
war z.B. „Album der Woche“ bei radio eins. Und die Frankfurter Rundschau etwa
hob die „bemerkenswerte lyrische Qualität“ der Songtexte hervor.

Bei „Ich brauche eine Genie“ wird Ibadet Ramadani gemeinsam mit Martin Gallop
Songs aus dem Album performen.

Nicht minder somnambul, entrückt – und von Presse & Pulikum gefeiert: das just
erschienene neue Werk „In anderem Licht“ von BARBARA MORGENSTERN. Das
kammermusikalische Doppel-Album erzählt von der drohenden Klima-Katastrophe, der
Hoffnung auf gesellschaftliche Transformations-Prozesse und einer möglichen
Befreiung aus dem Zustand der allgemeinen Paralyse. Seit über 20 Jahren gehört
Barbara Morgenstern zu den eigenständigen Musiker:innen hierzulande. Von der
Berliner Wohnzimmer-Szene der 90er Jahre bis zu den preisgekrönten
Theater-Produktionen mit Rimini-Protokoll der letzten Jahre, folgt sie stets
ihrer inneren Stimme im ungebrochenen Glauben an die Magie der Musik: John Cale,
Björk, Mark Hollis, Hans Unstern oder Robert Wyatt kommen einem beim Hören als
mögliche Seelenverwandte in den Sinn: Eine gewisse Kauzigkeit, gepaart mit einer
großer Virtuosität und einem Faible für einen gewissen Minimalismus, der aber
immer gerne auch groß und episch werden darf. Für den Moment. Nevertheless, the

BERNAR GOMMA ---> visual artist, musician and composer from Rio de Janeiro, has
15 years of experience producing records and with more than 1,000 shows
throughout Brazil. As a visual artist, he has 3 individual exhibitions with his
“Geometric Dimensional” series, he is also part of the study group “Antiformas
de Intervenção” under the supervision of visual artist David Cury at EAV in
Parque Lage. He was selected and included in the Museum Exhibition (curated by
São Paulo), his art was also displayed on the gable of a building in Belém in
the Mostra sua Arte (videomapping), and several publications in magazines and
blogs such as Revista Bravo!, Revista Traços, among others.

In 2023, he decided to unite his visual art and his music in a Super Sensory
Experience. He set up a guitar show with beats from his authorial compositions
and a projection based on his arts. Thus creating a multi-sensory one-man-band
format for his presentations. Bernar Gomma and the Super Sensory Experience is a
strong dose of psychedelia with artistic-contemporary abstraction. While he
already performs in concert format, he works obsessively on the production of
his first studio album.

Session-Gedanke ist immer noch lebendig: Die Bandmitglieder und Gäste bringen

sorgen damit immer wieder für überraschende Kicks.

From the funk-pop guitars in “We Look Good Together” through to the baroque
strings in “Flex” or even the country-tinged stylings of “Babys”, it would be an
understatement to call “New Last Name” adventurous. That’s all before you even
come onto the drum and bass drumming of the vibrant and vital “Happy Endings”.

Going on to speak about the album, Murphy O’Neill says, “I’ll admit that New
Last Name isn’t really a play. Whilst it IS tied together by a narrative thread
– it’s actually a collection of our most contained pop songs, and strangest
experiments sat side by side.

New Last Name is unrestrained and chaotic. At the same time, it is more focused
and detail-oriented than anything we’ve done before. New Last Name is a study in
contradictions, and it’s the best damn play south of the north pole.”

That play goes on the road next year, with the band also having announced a new
run of EU / UK tour dates to take place in Spring next year. Having cemented
themselves as a must-see live act, Courting recently toured as main support for
Circa Waves. The band also toured “Guitar Music” extensively last Autumn as well
as performing at multiple summer festivals including Reading & Leeds Festival,

Fiery, raw, and raucous, four-piece garage rockers, Baby Jesus, are keeping rock
and roll alive and well in their hometown of Halmstad, Sweden, with psychedelic
ﬂare, a punk edge, and enough energy to heat up a hearty dinner of Sjömansbiﬀ
for 12.
Founding members and long time friends. Fredrik Kristoﬀersson (guitar/vox) and
Elis Jäghammar (bass/vox), spent a few years together in various metal and
hardcore punk projects.
It wasn't until they both moved to Oslo, Norway, in 2011 that they discovered
and became infatuated with the 13th Floor Elevators— a legendary mid-sixties
rock act from Austin, Texas largely credited with coining the phrase
“psychedelic rock.” The Elevators’ music hit Elis and Fredrik like a rock. That
experience opened their ears and writing sensibilities to the music of Night
Beats, Black Lips, a range of Back From the Grave compilations, and—funny
enough—Pugh Rogerfeldt, Träd, gräs och stenar, Philemon Arthur & The dung, and
other great Swedish talents who made the rounds on their country’s turntables in
the late sixties and early seventies with their wild and often experimental
amalgamations of rock, psych, folk, and country music.
2023 comes with new offerings i the form of the album simply titled "Rock n Roll
Music" (for why lie when it's true). The album is filed with Rolling
Stones-esque songs with lots of things going on in the background. There’s a
neat rhythm guitar, fuzz and a solo that’s slippin’ and slidin’ all over the
place. A rock n roll piece that inevitably will become a standard on every
single god damned young rock ’n’ roll bands setlist in the future.

LUFT (BERLIN)
LUFT is a band, primarily British and based in Berlin. Formed in 2023 by Tom
Dougall of Toy and various other members of the London music SCENE, they draw
inspiration from British eccentrics, pagan holidays, the bed, Nico & Lou & John
and 50p in the jukebox – ethereal and ready to DISH OUT. Catch them soon at a

Podcasts "Funkloch embedded".

Seit nunmehr fünf Jahren telefonieren die zwei Typen und quatschen über
Musikerlivestyle, Do's and Dont's im Backstage, auf nächtlichen
Raststättenstopps mit dem Tourbus und very international Flughafenleben. Die
erlauchte Hörerschaft dieser bereits fünfjährigen exquisiten Audioreise ist nun

Jolie Holland (born September 11, 1976 at Houston, Texas) is an American singer
and performer who combines elements of folk, traditional country, jazz, and
blues.

Over the span of her career, Jolie Holland has knotted together a century of
American song—jazz, blues, soul, rock and roll—into some stew that is impossible
to categorize with any conventional critical terminology. This is her burden and
her gift, to know all of these American songs of the last ten decades in her
head and her heart, and to have to wrestle with their legacy. She dives straight
to the pathos of a song the way the very greatest singers, singers like Mavis
Staples, or Al Green, or Skip James, or Tom Waits do. Upon first encounter her
songs seem challenging, perhaps unsettling at times, but as so many poets and
rockers have shown us (from Dante Alighieri to William Blake to Sylvia Plath to
Patti Smith to Nick Cave to Mark E. Smith) that’s where the beauty lies. As
evident on her first recordings, Holland apparently has no fear of the truth,
and there is no emotional core that she cannot reach in song. In fact she
thrives on the red hot center of a musical composition, in all its strange and
brutal detail.

This fall, Jolie Holland will unveil her latest album, ‘Haunted Mountain’;
intricately connected with friend and collaborator Buck Meek’s record of the
same name, ‘Haunted Mountain’ features five songs co-written by the pair,
including the mesmerizing title track. Holland explains:

“I wrote the song a couple years ago, and it existed as two verses for many
months. Buck added a third verse, and then we both began performing it with our
bands. When he told me he was including our song on his next record, I was
extremely pleased at the weirdness – I was going to release a version as well.
Then he told me he wanted to name his record Haunted Mountain, “…only if you’re
not already naming your record Haunted Mountain.” Well, that had been the name
of my next record for quite a while. We thought about it for a minute and
decided it was bizarre and wonderful. Buck’s Haunted Mountain is out in late
August. My Haunted Mountain comes out in the autumn. I love how the image of a
haunted mountain is so open ended. I love how fun it is to say. I am enormously
pleased that Buck chose it as his album name too.”

The nine-track stunner delves into a treasure trove of themes, from
anti-colonial thought to homelessness, all while exploring the profound
significance of being in reciprocity with nature. “When the world is sacred, we
are moved to protect it,” Holland explains. “Elves stop highways in Iceland.
Faeries save forests in Ireland. Even though the numinous is beyond reason, it’s
a motivating, communicative idea. You can tell it to a kid, and when the kid
grows up they might understand it ecologically, or they might understand it
aesthetically. The numinous is a huge idea,” she continues. “An old friend of
mine saw the Jordan River at a place in Palestine where it was just a little
creek. His description opened up this realization to me: every river is sacred
to someone. Every inch of Earth is someone’s storied, sung homelands. No one
needs to understand this more than settler Americans.”

Working closely with her talented collaborators, Adam Brisbin and Justin Veloso,
Jolie recorded the core of the album as a trio before adding layers of
intriguing overdubs. Ever the innovator, she employed some unconventional
recording techniques, like capturing the sound of knuckles rapping on the piano
and incorporating the sounds of cicadas in album closer “What It’s Worth”. The
intriguing atmosphere of “Feet On The Ground” was created by running a drum
machine through an amp into a vast barn, every sonic experiment a testament to
her willingness to push the boundaries of her art.
‘Haunted Mountain’ is a triumph of boundless creativity, profound lyricism, and
thought-provoking artistry. With poetic storytelling awash in a dream-like sonic
palette, Holland invites audiences on an alluring journey that transcends genres

Mark McCausland is an Irish songwriter/producer/musician, best known for his
work as one half of The Lost Brothers. He also collaborates with a variety of
artists and produces his own records under the name McKowski. He currently works
from his home studio in Omagh, the town that he’s been trying to escape since
birth.

Toronto troubadour Chris A. Cummings (MARKER STARLING, formerly Mantler) has
been
playing Melancholy Party Jams since 1999. A solo performer for many years, his
preferred weapons were a Wurltizer electric piano and an early pre-programmed
drum
machine. More recently he has been supported by a Toronto-based band consisting
of
Dorothea Paas (vocals, guitar) Jay Anderson (drums), Matt McLaren (bass) and
Andy
Scott (guitar and keyboards).

Cummings has in the past collaborated with the German band Von Spar,
contributing
vocals and lyrics to their albums STREETLIFE (Italic, 2014) and UNDER PRESSURE
(Bureau B, 2019). His song “Deep Background” was recorded by Stereolab’s
Laetitia
Sadier for her Source Ensemble record FIND ME FINDING YOU (Drag City, 2017). His
2010 song "In Stride" was included in DJ Koze's DJ-Kicks compilation on !K7
Records in
2015. He has opened for Stereolab, The Books, Destroyer, Yo La Tengo, Gary
Wilson and
Sandro Perri, and also plays in the bands Matias, Hank and The Canadian
Romantic.

Our earliest exposures to music can often be the most formative. For
Toronto-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist ELIZA NIEMI, that influence
came from her Dad who taught her the basics of bass and guitar at home. These
childhood experiences of playing music together by ear fostered the sense of
playfulness that she’s approached her craft with ever since. They also instilled
an ethic in her creative work that prioritizes making music with friends and
loved ones.

Those honed guitar —and later piano, cello and vocal— skills make Eliza an ideal
collaborator: starting in Halifax’s rich music scene with the mid-2010s
experimental pop groups New Love Underground and Mauno, and later in her role
supporting artists Le Ren, Quaker Parents and Evan J. Cartwright. Through the
rhythms of touring and the brilliant spark that's shared in musical exchange,
Eliza found and developed connections across Canada's DIY music communities.
These collaborative moments fuel her creative practice, whether playing solo, in
an ensemble or releasing others’ music as the founder of her own label, Vain
Mina Records.

Connection and collaboration lives in the intimacy of her albums, starting with
2019’s Vinegar, an understated set of songs for cello, keyboard and voice that
wander with a comforting grace. 2020’s Glass furthered Eliza’s reputation for
writing songs that are boundless and experimental without ever being alienating.
There’s an open, inviting quality throughout the record, apparent from the
close-miked instruments, to her softly sung and affable lyrics that unfold like
a conversation with a good friend.

Her latest album, Staying Mellow Blows, furthers these ideas and aesthetics to a
staggering degree, retaining the candor, humor and emotional humility she’s
known for, while letting the vast number of supporting musicians shape each song
with their own emotionally resonant performances. The result feels whimsical and
inspired, and is the sound of an artist flourishing.

the west coast of Bergen, Norway.
Their first record “Here Goes Nothing” has been played extensively on radio

international show at the legendary Garage festival "The Wild Weekend" in
Mallorca, followed up by a Germany tour including a show at "Berlin Beat
Invasion" Underground festival.
They are coming back to Germany to promote their second album, “Utterly
Useless”, which will be released this spring.

Listening to THE OTHER PLACE is like making a journey into a strange land,
familiar and yet peculiar at the same time. Like many of their predecessors from
the sixties, the band is attempting to build something else from its love for
Rock’n’Roll and Rhythm’n’Blues.
THE OTHER PLACE draw inspiration from the kind of music that you could hear in
an old shack of Louisiana, a sweaty cave in Liverpool, a garage in the suburbs

Working at a mixing board one night, a catchphrase popped into Greg Obis’ head:
“freak frequency.” He was ringing out feedback during his job as a sound
engineer, and started to picture the parallels between acoustic physics and
political trends. “If you think about a waveform, as the frequency rises, the
space between the sine waves gets less and less,” Obis explains. “With that
downward trend comes constant heightening, stress and tension.” He came to see
freak frequency as an apt metaphor for the decline of Western empire, an inverse
relationship between the (positive) deterioration of American hegemony and the
(negative) worsening of daily life under that fall. It was a fitting title for
the new material Obis was planning for Stuck, the frenetic and twisted post-punk
outfit he formed in 2018. Inspired by the doomy social economics of Mark
Fisher’s Capitalist Realism, the bleak worldbuilding of horror games Demon’s
Souls and Bloodborne, and the bombastic yet arty satire of Devo, Obis channeled
his audio analogy into Freak Frequency, an album ringing out with explosive
sounds and ideas. Though its songs tackle the violence of wealth, the nightmares
of technocracy, and the rise of the conspiratorial layman, Freak Frequency is
Stuck’s quirkiest record to date—compositionally challenging and equipped with
menace, yet dotted with vibrant fun. “Being in a brooding post-punk band isn’t
that appealing to me,” jokes Obis. “When things are bad, all you can really do
is laugh.”

Stuck formed after Obis’ previous projects, Yeesh and Clearance, called it quits
in short proximity. Obis is on guitar and vocals, which span from booming
theatrics to ecstatic yelps. The project’s rhythm section is completed by
shoegaze guitarist-turned-chugging bassist David Algrim and tightly wound
drummer Tim Green—also a graphic designer, and the artist responsible for
Stuck’s distinctively unified visual aesthetic. Original co-guitarist Donny
Walsh contributed freely inventive lines for the first few years of the project,
including on Freak Frequency; Ezra Saulnier of Red Tunic, the newest member of
the band, now brings calculated contrapuntal riffs to match Obis’ parts. The
building blocks of Stuck include the egg punk eccentricities of Uranium Club and
The Coneheads filtered through noise rock power, à la Jesus Lizard or Slint;
that melange is glittered with the precision microtones of Unwound and Women. “I
want the feeling of immersion and chaos and tension, with a big guitar amp
playing a big chord,” says Obis of his inspirations, citing friends and peers
Cloud Nothings and Preoccupations. “But I want it delivered by having a lot of
smaller points of light poking through.”

At first, the new project had meager goals—it would be an excuse to open for
friends’ bands when they toured through Chicago. 2020 debut Change Is Bad was
released by Born Yesterday, the beloved Chicago indie co-run by Obis and
Deeper’s Kevin Fairbairn. It was recorded at Jamdek Studio, and though it earned
Stuck national press and tours with kindred post-rockers Pile and Blessed, Obis
claims his band’s ambitions were low. “It’s a real meat-and-potatoes post-punk
record,” he says. Content That Makes You Feel Good, a followup EP that saw Obis
move into the role of recording engineer, introduced new textures, including
ornamental synths; it was released in 2021 on Brooklyn’s Exploding in Sound. “We
tried to be more ambitious with production on the EP, and Freak Frequency is a
continuation of that,” Obis notes.

In fact, writing for Freak Frequency began while Content’s recording was still
underway—beginning with “Scared,” which features acoustic layers under feedback
squalls. “Time Out,” with motoric guitars in the sputtering lineage of Wire, was
also composed in late 2019. Obis wrote it about the cycles of compulsion and
shame woven into social media use, and the way negativity drives algorithmic
engagement. It became an exciting exercise for the group in ramping up speed; “I
thought I knew how far I could push Tim’s tempos,” Obis recalls. “But Tim kept
insisting we do it 20 bpm faster than what I had. He is an absolute monster for
playing that.” Album opener “The Punisher,” a spiral staircase of disembodied
guitars and rhythmic slams over a 2/4 beat, came in the aftermath of the January
6 insurrection. It felt immediately emblematic to Freak Frequency, and Obis
describes it as his favorite Stuck track: one he wishes he could write again and
again. “It hits all the boxes that Stuck can do: it’s goofy, but there’s a lot
of intricate guitar interplay, and at the end, there’s a big payoff,” he
explains. The last song written was “Do Not Reply,” a pre-album single that came
to Obis after engineering for Melkbelly and channeling their earworm melodies.
Algrim wouldn’t let it on the record unless Melkbelly’s front person Miranda
Winters dueted on vocals; she was happy to oblige, and the gritty epic closes
Freak Frequency.

With Obis resuming engineering duties, recording took place over eleven days at
Chicago’s Palisade Studios. Additional flourishes included saxophone, with
skronky riffs provided by Sarah Clausen (Algrim’s bandmate in Gentle Heat), and
synthesizers, which Obis studied during the pandemic. Eventually, the songs were
handed off to mixer Graham Walsh, hired for his sure hand on Metz’s recordings.
“We wanted somebody who could take the tracks I recorded and fuck them up and
bring the life out of them,” explains Obis, who added final touches to Freak
Frequency at Chicago Mastering Service, where he dayjobs. Stuck has also
returned to Born Yesterday to release Freak Frequency. “I’m stoked to be in good
company with Landowner, Caution, Cafe Racer, and all our bands,” says Obis of
his roster.

With slippery snark, percussive heft, and funhouse mirrors of sludge, Freak
Frequency delivers its needed screeds with gratifying nuance. If Stuck’s
interpretation of this messed-up world goes down like a bitter pill, it’s only
because its sugar coating is too delicious to keep from eating.

Mote is an indie/postpunk trio from Berlin. Joe Schneider, originally from
Nashville in the US, moved his project to Berlin in 2020. Mote has been
releasing singles in partnership with the London based Indie Label, The Animal
Farm, since that time. The band members met in the spring of 2023 and began
playing together, finding that they had a very natural chemistry and drive.
Together they have been developing their high energy live show and working on
new music to be released later this year. The band is Joe Schneider (lead vocals
and bass), Josi Lukschy (guitar and vocals), and Lisa Kida (drums).

träumt so mancher Musikfan, der die wilden Geschichten aus dem London Ende der
70er Jahre kennt: Eine Band treffen, die du gleich bei ihrem ersten Auftritt
siehst und die sofort der Hammer ist. Und du wusstest das schon vom ersten Takt
an. Merkwürdigerweise klappt so etwas heute nur noch bei den
Popstars-Casting-Shows auf RTL 2 oder Pro 7 – und das ist ja eher lachhaft. Bei
den echten Punk- oder Ska-Combos wirst du so ein hohes, kreatives Potential
nicht mehr finden. Die SHOCKS sind keine zweiten SEX PISTOLS. Die BEATSTEAKS
keine CLASH. Die BUSTERS nicht MADNESS. Genauso wenig wie die MONOCHORDS an THE
JAM heranreichen. Dennoch gibt es solche Momente – zwar nicht im großen Stil,
dafür aber im kleinen, persönlichen Rahmen. Für mich sind das SOLITOS aus
Berlin. Eine großartige Ska-Combo, stilistisch ungefähr zwischen MOTHER’S PRIDE,
SLACKERS und BABYLON CIRCUS. Im Frühjahr war auch ihr erster Tonträger „Just
Arrived“ fertig , den sie in Eigenregie herausbrachten. Im Berliner
Thommy-Weißbecker-Haus traf ich mich mit Sänger Marius und Bassist Jan zum
ungezwungenen Plausch auf ein paar Biere an einem Donnerstag im Dezember 2003.

Wenn THE GROOVY CELLAR die Verstärker hochfahren, ist bald klar, wo es langgeht:
60s- goes-80s-Gitarrenpop mit Brit-Appeal. Melodien sind Trumpf, aber es darf
auch mal laut werden. Das Ganze ist unverkennbar Mod-infiziert, aber auch Leute
wie Francoise Hardy, Johnny Thunders oder die TVPs gehören zu den Vorbildern der
Musiker. Nach diversen Alben, EPs und Singles und nach Konzerten u.a. zusammen
mit den Fehlfarben, den Cleaners From Venus oder den Television Personalities
machen die Groovys nun Zwischenstopp im Schokoladen. Danach geht es entweder ins
UK zu den Freunden von „The New Fools“ aus Cambridge oder ins Studio. Oder
beides. Wer Indie-Gitarrenpop mag, ist hier richtig. Mit oder ohne Roller und
Fishtail-Parka.

Irgendwann hatten THE PLANETS keine Lust mehr auf ewigen Kälteschlaf im All und
docken nun deshalb im Schokoladen an mit ihrem Cosmic Trash Pop - einem zickigen
Amalgam aus New Wave, Garagenpop, Rock und Comic-Soul. Live und im Alarmmodus,
versprochen! In den 80ern und 90ern ging die Reise der Planets von Westberlin
(Cafe Swing, KOB, Quartier Latin...) über Rest-Deutschland, Schweiz,
Skandinavien, Spanien und UK bis nach Japan, wo die EMI ihnen den kosmischen
Roten Teppich ausrollte. Legendäre Zwischenstation dabei war u.a. das „Studio 2“
in der Abbey Road.Zum Erbe dieser Zeit gehören über ein Dutzend Ton- und
Bildträger unterschiedlichsten Formats. By the way, für Nina Hagen waren THE
PLANETS immer „die Wave-Band mit dem silbernen Ufo-Kaugummi“.

SKASSAPUNKA (SKAPUNK/ ITALIEN) + CRUOR HILLA (DEUTSCHER PUNK AUS BERLIN)

Skassapunka gründete sich Ende 2008 in Lainate in der Nähe von Mailand. Die Band
wurde schnell für ihre starken antifaschistischen und antirassistischen Aussagen
bekannt. 2013 veröffentlichte sie ihr erstes Album "Di Vento in Vento". 2014
unterschrieben sie bei dem Independent-Label Kob Records. 2015 entstand das
zweite Album "Il Gioco del Silenzio" unter Mitwirkung von Enrico von Los
Fastidios und Dema von Talco, gefolgt von einer ersten Europa-Tour. 2016 folgten
die Single "We Want to Dance to Ska" und eine weitere Tour. 2017 wurden die
Single "Bella Ciao" und das dritte Album "Rudes Against" veröffentlicht, und bei
einer erneute Europa-Tour spielte Skassapunka zusammen mit Bands wie Bad
Manners, The Prosecution und The Flatliners. 2018 feierte die Band ihr
zehnjähriges Jubiläum mit der neuen EP "Adelante" und der dazugehörigen
"Adelante-Tour". Im selben Jahr spielte sie mit einigen der bedeutendsten Größen
der italienischen wie internationalen Ska- und Punk-Szene, darunter The Locos,
The Real McKenzies, The Bombpops, Los Fastidios und The Sewer Rats. Im Mai 2019
begann die nächste Tour, benannt nach der Single "Paradox". Im November 2020
wurde das neue Album "Revolutionary Roots" von dem Label Maldito Records
veröffentlicht, gefolgt im Juli 2021 von der Single "United We Stand" und im
März 2022 von einer weiteren Single, dem Ska-Punk-Cover des bekannten irischen
Liedes "Foggy Dew". Bei letzterem Release war als Gast die italienische
Combat-Folk-Band Modena City Ramblers am Start. Im Dezember des selben Jahres
veröffentlichte Skassapunka "Dopolavoro", einen Two-Tone-Ska-Song von dem
neuesten Album "Al di là del Vostro Cielo", das seinerseits am 23. Juni 2023
herauskam.

LOTTALÄRM aus Berlin donnern mit ihrer Mischung aus deutschsprachigem Texten und
eingängigen Punkmelodien in die Musiklandschaft. Dynamischer female-fronted
Punkrock verschmilzt mit den melodischen Elementen der Neuen Deutschen Welle
unter Einflüssen aus Pop, Rock und Indie – geil! Die Bandmitglieder bringen eine
Vielfalt an Erfahrungen aus verschiedenen musikalischen Welten mit, die sich in
den eingängigen Riffs, krawalligen Drums und catchy Melodien von LOTTALÄRM
zusammenfinden.
Die Texte von LOTTALÄRM sind dabei ebenso vielschichtig wie die Musik selbst:
Von Songs, die einfach nur Spaß machen zu sozialkritischen Kommentaren bis hin
zu emotionalen Texten mit persönlichen Geschichten. Live bringen Carlotta
(Gesang), Jan (Gitarre), Miles (Bass) und Flavio (Schlagzeug) die Herzen aller
alten und jungen Punkmäuse zum Tanzen, Singen und Mitfühlen.

Man soll sich nicht zu viel versprechen. Viele gut funktionierende Mitglieder
unserer Gesellschaft tropfen vermutlich ab an diesen Liedern. Gleiten daran
herunter wie an ölverschmiertem, altem Blech und wenden sich erschrocken in eine
andere Richtung. Die Stücke von Tobias Werner sind brüchig, zähfließend,
irreführend, lose und manchmal verhundet oder verroht. Und sie sind liebevoll,
detailreich und mit Sorgfalt in Ort und Zeit gesetzt. Andere Menschen wiederum –
solche, die verwundet sind, verschorft oder vernarbt, verquollen, paralysiert
oder verirrt – betreten sie dagegen ganz leicht. Wie ein ofenwarmes Nachtasyl,
in dem Essen auf dem Tisch steht und eine Neonröhre flackert. Ähnlich wie bei
der Band Helga Blohm Dynastie, in der beide sonst spielen, geht es in dieser
Musik nicht darum, einem Publikum gefallen zu müssen. Es geht um Haltung und
Reinigung, um Selbsterkenntnis und Selbstverhexung. Es kann einem Publikum
gefallen. Und das ist der beste aller Fälle.

Nachdem die Band von 2008 – 2021 unter ihrem alten Namen “La Familia” aktiv war
und bereits durch mehr als 20 verschiedene Länder getourt ist, gründete sich
während der Pandemie eine rechtsoffene, Coronaleugner:innen Gruppierung und
bezog den gleichen Namen für sich. Mit einer dezidiert antifaschistischen
Haltung, wurde der 13 Jahre alte Bandname kurzer Hand und konsequent abgelegt.
Thematisch und musikalisch bewegen sich “Borgzinner” fernab von guter Laune und
Party-Ska. Es ist viel mehr Wut, Verzweiflung und das Empowern für den Kampf um
individuelle Identitäten und Grundeinstellungen, die bei durchschnittlich 220
BPM verarbeitet werden

For most of their life, Zzzahara has been looking backward. Raised in LA’s
Highland Park neighborhood, their debut album, Liminal Spaces, confronted the
changes the community has endured since Zzzahara’s childhood. That sense of
loss, coupled with the persistent memories of a painful coming-of-age, led to
many late night parties and an avoidant relationship with self-reflection.
Liminal Spaces chronicled that ache, but these days, Zzzahara isn’t looking
backward much – they’re not even looking forward. They’re just trying to be
here, in the moment, as present as possible: “I realized I needed a bigger lens
through which to see the world, I didn’t want to be bitter anymore.”

Zzzahara’s sophomore album, Tender, will be released TK via Lex Records, and it
documents a period of transition following a devastating breakup. Instead of
crumbling, Zzzahara began to look inward by meditating and practicing
mindfulness. “I realized that drinking like, 30-40 drinks a week wasn’t making
me happy, and that some of the people I hung around with weren’t real friends,”
they say. “I still party, but I limit myself. When I spend time with people, I
want it to feel intentional.” Touring Liminal Spaces offered Zzzahara an
opportunity for further growth. They were on the road constantly following the
album’s release, and Zzzahara found themselves fully responsible for the band’s
wellbeing. Upon returning to Los Angeles, that sense of responsibility stuck.
“If I had to describe what my life is like now, I’d say ‘consistent.’ I’m trying
to be consistent with everything I do.”

Consistency requires tenderness, a willingness to cradle the soft parts of
yourself that often go unnoticed. “After my breakup, I spent a lot of time
sitting in the park journaling and crying,” Zzzahara says, laughing. Some of
those pages led to the songs on Tender, whose lyrics Zzzahara describes as
honest reflections on the present moment. Lead single “Kensington” narrates a
walk down the block where Zzzahara’s new love lives. The ebullient,
guitar-driven pop song recalls the Cure in both its instrumental aesthetics and
ambiguously saccharine lyrics undercut by a scuzzy, devil-may-care delivery. “I
get lost in your eyes/ Puppy smile/ Breath of wine/ Kensington/ Out of air/
Nicotine and despair,” Zzzahara drawls on the opening verse. In just two
minutes, they capture the ecstatic experience of falling in love, but later, on
“IDK How to Luv,” the anxiety of finding newfound love, and keeping it, takes
hold.

Zzzahara’s work ethic changed in the making of this album, too. “I’m not one of
those musicians who can slack off and then make a perfect record in, like, a
week,” they say. “I need to be consistently playing, consistently trying to
learn new techniques.” To make Tender, they locked themselves in their studio
and subsisted on cold brew for nine to ten hours a day. To most, this sounds
nightmarish, but the monastic experience gave Zzzahara a sense of total control
over the output. “I think that’s what made the record what it is.” While Liminal
Spaces was recorded at Stone’s Throw and Zzzahara had access to a range of
instruments to make it, Tender thrives on the intimacy created in a home studio.
Though Zzzahara produced the bulk of the record, they brought in friend and
fellow producer Jannick Frampton to complete it. “I learned so much making my
first record and I wanted this one to prove that,” Zzzahara says. They were also
inspired by their fans. “Going on tour and watching what songs people really
respond to and want to dance to, that made me want to write fast songs.”

The immediacy of these pop songs doesn’t detract from the sincerity of
Zzzahara’s lyrics. The dazzling guitar part heard on “Girls on SSRIs Don’t Cry”
might hide the song’s pathos momentarily, but the chorus is an open-hearted plea
to an ex. “I feel so lost without you,” Zzzahara admits. The album’s opener,
“Dust,” was written and recorded during that same period of yearning. It’s a
laconic song reminiscent of a mournful 1950s waltz. While Tender can largely be
considered a guitar rock album, the instrument is buried in the mix on “Dust,”
foregrounding programmed drums and Zzzahara’s raw vocal delivery.

As its title purports, Tender is a sincere album, but that doesn’t stop
Zzzahara, as they put it, letting their “asshole side loose.” The determinedly
bratty “I’d Like You to Leave” was written after a slew of boring dates, the
kind that make you want to hide in your house and never meet anyone again. “It’s
my favorite on the album,” they say. “It has the narrative perspective of being
kinda drunk at a party and just watching people interact with one another. You
get this sixth sense about people – you really see them.”

It’s easy to recognize the faults in others, less so in yourself. On Tender,
Zzzahara is unafraid of the world seeing theirs.

Anekdoten&Kurzgeschichten über Berlins Eigenarten und unangenehme
Charakterzüge. So treffen sich die Autorin und ihre große Liebe Berlin zu
Beginn der Geschichte bei der Paartherapeutin, die dafür sorgen sollte, dass
sich das „Paar“ wieder zusammenrauft. Der Rückblick beginnt und es wird
beschrieben, warum die Autorin der Stadt verfiel und was die Auslöser waren, von
Düsseldorf nach Berlin zu ziehen. Die Irrtümer und Missverständnisse, aber
auch das Schöne. Nach und nach kommen immer mehr Schweinereien ans Licht, die
Berlin als Schuft entlarven und zeigen, dass diese Stadt eine trügerische
Illusion ist. Die Zugezogenen werden sich womöglich wiedererkennen, die
Einheimischen werden trauern, und die, die nie nach Berlin wollten oder konnten
