Let's Talk Money - THAW Orkney
Boil less, save pennies

Don’t forget…next time you fill the kettle up to make brew, make sure you only
boil what you need.

For instance, if you’re just making one drink, then pour a cupful of water into
your kettle ☕

Kettles are renowned for being real energy guzzlers, but following simple tips
like this can help save valuable pennies in the long run.

For more energy efficiency advice or wider energy bills support, contact THAW
Orkney . They’re on hand to help people and businesses tackle energy-related
issues.

⚠️Folks, we have a really important safety reminder to share with you around the
disposal of gas canisters.⚠️

Now the weather is getting a bit better, some of you may be enjoying a gas-lit
BBQ, sitting outdoors by the gas-operated campfire or outdoor heating – and
that’s great. But, please, be mindful of how you dispose of the associated gas
canisters.

Our waste team have been finding increasing numbers of gas canisters in the
wheelie bins at the kerbside. That’s a definite no-no as there’s the risk of
fire or explosion when they are crushed in the back of the waste lorry.

Many retailers and suppliers of gas bottles will take back the gas bottle once
used. They are refilled and used again and again – so you are doing your bit for
the environment too.

Bossack can accept hazardous materials including gas canisters if there’s no
other option. Commercial customers will incur a charge for disposal.
