LVPPA ON FACEBOOK

Police Officer Jason Gathing has served with distinction as the Northwest Area
Command Board of Directors of the LVPPA.

Jason recently promoted to Detective, which will require him to leave NWAC and
head to the bureau.

Yesterday evening, Jason was recognized by the Board of Directors at our
meeting.

LVPPA President Steve Grammas had the privilege of presenting Jason this plaque
on behalf of a grateful association.

Congrats, Detective Gathing. We appreciate your service to not only our
community but to your fellow officers as well.

Last week, the LVPPA responded to an officer-involved shooting (OIS) in the area
of Flamingo and Maryland Pkwy.

These scenes are complex and very time-consuming. An unintended byproduct of
OISs is that they often times adversely affect local businesses due to road
closures.

During such occasions, we try our best to support the businesses impacted by our
presence by purchasing food for our cops who are stuck on the scenes for hours.

Last week was no exception. We popped into Raising Cane’s Store #C423. We met
with manager Adrian, and within 15–20 minutes, they cooked up a couple hundred
chicken fingers for your cops.

This crew was outstanding. If you’re ever in the area, check out Cane’s.

Thank you, Raising Cane's!

Judge Paul M. Gaudet was appointed to Family Court in March of 2023. He
currently serves as your judge in Department N and is seeking to be retained in
this year’s November election.

Prior to being appointed to the bench, Judge Gaudet owned and operated a
successful law practice here in Las Vegas for over 30 years that focused on
family and domestic cases. Judge Gaudet also practiced in the areas of personal
injury, commercial, juvenile and criminal law. Judge Gaudet’s law practice
focused on litigation, which provided him with a solid basis to “hit the ground
running” upon his appointment to the Family Court Bench.

Judge Gaudet graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center
of Louisiana State University in 1992. Prior to law school, Judge Gaudet
completed his undergraduate education with a Bachelor of Science in accounting
from Southeastern Louisiana University. Before beginning law school, Judge
Gaudet worked for two years as an accountant/auditor. He relocated to Las Vegas
during early April of 1992. Las Vegas has been his home ever since.

Judge Gaudet has three adult children who grew up in Clark County. In his spare
time, he enjoys spending time with family, fishing, traveling and rooting for
his beloved LSU Tiger sports program.

The Las Vegas Police Protective Association and the Public Safety Alliance of
Nevada represent the vast majority of law enforcement officers in the state of
Nevada. We are proud to endorse Judge Paul Gaudet to be retained to Family Court
Department N.

On March 15, 2024, Patrolman Justin Hare of the New Mexico State Police was
killed in the line of duty.

Patrolman Hare was dispatched to assist a disabled motorist near Tucumari, NM.
When he arrived, the person he tried to assist shot him.

Unbeknownst to Patrolman Hare, the scumbag savage he was trying to help was the
suspect in a homicide.

Justin was 35 years old and had been a cop for six years. He is survived by his
parents, children and girlfriend.

Godspeed, brother.

Judge Cynthia Dustin-Cruz (Re-Elect Judge Cynthia Dustin-Cruz) has been part of
the Las Vegas Community for over 54 years. Daughter to a police officer and a
secretary, Judge Cruz grew up in Las Vegas, graduating from Bonanza High School.
She attended UNLV, earning her Bachelor of Science degree and her Juris
Doctorate from UNLV’s William S. Boyd School of Law.

She entered into the legal field, handling criminal and civil matters until she
was elected to be Justice of the Peace in Las Vegas Justice Court Department 5
in 2012. Since taking the bench in 2013, she has handled both criminal and civil
caseloads, eviction and traffic dockets as well as the Initial Appearance Court.
She has served as Vice-Chief Judge for Las Vegas Justice Court from 2019–2021,
and is currently the Chief Judge for the court.

In addition to authoring grants bringing in over $3 million dollars in new
funding to the court, she is the presiding judge for the Drug Court and DUI
Repeat Offender Treatment Courts.

With over 20 years as a licensed attorney in Nevada and over 11 years as a
judge, Cynthia is running to maintain her position as Justice of the Peace for
Department 5 so that she can continue working to improve Clark County.

Cynthia’s accomplishments and committee assignments are simply too long to list
here. To learn more about Judge Cruz, please visit her website at cruz4judge.com

The LVPPA & PSAN represent the overwhelming majority of law enforcement officers
in the State of Nevada. We are proud to endorse Judge Cruz for re-election.

Last week, a woman was minding her own business, loading shopping bags into her
car, when a scumbag armed with a knife terrorized and threatened her.

Thankfully, when the calls to 9-1-1 came in, Patrol Sergeant Brosnahan and
several police officers made their way to the area quickly and searched for the
thug, ultimately finding him.

He refused to obey officers' commands and allow himself to be peacefully taken
into custody. Officers attempted to use less lethal options to de-escalate the
threat, only to be met with the savage charging at the cops still armed with his
knife.

He was ultimately shot. Even though he terrorized a helpless citizen and
attempted to attack and kill uniformed police officers, your cops attempted
life-saving measures on the suspect, who died.

We are thankful for Sergeant Brosnahan and the officers who held the line and
stood between an unhinged bad guy and innocent civilians. These cops risked
their safety and well-being to protect the people they serve.

Thankfully, neither the victim nor the officers were injured. Thank you to the
citizens of our community who support our officers.

Today we remember Corrections Officer James Walter Harbin III, who died on this
day in 1979.

Officer Harbin II joined the LVMPD on February 7, 1979. On March 18, 1979, only
6 1/2 weeks after he was hired, Officer Harbin was shot and killed in a
convenience store robbery. He had stopped at the store en route to work. The
store clerk tried to warn him of the robbery in progress. The suspect mistook
Officer Harbin's corrections uniform for that of a police officer's and shot
him. The suspect was later apprehended after holding police at bay for several
hours.

Officer Harbin was only 22 years old when he died and was survived by his
parents.
