Subject: Statement on AfriNIC

Accra, 12th August 2021.

The Forum of African Computer Emergency Response Teams (AfricaCERT) has become
aware of the situation at the root of the litigation between its sister
organization, the African Network Information Center (AFRINIC), and one of its
members.

The AfricaCERT Membership includes National Computer Emergency Response Teams as
wells as security and incident response teams from various sectors. Computer
Security Incident Response Teams rely on the services provided by AfriNIC to
fulfill their mission in securing African Cyberspace. The AfricaCERT is
monitoring the situation closely.

The AfricaCERT also reminds all parties in the litigation process of the
critical role of the AfriNIC in building an accessible, reliable, inclusive
digital infrastructure and its role in supporting the growth of the Internet in
continental Africa and the Indian Ocean.

The AfriCACERT encourages all parties in the litigation process to consider the
damage to the stability and security of the Internet in Africa and the Indian
Ocean and the African continent's economic development if the AfriNIC becomes
unable to fulfill its mission.

The AfricaCERT expresses its support to AfriNIC, the Regional Internet Registry
for Africa, and thanks to Mr. Eddy Kayihura, for his continuous updates to the
community.
