CORRUPTION AND INTEGRITY RISKS IN CLIMATE SOLUTIONS

DLA PIPER

DESCRIPTION

The volume of climate initiatives and net zero pledges grows every day. At the
same time, the number of investigations revealing misconduct in climate action
surges. While certain high-profile incidents are starting to receive some
attention, there has to date been limited involvement from “conventional”
anti-corruption actors such as criminal law enforcement agencies and
environmental regulators in the climate arena.

Understanding how corruption interacts with any proposed climate action is
uniquely important because of the scale of transformation and finance involved.
Delivering the transition entails a redirection of financial flows on an
unprecedented scale. The potential impact of corruption, or poor integrity
behaviours, in these flows can be significant. These challenges are further
amplified by the speed in which this transformation and finance needs to be
delivered, if the goals of the Paris Agreement are to be delivered.

Drawing from a Grantham Research Institute paper, co-authored with DLA Piper,
this webinar identifies corruption and integrity risks that may emerge in the
implementation of climate solutions, considers the legislative frameworks in
place to manage those risks, where there are gaps in those frameworks and
practical solutions for both the public and private sectors to make real impact
in mitigating the risks identified.
