THE FUTURE OF DIAGNOSIS: ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE AND EQUITY

Many patients and healthcare providers have known for decades that missed and
delayed diagnoses are a major problem in modern health care. Similarly, many
have long known that healthcare access and outcomes in patients from
underrepresented populations are unacceptably poor. Only more recently have
researchers, educators, regulators, patients, patient advocates, and
policymakers started to come together to address the epidemics of diagnostic
errors and healthcare inequity. Additional important advancements in moving this
work forward have included learning from excellence in addition to learning from
adverse outcomes. SIDM’s 16th annual international conference in Cleveland, The
Future of Diagnosis: Achieving Excellence and Equity, will bring together
thought leaders in diagnosis and equity to explore a future in which we achieve
excellence in diagnosis that is consistently safe, timely, accurate, and
equitable for all patients.
