I started about eight years ago as a security engineer within global information
protection, and since then I moved to managing our local security team building
new services, and I just took on my current role about a month ago. What I love

Management at Amgen, where we oversee clinical trial operations and also partner
very closely with hospitals to deliver trials from study startup all the way up
to closeout. I love the opportunity we get at Amgen to collaborate with very
talented and diverse colleagues across different organizations where we learn,
share ideas and knowledge with each other every day. We try to promote and
facilitate one team culture within our function and also across the
organization, which normally helps us to effectively deliver clinical trials
with speed, but also helps in creating mutual respect and increases a sense of

Hi, my name's Rayna Furman, and I'm here to talk to you a little bit about Amgen
and my journey at Amgen. I got a phone call one day from a college friend who
said there's a role here that I really think you'd be great for, and I went to
the interview and it turned out to be a wonderful experience and I got the job
and here I am, 15 years later and I'm still here. It's been a great ride. It's
such a cool, innovative place to work. It's fabulous for growth and opportunity.
It's a learning environment. I really love the fact that it's dynamic. I don't
do the same thing every day. And it's big, we have a big company. We've got lots
of opportunity. There are so many facets to this company for someone in IS. We
have client-facing roles, where you go and work directly with those business
clients, and then we have a centralized IS function, which is what I'm in, in
the office of the CIO, where you're able to be global. I have colleagues that
are in Europe, I have colleagues in Japan, I have colleagues across the United
States. So every day, it's a new day, and it's a new chance to learn something
new or stretch my own skills in projects and initiatives that the company puts
together that are really exciting. And at the end of the day, it's really about
the patients that we serve, and Amgen does a great job of putting that first. So
no matter what we do, it is to make sure that what we're putting out in the
market is actually great for our patients and helps people's lives. So I get to
go home at night feeling really great about the company that I work for. And
professionally, it's just been a wonderful ride, and I would like to cheers to
another 15 years. So I hope that you come along, apply for one of these roles,
and get a chance to get on this train 'cause it's a pretty good one.

What is the culture like in your organization?

You know at Amgen, we talk a lot about serving patients. It's our core mission
and what we do every morning when we get up. And it's the thing that we're most
excited about. You know, for me as someone who focuses on patient marketing
every day, the very most important thing we can do is to truly understand the
needs of patients and then to really think about the most creative and most
innovative ways that we can reach them. We often see them as patients and the
relationship they have with their medication, and that's important. And in fact
that's often a big part of their lives given these conditions. However, it's
also important that we understand them in their larger life context. Their
relationships, their career, their interests, their relationship with their
physician and how they approach medication for us to most successfully find the
right way to talk to them so we can meet them where they are at the right place
at their journey. So again, understanding patient needs and truly understanding
how we can best meet them through innovative solutions.

What does Amgen’s “mission to serve patients” mean to you? How do you live the
mission?

I love working on the Respiratory Team at Amgen, and a huge reason for that is
because of the team culture. We are a group that drives results and we take our
work seriously, but not ourselves. We have a lot of fun and really enjoy working
together. We are incredibly team-focused and highly collaborative and believe
that bringing diversity of thought and inclusiveness makes us better. All of us
have a singular focus on the patients that we are serving and that propels our
success on this team. It's a really fun place to be. The work is incredibly
meaningful and we all love being a part of it. If this speaks to you, I hope

What is the culture like in your organization?

When I think about how Amgen supports diversity, inclusion and belonging, there
are a few things that come to mind. I think about 1,000,010. This is the
commitment that Amgen and 35 other companies have made over the course of the
next 10 years to hiring 1,000,000 African-Americans. I think about RISE. This is
Representation in Clinical Research. This is our focus on ensuring that there
are more diverse populations that are included in our clinical research. And
last but not least, I think about Amgen's commitment to ensuring that over the
next several years, we are committed to having more Blacks and Latinos in
executive director and above positions. At the end of the day, these are just a
few of the illustrations that help, in my mind, show us that Amgen is absolutely
supportive of diversity, inclusion and belonging as we all seek to belong.
