WE’RE SETTING OUR SIGHTS ON A GREENER FUTURE

TARGETS, AND WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

WHERE DO COMMUNITY EMISSIONS COME FROM?

WHEN THE CITY REFERS TO "COMMUNITY GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSION," THIS MEANS THE
PRIMARY SECTORS PROVIDED BY THE PROVINCE OF BC.
YOU CAN LEARN MORE HERE: COMMUNITY ENERGY AND EMISSIONS INVENTORY - PROVINCE OF
BRITISH COLUMBIA (GOV.BC.CA)

Gasoline and Natural Gas are the largest contributors to community greenhouse
gas emissions in Maple Ridge, followed by Diesel Fuel. The BAU or “Business as
Usual” line shows where emissions will be by 2030 if we continue on our current
path. The light green “Target” line shows where we could potentially be if we
implement immediate and significant policies and actions.

Maple Ridge citizens and businesses spent almost $230 million on fossil fuels in
2020. Meeting the greenhouse gas reduction targets currently proposed by Council
would mean almost $60 million LESS in annual spending on fossil fuels by 2030.
