work corrected on the iPad and then hook it up to my projector to workshop
student essays in class. As for eBooks: I use a four - five textbooks for my
classes (you know those big Norton anthologies?) plus a number of smaller novels
/ memoirs.

I'd love to load all my textbooks onto the iPad and carry only this device. But
without being able to handwrite notes in the 'margins,' it's kind of useless to
me.

I often use my marginalia to pose questions in class. It's got to be right there
on the page in front of me; not in some other document that I'd need to bring
up. So, yeah, the lack of an integrated handwriting feature in Pages and the
ebook reader is a deal breaker for me. I'd love to see it, as I could easily
imagine trading a shoulder bag full of dog-earred, carefully annotated textbooks
and a bundle of loose student papers for a sleek iPad that allows me to read,
grade, and annotate books and student work.

Maybe in the next version? Or am I missing something here and can I do those
things on an iPad?

The use of VirtualBox as an abstraction layer has proved useful in getting
Windows and Mac users up and running with Docker, but it also introduces a
number of development, integration.

Docker a beta of Docker for Mac and Docker for Windows, two software packages
that represent significant software architecture changes made to optimize Docker
for an OS-native experience. While users could previously use Docker on Windows
and Mac, the packages remove additional layers of dependencies and offer native,
tightly integrated user experience. Docker can now be installed as a native
Windows or native Mac app, launched and utilized from a system toolbar just
like any other packaged application.

The bottom line is that Mac and Windows users can enjoy faster Docker-driven
iteration cycles because their code changes can be tested instantaneously on the
laptop without the need to build the Docker application image first. “Docker for
Mac and Windows reflects deep OS system-level work from our team and
demonstrates how, moving forward, we can leverage native platform capabilities
to provide users with the same optimized Docker experience on all
platforms,” said Solomon Hykes, Docker founder, chief technology officer and

EXCEL FOR MAC HANGS ON LOAD

the web are in csv format. When we downloaded them to local disk, reopened and
re-saved as XLS the files get cut in half size wise from 400 to 200MB. Then
pivots and other calculations become a little faster. Opening the 400MB file on
my PC with SSD didn't make a huge difference in how fast it was opening.

Aug 6, 2016 - Excel has a habit of crashing. Excel for Mac 2011 just seems to
crash - a lot - in my case, pretty much. Loading 3 more updates now. Try a safe
boot: To disable certain software that loads at startup and to run cleanup
processes that may resolve random gremlins in your system, try a safe boot:
Restart your Mac, and, immediately.

For now i asked him to resave the csv to xls and see if theres any
improvement. Really? That's really strange. Normally it's the other way around,
CSVs are smaller than XLS, since it's just plain text without any formatting.
The 2 GB limit is per-instance and includes the Excel application, any plugins
associated with the session, as well as any workbook data (including formatting
and calculated values)(source:). If you're using pivot tables, then you may be
running into that limit (I know our pivot table users here do). Microsoft
recommends using 32-bit Excel in most cases (source: ) but does list 'large data
sets' as a reason for trying 64-bit (source: ). On the other hand, if you can
reduce the amount of formatting Excel needs to do, you could possibly save
yourself from having to upgrade your Excel clients (source: ).

Since this is all based on a CSV though, I imagine the formatting is minimal.
Tldr; Upgrading to 64-bit will probably solve this issue.

We have updated our vdi's to win 10 and installed office 2016. Upon start up we
noticed that excel and word would hang up and display the not responding
message. This would last for about 20-30 seconds. Then it would work ok. Upon
some research we have done, we figured that excel when it starts, it is trying
to connect to login.live.com. It is our company's policy though, that all
traffic goes through our proxy and no machine is allowed to communicate with the
internet directly. Of course our proxy blocks the connection to login.live.com
and excel hangs.

We have also installed the office 2016 group policy administrative templates and
disabled all cloud options in hope that this would disable office to communicate
with the internet but still it does. Our question is if there is an option
(group policy, registry or office application setting) that would disable office
to communicate with the internet and / or login.live.com. We have also noticed
that when we opened to the internet to only one of our vdi for activation the
problem was resolved after putting it behind the proxy. If we activate office
via phone, the issue remain. As a side note, office is activated with a mac key.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
