People Hate the Idea of Car-Free Cities—Until They Live in One
www.wired.com People Hate the Idea of Car-Free Cities—Until They Live in One

Removing cars from urban areas means lower carbon emissions, less air
pollution, and fewer road traffic accidents. So why are residents so
   resistant?

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps,
unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system
app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet
connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a
   thing?

Edit 2: I bought my Pixel 6 phone outright, directly from Google's Australian
   store. I have no creditors.

Were the courts not enough control for creditors? Since when are they allowed
to lock you out of your purchased property without a court order?

I don't even live in the US, so what the actual fuck?

Edit 1: You can check it's installed (stock android) Settings > Apps > All
Apps > three dot menu, Show system > search "DeviceLockController".

I highly recommend getting NetGuard, you can enable pro features via their
website if you have the APK for as low as 0.10€, but donate more, because
it's amazing. You can also purchase via Google Play store.

Your Car Is Spying on You for Insurance Companies

It turns out that the “Internet of Things” is full of automated snoops and
spies. Data collection, now integrated into new car designs, is more
pervasive than ever and is ushering in a brave new world of surveillance and
   corporate collusion.

What are developers in different languages known as?

I've heard of Pythonistas and Rustaceans. What are some of the other names
given to devs writing in, for example, PHP or C++. Appreciate any answers -
   both serious and joking.

Well, that didn't last long did it. After a first release, GitLab have
already pulled down the Nintendo Switch emulator suyu project, due to a DMCA
hit as a result of it being forked from yuzu which Nintendo shut down.

Explicit sync Wayland protocol has finally been merged!
   gitlab.freedesktop.org linux-drm-syncobj-v1: new protocol (!90) · Merge
   requests · wayland / wayland-protocols · GitLab

This is a new Linux explicit synchronization protocol based on DRM
   synchronization objects 1.

Since nvidia drivers do not properly implement implicit sync, this protocol
not existing is the root cause of flickering with nvidia graphics on Wayland.
This MR being merged means that Wayland might finally be usable with nvidia
graphics with the next driver release.

EDIT: Nvidia dev posted that support is planned in the 555 driver, with beta
   release planned for May 15:
