EFFORTLESS PLANNING POKER

REAL-TIME STORY ESTIMATION FOR AGILE TEAMS.
ADD YOUR TICKETS AND INVITE YOUR TEAM IN JUST A FEW CLICKS.

Start Estimating Now!

END-TO-END JIRA INTEGRATION

We understand the effort of manual copying story values between the tools. This
is why we have integrated our tool with the most commonly used tool by agile
teams: Jira

BOTH-WAYS INTEGRATION

The integration imports your stories from Jira into the PlanYourSprint and saves
your estimation results back to Jira when the estimation is finished.

START A PLANNING POKER

1. ADD YOUR USER STORIES

Import your Jira backlog or quickly copy-paste a list of your tickets. You can
add, delete and edit your tickets anytime.

2. INVITE YOUR TEAM

Share an invitation link with your agile team or add your participants to join
the team, and PlanYourSprint will send an invitation.

3. START PLANNING POKER

Vote on your tickets with planning poker cards. Some teams use the Fibonacci
sequence, and others use T-shirt sizes. PlanYourSprint allows you to use one of
the most common scales or create your own to simulate a deck of physical cards.

ESTIMATION PROCESS

Estimators discuss the user story complexities, and when the team is ready to
vote, the Facilitator starts voting, which is time-constrained.

Estimators are presented with an identical deck of cards regarding story points.
Each player gives an estimate invisible to the rest of the team.

The estimating process ends when the facilitator reveals the cards with
estimates.

Consensus-based decision is made, and the estimate is assigned to the ticket.
Subsequent estimates are obtained the same way for the next story.

FAQ – CLEAR YOUR DOUBTS

HOW DOES PLANNING POKER WORK?

Planning poker, sometimes called scrum poker, is a gamified technique used to
estimate how much work different user stories will take. A facilitator
orchestrates the planning poker ceremony and the rest of the participants use a
deck of cards to give initial estimates. Cards express story points used to
reach a consensus number. Discussion is facilitated to decide on the effort
assigned to the story.

WHAT USER STORY POINTS SCALES ARE AVAILABLE?

Most commonly used scales to estimate effort like the Fibonacci sequence or
T-shirt sizes are available out of the box. PlanYourSprint allows to define
custom scales with other units of effort as well.

WHO TAKES PART IN THE PLANNING SESSION?

Facilitator – typically product owner or scrum master. Players – any other
participants. Typically cross-functional team, including software developers, QA
testers, UX designers, and product owners and managers.

HOW TO ADD TICKETS FROM THE PRODUCT BACKLOG?

Tickets can be added as a text list or imported from Jira in the issues tab.

MY TEAM GIVES TOO HIGH OR TOO LOW ESTIMATES

Estimates tend to improve with with time. This is happening because of the
initial cognitive bias of the new process for the first team member and the
ability to relatively compare ticket estimates.

IS THE PLANNING POKER USED ONLY FOR SOFTWARE TEAMS?

A software project is a typical use case for planning poker, but there is
absolutely no reason to use this process for other types of agile projects.

CAN I CANCEL ANYTIME?

You can cancel the subscription anytime.

BENEFITS OF PLANNING POKER

COLLABORATIVE ESTIMATION

Poker planning emphasizes team collaboration by involving the entire team in the
estimation process. This collective approach harnesses the diverse knowledge and
experience of team members, resulting in comprehensive and precise estimations.

IMPROVED ACCURACY

Through discussions and debates during estimation sessions, poker planning
uncovers complexities or challenges associated with specific tasks. This leads
to more realistic and accurate estimates, reducing the risk of underestimation
or overestimation, which can disrupt project planning.

TRANSPARENCY

Known for its open and transparent nature, scrum poker ensures that all team
members have a clear understanding of task complexity, dependencies, and
requirements. This clarity empowers participants to make informed commitments,
enhancing overall project transparency.

CONSENSUS BUILDING

Poker planning fosters consensus among team members. It requires team members to
collaborate and reach a shared common understanding and agreement on
estimations. This approach minimizes individual biases and encouraging
collective responsibility.

REDUCED COGNITIVE BIAS

Poker planning mitigates cognitive biases that can affect estimations. It
minimizes the risk of over-optimism, underestimation, and other biases that
could lead to unrealistic project timelines.

EFFICIENT PLANNING

The technique streamlines sprint planning. It leads to more agile practices,
better organization, predictable project timelines and a smoother workflow,
simplifying resource allocation.

BETTER DECISION-MAKING

Accurate estimations from poker planning enable stakeholders to make informed
decisions regarding project scope relative to size, priorities, and resource
allocation. This enhances overall decision-making processes.

INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY

Clear and accurate estimations help team members understand task requirements.
This clarity boosts the productivity and task efficiency of the whole team by
minimizing confusion and misunderstandings.

FLEXIBLE SCALES

Poker planning accommodates custom scales to meet the unique needs of different
projects. This adaptability tailors the technique to specific project
requirements or constraints.

ENGAGED TEAM MEMBERS

Team members participate in the estimation process during poker planning
sessions. This involvement cultivates a sense of ownership, efficient work and
commitment to project success.

ENHANCED COMMUNICATION

Poker planning encourages open and effective communication among team members,
facilitating coordination and collaboration essential for project success.

PREDICTABLE DELIVERY

Accurate estimations and transparent discussions helps deliver projects on time
and within scope, ensuring predictable outcomes that stakeholders value.
