I have a company laptop that I use to work at home but in my schizoid fears I
didn't want it to connect directly to my WiFi so my current setup is

Modem -> Router('s WiFi) -> Phone hotspot -> laptop

Question is
1. Am I achieving anything with this
2. Why does my hotspot keep disconnecting like every 2 hours or so

Wayland won in 2024
GNOME has had an excellent Wayland session for years. Now it finally has VRR
(variable refresh rate) and explicit sync support (fixing all the Nvidia
issues). It has dynamic triple buffering too.

KDE (Plasma 6) also has these features.

MATE has a Wayland session, using the Wayfire compositor.

Budgie is planning to go Wayland only.

COSMIC will soon be launched and is Wayland only.

LXQt is 100% Wayland ready.

LXDE can be used with the Wayfire compositor, as demonstrated by Raspberry Pi
OS.

Even Xfce will support Wayland sometime this century.

It's over X-fags. You lost. Wayland won. I will be drinking your tears all year,
and for all years to come.

New York Times source code leak
Basically all source code belonging to The New York Times Company, 270GB. There
are around 5 thousand repos (out of them less than 30 are additionally encrypted
I think), 3.6 million files total, uncompressed tar. Please seed, the seedboxes
might not be enough.

With love from /aicg/.

Now that Microshart has started taking screenshots of your monitor every 5
seconds, I propose it adds some more features from the glorious Red Star OS:
1. Crash the computer if the user tries to disable security functions (in case
the user is a hacker and wants to do bad things to the government)
2. Watermark all files and content with the hard drive's serial number so that
you can more easily trace chuds and people who spread misinformation about
vaccines and trans folx
3. Add a hidden antivirus that is capable of removing all software and files
that have not been approved by the Anti-Homophobia Committee of George Floyd
4. Disable root access and deny the user administrator rights (see Point 1)
Together with Microsoft, we will finally establish a communist utopia. Glory to
the Supreme Leader!

Have you guys seen the latest tech from Modos? 60hz on an e-ink panel is quite
cool, even if it's only black and white. You can make out a little bit of

starting crowd funding on the monitor soon.

Why is even Yandex pozzed?
Ten years ago, Google-fu was a thing. If you worded your search query correctly,
you could find any pppublic page on the internet, provided it exists.
Increasingly frequently, I fail to find things I know for a fact exist. A quoted
literal string gives only two pages of results, neither of which contains the
page I know exists somewhere on the internet. They are withholding information
from us, not by blocking access to it but by simply making it unfindable.

That Google does this is obvious. Microsoft joining in as well is not a
surprise. But why does even Yandex give only two pages and omit valid results?
How can it be that every single search engine is pozzed?

>How does it work on Bing?
In Bing's Image Creator, "boosts" are used to speed up the image creation
process, each user starts with 15 boosts. When you use a boost, the AI creates
your image quickly. If you run out of boosts, the image waiting time increases,
ranging from seconds to minutes.

YouTube alternatives
Will there ever be an alternative video platform that matches its ability to let
you regularly put out content to a large audience?
Vimeo comes close but you have to pay to exceed the limits and the audience is
definitely more limited.

W10 Enterprise IoT LTSC 2021
-10 years support on IoT LTSC, EoL 2032
-5 years on LTSC
-No feature updates
-Binary identical to Enterprise except no MS Store and no bloat apps

LISP Vs C discussion
Has the full power of LISP been harnessed by other languages or does LISP still
hold the edge in Lambda functions and Lambda declarations?

Modern GUIs utilize lambda functionality, in instances where you must iterate
through all entries of an array or a multiple dimension array, it is always
better to parse an anonymous function to a method so it can be executed by the
method.

This improves the functionality of your methods significantly.

Lambdas can also utilized in java, and find extensive utilization and extensive
functionality inside GUIs and complex programs.

Is there another programming language which has the speed and ease of writing of
LISP in this area?

Seeking Advice for Reliable AMD Ryzen Hackintosh Laptop Build
Hey /g/,

I'm considering delving into the world of Hackintosh on a laptop and could use
some guidance before I proceed. Here's the configuration I'm eyeing:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with Radeon Graphics (8 Cores, 16 Logical
Processors)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
Motherboard: [Insert Compatible Laptop Model Here]
RAM: 16GB or 32GB DDR4
Storage: 500GB SSD for macOS
I understand that Hackintoshing a laptop can be even trickier than a desktop,
but I'm determined to give it a shot for the portability and power this setup
could offer.

Does anyone have experience with Hackintoshing a laptop with similar specs? Any
recommendations for a compatible laptop model or resources to streamline the
process would be greatly appreciated.

Also, any insights on handling the NVIDIA GPU in macOS would be helpful. I've
heard conflicting reports about compatibility and performance.

Thanks in advance for any advice or pointers you can provide!

ok I admit it chatgpt helped me to make this thread but If I help this person
she will give me 100 euros, I need to help her, he want a pdf too with a
explanation how to do it.

Are Operating System AI's ((Big Techs)) response to the growth of AIs? (pic
unrelated)

They cannot stop people from making personal standalone AIs (the full process
will become increasingly viable), but they can get people addicted to using
THEIR AIs.

AIs that are:

1) Heavily censored, politically correct
2) Manipulative, giving you only ((approved)) perspectives
3) Only available online, as a service
4) Constantly monitoring you (Windows recall etc.)

Why would average joe make his own AI - when he can get all his questions
answered using Microsoft's or Googles?

It takes the motivation out of making your own AI - your own personal Wizard who
can give you exact instructions on how to make a bomb.

They are afraid of its power, should it ever take off that everyone can now use
one, on their own, unmonitored, unregulated.

Master's in Information Systems & Business Analytics
I was a computer science major who switched to political science because I
thought I enjoyed politics more than CS. Graduating with a poli sci degree and I
realize that was a bad idea.
I'm planning for a master's in information systems and a master's with business
analytics. My concentration will be cybersecurity.

Is this a good plan to go with?

understanding of the Universe.

“If you take the two largest supercomputers in the world, and you combine them
and you multiply them by four, that’s what we’re building here in Memphis.”

Pajeets are terrified of people moving to Linux.
Every third thread is either fake anecdotes about difficulties some jeet
invented, or just general discouragement. Is this really effective? Why is it
tolerated? I just makes globohomo seem desperate and afraid.

i dont know anything about LLMs really but if there's concern about reaching
limits in terms of available data to train a bigger model on, can you not
approach it some other way?

like instead of a prediction engine, is there some other way to achieve this
route? instead of throwing more compute at it, why not build it differently?

or is it always going to be like this, because this is just the way you build
AI?

StrictYAML
I like YAML syntax, it's easy to read and to write and I like that it uses
Python-like indentation for grouping, I don't like how fucking bloated it is
though, and from what I always heard most people agree with this opinion.
So making a subset of YAML to use for my software config/definiton files (which
I have to edit by hand) seemed the perfect solution, well apparently it already
exists although it's not a specification of a new language, it's just a Python
implementation that removes the bloat and the implicit type casting (everything
is considered a string and you're supposed to define a schema).
https://github.com/crdoconnor/strictyaml
Opinions? Ever used it?

I'm a first year developer and I have some questions about how certain types of
apps work. Professors are away for the summer so I can't ask them.

First off, calendars. Are events stored as single records in a database with
logic for determining which days it repeats on? Or is there a separate record
for each and every day?

In a similar light, how would this apply to an airline reservation system? Would
they have a single record for each flight? Or separate records for every day the
flight operates?

Having a single record for the second situation seems like you'd run into
problems. For example, how do you cancel flights for a specific date? How do you
schedule pilots and crew for a specific date? And passengers? And maintenance?

It seems these problems are solved with document databases, but most ARSs use
relational databases so I'm just curious how it's implemented.

So OpenAI has more than 100 million active customers.
They have to serve their GPT-4 to these people. Millions of simultaneous users.
One instance of GPT-4 requires 3.5TB of vram. A lot of compute.

My question is simple: how big of a model could they run if they did not give a
fuck about serving millions of users and instead used all the capacity for one
giant model to serve just one customer; themselves?
Seems like something you should do. Maybe you can't serve that model to millions
of people, but you would see what is possible and how well the AI scales.

>It can help to save water. When you flush the toilet, you are using water. By
placing an empty toilet roll under the seat, you can help to save water by
reducing the amount of water that is needed to flush the toilet. This is because
the empty toilet roll will help to absorb some of the water, which will reduce
the amount of water that is needed to flush the toilet. This can save you money
on your water bill and it can also be good for the environment.
