LARGE DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES. JANUARY 2013 I ORDERED TWO CUSTOM ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES
FROM TRAIN WORKS, AN SD45 AND SD40T2, BOTH IN RIO GRANDE LIVERY. THEY WERE
SHIPPED ABOUT JULY 15TH AND ARRIVED IN PERFECT CONDITION. WE TOOK THEM TO THE
NEW UNIONVILLE & WESTERN RR NEAR BLOOMINGTON WHERE WE UNCRATED THEM, INSTALLED
BATTERIES AND TOOK OFF DOWN THE TRACK.ALCO, GE, AND INGERSOLL RAND FORMED A
CONSORTIUM TO BUILD DIESEL-ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES. IN OCTOBER 1925, CENTRAL
RAILROAD OF NEW JERSEY TOOK DELIVERY OF A 300 HORSEPOWER BOXCAB DIESEL
LOCOMOTIVE (#1000) FOR USE AT ITS BRONX TERMINAL IN NEW YORK. THIS WAS THE FIRST
DIESEL TO EXPERIENCE A LONG CAREER, OPERATING FOR 32 YEARS BEFORE RETIREMENT IN
1957.THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD (REPORTING MARKS UP, UPP, UPY), LEGALLY UNION
PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY AND OFTEN CALLED SIMPLY UNION PACIFIC, IS A
