Smolcasm<p>you know, some dismiss english reform as nigh impossible in the
modern era, but i think we're actually at the start of a <em>huge</em>
one</p><p>we're beginning to disambiguate words with many meanings by
<em>dividing</em> them into different spellings like "what" and "wat," "thick"
and "thicc," and, of course, "small" and "smol"</p><p>we're <em>inventing</em>
interjections, punctuation, or even tone indicators wholesale with expressions
that would have been virtually inscrutable before the advent of the virtual
world, not the least of which include "lol," "k," or "/s"</p><p>oh, and one
other teeny tiny little detail: <em>hieroglyphs are making a comeback</em> 😱
</p><p>some in academia frame these changes as being the corruption or
degradation of a great language... rather than, you know, the innovation and
evolution of what would otherwise be a horribly clunky and disjointed one. and
we're presented with <em>ample</em> opportunities to make further changes
together every single day: in the absence of a regulating body, no one can stop
me from typing in lowercase</p>
