President Joe Biden has declared that "MAGA lost" as he celebrated Tuesday's
election results that saw wins for Democrats and a significant victory for
abortion rights in Ohio.

Biden took to social media site X, formerly Twitter, and praised the results of
elections that saw Democrats rack up notable wins in the Kentucky governor's
race and in the Virginia legislature.

"Across the country tonight, democracy won and MAGA lost," Biden wrote on his X
account on Tuesday, referring to the Make America Great Again slogan associated
with former President Donald Trump, who remains the Republican frontrunner in
polls for the party's 2024 presidential nomination. "Voters vote. Polls don't.
Now let's go win next year. Donate to join us."

Biden may have been making reference to recent polls from The New York
Times/Siena College that showed Trump leading the president in five key swing
states.

In a separate post by the official @POTUS account on X, Biden wrote: "Tonight,
Americans once again voted to protect their fundamental freedoms—and democracy
won."

"In Ohio, voters protected access to reproductive health in their state
constitution. Ohioans and voters across the country rejected attempts by MAGA
Republican elected officials to impose extreme abortion bans that put the health
and lives of women in jeopardy, force women to travel hundreds of miles for
care, and threaten to criminalize doctors and nurses for providing the health
care that their patients need and that they are trained to provide. This extreme
and dangerous agenda is out-of-step with the vast majority of Americans," the
post went on.

"My Administration will continue to protect access to reproductive health care
and call on Congress to restore the protections of Roe v. Wade in federal law
once and for all," Biden wrote.

Newsweek has reached out to former President Trump's team via email for comment.

Voters in Ohio approved a ballot measure on Tuesday that will enshrine
reproductive rights, including abortion access, into the state constitution.
They also voted in favor of a ballot measure that will legalize recreational
marijuana.

Both ballot measures needed at least 50 percent support to pass. Ohio voters
backed Trump in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

In Kentucky, Democratic Governor Andy Beshear won reelection and defeated
Republican state Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Kentucky is considered a deep
red state where Trump won in 2016 and 2020.

In Virginia, Democrats gained full control of the General Assembly. They
retained their majority in the state Senate, which they've held since 2020, and
flipped the House of Delegates.

Democrats in Virginia campaigned on protecting access to abortion and their wins
on Tuesday will likely cause a headache for Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin,
who had been considered by some Republicans as a rising star in the GOP..#

Virginia Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Mamie Locke also referenced MAGA in a
statement on Tuesday.

"It's official: there will be absolutely no abortion ban legislation sent to
Glenn Youngkin's desk for the duration of his term in office, period, as we have
thwarted MAGA Republicans' attempt to take total control of our government and
our bodies," Locke said.

There was some good news for Republicans on Tuesday, as Governor Tate Reeves was
reelected in Mississippi, defeating Democrat Brandon Presley.
