UTI PRE-DIAGNOSIS: SMART TURBIDITY ANALYZER EXECUTIVE SUMMARY We are developing a novel solution, a Portable Turbidity Analyzer, that leverages advanced computing methodologies to measure urine turbidity and predict the probability of a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). This user-friendly device is designed for use in clinics or by General Practitioners (GPs). PROJECT INSPIRATION The inspiration for this project stems from a research paper that identified urine cloudiness as a significant predictor for UTI. The paper suggests that these findings could be used to develop a point-of-care test for UTI, aligning with the objectives of our product. Turbidity, a measure of light scattering in a liquid, is quantified using a method called Nephelometry and is measured in units called NTU. Click here for the reference paper. THE TECHNOLOGY STACK Our product employs Fuzzy Logic to interpret turbidity measurements, which may vary due to several factors. Machine Learning algorithms are utilized to predict the likelihood of a UTI based on patient data and the turbidity score. Neuro-Logic methods, such as Neural Networks, are incorporated to enhance prediction accuracy over time. PRODUCT OVERVIEW The Portable Turbidity Analyzer is a compact device designed to measure urine turbidity. It interfaces with a software application that collects patient information and employs the Machine Learning model to provide a UTI probability score within 10-15 minutes. ADDRESSING THE CHALLENGE OF ANTIBIOTIC OVER-PRESCRIPTION The overuse of antibiotics is a significant challenge in healthcare. Our product aims to mitigate this issue by providing early and accurate diagnosis, enabling data-driven decisions, and facilitating patient education about their condition. This approach can lead to more judicious use of antibiotics, particularly in the treatment of UTIs. POTENTIAL IMPACT AND COMMERCIALIZATION This product holds considerable potential for patenting and commercialization in the global medical field. It can contribute to reducing the overuse of antibiotics and improving patient outcomes. CONCLUSION Our Portable Turbidity Analyzer offers a promising solution for on-site UTI pre-diagnosis. This proof of concept lays the groundwork for further development and refinement of the product.
