It is a matter of immense pleasure and pride for all of us that earlier this
year during January 2023, Chennai Port in its 142nd year of operation, had
demonstrated our national vision of “MAKE IN INDIA, MAKE FOR THE WORLD” by
performing a unique Float-On-Float off Operation to load an indigenously built
Ship ‘MA LISHA’ on another mother vessel ‘SUN RISE’ for transporting over 14,000
kilometres to Republic of Guyana, South America. Chennai Port has achieved
multiple milestones during the financial year 2022-23 including the highest Net
Surplus of Rs.156.06 Crores in the last 13 years. The YoY increase in Net
Surplus over FY 2021-22 was 38%. The increase in Export of Cars was 36% and the
increase in Import of Crude Oil was 24%. The number of Cargo Vessel calls
increased to 1,616 from 1,444 during FY 2021-22. During the reporting year,
2022-23, Chennai Port achieved a throughput of 48.95 MMT as against 48.56 MMT
during the preceding financial year of 2021-22. The cargo comprises 32% Liquid
Bulk including Petroleum Oil & Lubricants (POL) and Edible Oil (15.56 MMT), 58%
Containerized Cargo (28.38 MMT) and 10% Other Cargoes including Dry/Break Bulk
cargo (5.01 MMT)
