HOW TO USE
STEP 3 EXFOLIANTS 2% BHA LIQUID EXFOLIANT
How to use an exfoliant
Lightly soak a cotton pad and gently apply over the entire face and neck,
including the eye area (avoid lash line and eyelids). Do not rinse. At first,
apply every other day and note skin’s response. Then use up to twice daily. For
daytime, follow with a broad-spectrum sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater.
Start slowly: Apply every other day and note skin's response. Then use up to
twice daily. For daytime, always finish with a sunscreen rated SPF 30 or above.
For nighttime, follow with the rest of your routine.
Full routine
Here's a step-by-step of your morning & evening skincare application.
Step 1: Cleanser
Wet your face and apply a small amount with gentle, circular motions. Rinse
well. To remove heavy makeup, repeat or use with a clean, wet washcloth.
Step 2: Toner
With your fingertips or a cotton pad, gently apply over the face and neck. Do
not rinse.
Step 3 Exfoliants
Gently apply with your fingertips or a cotton pad over the face and neck,
including the eye area (avoid lash line and eyelids). Do not rinse. Start
slowly: Apply every other day and note your skin's response. Then use up to
twice daily.
Step 4 Treatments
Dispense a pearl-sized amount to your hand and apply once or twice daily to the
face, neck and eye area.
Step 5 Moisturisers
Use a day moisturiser as the last step in your morning skincare routine and
apply liberally at least 15 minutes before stepping into sun exposure. As
always, it's best to reapply every two hours once the skin has been exposed to
direct sunlight. For a night moisturiser, apply a small amount once or twice
daily to the face and neck.

I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS …
I wish I could give this more than 5 stars! I cannot describe how this has
changed my skin. I used to always break out on my cheeks (the fleshy part) and
on my chin; I gave up trying to treat them and came to a point where I just
accepted that it was hormonal; I began using strong concealers to cove...r up my
acne. This really bothered me because I have very good skin, I just always had 1
or 2 spots on each cheek and lots of spots right UNDER my chin which, thank
goodness, couldn't be seen but which I knew about. Anyway... I discovered that
the cheek spots were from bacteria and my chin spots were a result of plucking
at my chin hair with metal tweezers. Paula's Choice liquid exfoliant has treated
BOTH and I have had no spots whatsoever for the last 4 months. None. At the same
time, it has really evened out my skin tone and my acne scaring (which wasn't
too bad on my cheeks as I always got spots on the same place but was it quite
bad on my chin). They have really faded away. I also get redness where my acne
scars are, which is very noticeable after a shower, but as soon as I put Paula's
Choice on, after about 5-10 minutes, the redness completely dies down. I think
this might be down to the pearly sheen it leaves behind; I think it helps the
light reflect off the skin which gives the illusion of a cooler skin tone, I
really don't know but whatever it is, I am not complaining because it is better
than having to put make up on. I have stopped using foundation thanks to Paula's
Choice; I just don't need it anymore. The only downside is that I already have
dry skin and this makes it VERY dry because obviously it's an exfoliant so what
it does is, it dries out all the bacteria, pus and blackheads then all you see
is your skin flaking off and all the dirt coming to the surface. I like to
cleanse it away with Micellar water but I don't force the little flakes off and
let it fall by itself because trust me, you don't want to pick at your skin when
it is flaky. You will end up peeling off healthy skin which is not needed.
Remember, people do not see what you see as they never really get that close to
your face nor focus as much as you do. Let your skin shed off by itself. I
recently bought the gel version because people said it's just as good minus the
drying out. I have to disagree. Although the gel has kept the zits away, it
certainly isn't as strong as the liquid because I have seen no flaking/shedding
of skin. Also, it does not help reduce redness like the liquid version. Just my
opinion. Oh, and I also want to mention that my friends have messaged me
recently asking me what foundation I have used on my skin because it looks so
good, haha! I just wish it worked the same on everyone but after reading these
reviews, I have come to the conclusion that maybe it isn't for all skin types.
Nevertheless, I would recommend everybody to try and to be patient because it
took about a month for my skin to get used to this. The drying and tightness of
my skin almost put me off but I stuck it out and it was worth it. Your skin gets
used to it so it doesn't go as tight after a while and as for the dryness, I
think it is just a side effect of it drying out all the bacteria so it is worth
it. When you have a clean and beautifully even skin tone, you will get why I put
up with it. Can't have it all but a little moisturiser (with SPF) goes a long

I DON'T REALLY GET ALL TH…
I don't really get all the fuss - this hasn't done anything for my skin, but
does cause a hassle fitting it in to my routine. Been using this for a full
month, just mornings for the first week (v mild reaction which settled quickly)
then morning and evening - it is thick and oily (which I personally... quite
like) so you have to go and do something else for 15 mins or so while it
dries/sinks in - this is a pain! It makes my skin look temporarily tighter for a
few hours, but heck does it dry it out in order to do that - I have to use a lot
of moisturiser when using this, or my skin is dried out and crinkly by
lunchtime. I've seen no change in my congested chin, nose and other areas of
blocked pores. Disappointed - folks do love to talk of miracles and magic here,
and I've had congested skin for a long time - I really fell for it but sadly no
'miracle' results for me. Customer Care: Hi B! I'm sorry to hear that this
product was not a good fit for your skin. We understand that everyone's skin is
different and what works beautifully for some may not work well for others. This
Liquid Exfoliant is suitable for combination to oily skin. If you have normal or
dry skin you may find that this particular product is not hydrating enough for
you. A great alternative would be our Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant
which works to soften and hydrate the skin as well as exfoliate and unclog
congested pores. If you find that you have to wait 15 minutes for the product to
absorb into your skin it's possible that you're applying too much. This
exfoliant is lightweight and you don't need to wait for it to dry before
continuing with the rest of your routine. Please don't hesitate to reach out to

GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU START USING YOUR EXFOLIANT.
It is best to gradually build up use of a BHA product. Start by using your
exfoliant once every other day and then increase usage to once or twice daily
based on your skin’s response. You need to experiment a bit to see what suits
your skin best. During the day, always use a moisturiser with a broad-spectrum
sunscreen rated SPF 30 or greater. Your skin will in fact be slightly more
sensitive to sunlight when using an exfoliant, so the chance of sunburn and sun
damage is slightly higher.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2% BHA LIQUID AND THE 2% BHA GEL?
First, texture: One is a fluid with a toner-like consistency, the other is a
thicker, clear gel. Both contain the same amount of salicylic acid, though the
2% BHA Liquid contains an ingredient that allows the salicylic acid to penetrate
faster and further. With the 2% BHA Gel formula, you're getting a slower release
of salicylic acid. Both are great options for treating acne, blackheads, and
signs of ageing. Both are suitable for all skin types but best for normal to
oily or combination skin.
THE SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA LIQUID EXFOLIANT FEELS A BIT STICKY/GREASY ON MY
FACE. WHY IS THAT?
If the BHA is feeling sticky, you are probably using too much product. The
average amount needed is the size of a small coin, and it’s best to apply it in
a thin layer. The ‘greasy’ feel can be attributed to the high levels of glycol
in this product (glycol helps the BHA penetrate the surface layers of skin and
also works as a water-binding agent). If you live in a humid, moist climate,
this effect will be more pronounced and, if too much product is used, can create
a ‘greasy’ feel on the skin.
AT WHAT POINT AFTER MY LASER AND/OR PEEL PROCEDURE CAN I BEGIN USING MY BHA
EXFOLIANT AGAIN?
First, we urge you to follow the post-procedure instructions your doctor or
nurse provided. Otherwise, our general advice is to begin using your BHA again
as soon as possible. Or, if your skin seems extra-sensitive, you may want to
wait and apply the BHA exfoliant a few days post-procedure. Salicylic acid is an
excellent anti-inflammatory ingredient that can enhance the skin's natural
healing process as it works to reduce post-procedure redness.
