MAN UTD WOMEN'S BOSS MARC SKINNER SPEAKS OUT AFTER CLUB CANCEL END-OF-SEASON

 * Awards dinner still cancelled
 * Skinner says celebration will happen in future

 * WHAT HAPPENED?

   The controversial cancellation call comes after Skinner's side lifted the FA
   Cup trophy last Sunday with a 4-0 victory over Tottenham. Ella Toone and
   Rachel Williams both got on the scoresheet in the Wembley final, while Lucia
   Garcia bagged a second-half brace.

   THE BIGGER PICTURE

   The reason the awards dinner has been cancelled is due to the fact the men's
   team are currently preparing for their own FA Cup final against Manchester
   City on May 25. Skinner is understanding of the situation and knows his side
   will receive a celebration down the line after winning their first piece of
   silverware.

 * WHAT SKINNER SAID

   Skinner said, per the BBC: "I sit in a position of celebration rather than
   worrying about what has and hasn't happened. I understand the decision, I
   respect it and our girls will be presented at the appropriate time with the
   successes that a club will celebrate. I'm sure there will be [a celebration].
   We'll sit down and have meetings but I know the club have been meeting around
   that. I'm sure the girls will be absolutely recognised for the successes."
   On the Wembley triumph, he added: "It's been a long season so I want to live
   in this space and I want to live in the happiness that the players have given
   our fans. From our perspective, I know the club will give and support the
   players' successes and we'll be happy with that."

   WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED?

   United, who are in their fifth season in the Women's Super League, still have
   a major role to play in the title race despite an indifferent 2023/24
   top-flight campaign overall. Skinner's side host Chelsea in the final round
   of fixtures this weekend as the Blues seek to pip Manchester City to the
   crown. While the Red Devils won't like doing their noisy neighbours a big
   favour, victory over Chelsea could see United usurp Liverpool into fourth -
   provided the Reds lose away at Leicester the same day.
