A group of 30 House lawmakers is urging airlines to resume flights to Israel
despite the ongoing conflict in the region.

Led by Florida Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the lawmakers wrote to CEOs of
American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines on Friday asking them to
keep operations “flexible” in order “to assist with bringing Americans home.”



State Department-led charter flights, which were to began Friday to ferry
Americans to Athens and Frankfurt, “are not a long-term solution,” the lawmakers
said.

In a statement, Airlines for America said its carriers have been "voluntarily
adding capacity in the region throughout the week and continue to support the
federal government’s plan to assist in the movement of U.S. citizens.”

All three airlines, which paused flights to Israel’s Ben Gurion International
Airport in Tel Aviv through October at least, have increased flights from Athens
to New York area airports.

Delta said it continues to make schedule adjustments for the safety of both
customers and crew “while remaining committed to assisting those needing
travel.”
