I have done threads on nuts and bolts. I now want to creat a thread across a
flat serface, spiraling towards the centre.  there apears no tutorials on this
aspeck.  I'm not sure if im using the correct terms soI have attach a picture of
what I would like to achieve. The item in blue.  It's for a self centring chuck.

The answer in this probably only comes from some experience with DSM and
although there's all types of spirals in the new equation tool ( producing
curves to follow) , here's a simple way showing a few tools DSM has.

The trick to get a Spiral is to first make a tapered helix of the necessary
pitch at 45 deg taper.

Then, project this to a plane creating the path for a tooth profile to follow.

Thank you, a lot of trial and error to finally get it right took most of the day
and when I finally got it the spiral was lopsided. The sketch plane to draw the
spiral was not perpendicular to the rotation axis. So I'll try and get it right
this time.

It's gets much quicker the more you practice.

When i started using DSM, honestly it took too long for me to fully appreciate
the automatic perpendicularity of sketch planes or planes when a curve end (
especially splines and curve points within it to) is preselected.

One other very useful thing to know is that when in a sketch, if selecting any
line, with then a Plane cmd action, a plane, perpendicular ( to the sketch ) is
made...very useful.

The XYZ world origin is very useful reference to make planes, orient
object/faces to XYZ directions and you can measure any plane / line / face
easily to it.

Good luck.

An easier way... BY FAR !

Use the equations tool.

Curve type is Archimedes Spiral ( somehow 'Custom' has appeared!)

Leave values x,y and z as shown - the curve  is positioned at global zero /
world origin

Interval 't ' are the start and end positions in radians.

Parameter 'a' is the offset spacing (mm)

Ok I use the equation tool and I can create the spiral and Im stuck there. How
do I create the pull tool?

Thanks, Gary
