YOUR GPA?


So you want to get into med school, veterinary school, dentistry or a health
science program. You've taken class after class, you've guarded your GPA with
your life. You've done so much test prep for MCAT that it's possible your brain
might spontaneously combust. And now, just when you should be ready to tie up
your college application, you're facing one more test ..: the dreaded CASPer
test. You might be really nervous about this test, and who could blame you? 
It's a test unlike any other and there are is such little official guidance that
it's hard to know where to start with your test prep. 


Or maybe you're not. You might actually be thinking you don't need to worry
about it at all. Your GPA is okay. This test is just your own opinions with a
bit of basic common sense, right? There are no right and wrongs to this so
there's no need to do any prep. You might browse a few free sample questions,
maybe make some post-it notes but you're sure good to go.


The truth is that you don't need to be nervous IF you prepare properly. You may
have heard that you can't prep for this test, but that idea couldn't be further
from the truth.  It's such a dangerous position to take. You've come this far
but you're not there yet. In fact, even with a GPA over 3.81, you're still
missing 33% of a successful application. 


33% is the weight that admissions committees are typically assigning to the
CASPER test. Almost the same as your entire undergraduate GPA in many cases. 


With competition for seats getting tougher and tougher every year, your CASPER
test score will be the thing that determined whether you make it or not. It is
make or break. 


As an aside, you can go wrong in this test. In fact, you can go so wrong that
the rater may refuse to grade the rest of your paper. But extremes
notwithstanding, you are not being rated on what you think. You are being rated
on something totally prep-able. It's a test after all, with a rubric and a grade
and there are a set of strategies that work to help you score in the top
percentile.  Because your score is reported to your schools as a percentile, you
are essentially being compared against everyone else who took it in that cohort.
So it's a competition. If that's not reason enough to prep, then nothing is! 


There's a lot of stuff on the internet you could spend your time and money on.
But be careful. Some so-called practice tests look real enough, but have been
written by people who have no real knowledge of how this test works. All of our
practice test questions are modeled on actual past CASPer papers. My team and I
have statistically analysed each item and can guarantee that it measures exactly
what the real test is looking for, and NOTHING ELSE. 


 Other sites offer feedback. Feedback is essential. There are hundreds of
research papers that demonstrate the massive effect of feedback. It's the the
only way to get better, faster. But when the feedback is flawed or limited,
you've wasted precious time and you're no closer to success.  


I've found plenty of websites with Casper Tests where the "model" answers were:


 * Unrealistically long (given that you have 2.5 minutes per question)

 * Poorly focused on what actually gets you points in CASPer

 * Generic and not personal to you.  Unless a human expert takes the time to
   read your answers and respond to them personally, it will be hard to know
   whether what you write on the day will be enough to score the points you
   need. 


This last point is really important. Good test prep for the CASPer test should
also serve as good prep for your interview. You want to pick up examples and
answers you could adapt to use in both. My feedback service helps you discover

Time is precious and you can't afford to waste it on irrelevant examples and
poor advice. This test is deceptively hard. It doesn't measure what you think it

be the difference between getting accepted and getting rejected. In no real-life
situation would you ever only have two and a half minutes to justify in writing,
your entire moral framework.  


But that is what you have to do here. So make sure your framework totally aligns
with theirs. Make sure you can apply it to any scenario. And make sure you can
do it without thinking.
