DOCTOR SCAM ALERT II

THEY’RE AT IT AGAIN!

Doctor SCAM ALERT,

We have received several reports of attempts to extort money and/or sensitive
information out of MDs & DOs through the use of PHONE CALLS from the licensing
boards.

The medical boards DO NOT UTILIZE THESE TACTICS OF REQUESTING PERSONAL
INFORMATION OR DEMANDING MONEY FOR ANY ALLEGED VIOLATIONS OF UNPROFESSIONAL
CONDUCT.

DO NOT respond to these efforts and please report them to our Investigations
Department at:

or call

NEW EMERGENCY LICENSES

Due to the increased occurrences of CoVid-19 infections, on August 25, 2021,
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt enacted into law  Temporary Critical Need
Licensure Flexibility Emergency Rules

These rules allow for the issuance of Temporary Medical Doctor (MD), Physician
Assistant (PA), and Respiratory Care Practitioner (RC) licenses for current
holders of equivalent licenses in other U.S. States.  The out-of-state license
must be active and in good standing.  Applicants for Oklahoma Critical Need
licenses must fill out a short application form and complete an Extended
Background Check.  There is a $35 fee associated with the extended background
check, but no fee for the Oklahoma Critical Need application itself.

PA Critical Need applicants must also complete and submit a Form 5 - Physician
Assistant Delegating Practice Agreement with their application.

All Emergency Critical Need licenses will be valid for 180 days from day of
issuance, unless canceled by the Medical Board.

RESPONSE TIMES AND COVID

Your Message Has Been Received

We apologize that the Oklahoma Medical board is currently “work location”
compromised with the licensing staff due to the Pandemic. With the current
events, most of us are working from home and may not be able to answer our
phones in a timely manner. Please know and understand that we are working as
efficiently as we can. We want to get health professionals licensed and working
as fast as possible. Phone calls, snail mail and faxes can slow the licensing
process down considerably!

PLEASE USE EMAIL TO CORRESPOND WITH US. Emails ARE much faster and less
interruptive in the licensing process. PLEASE SCAN DOCUMENTS AND EMAIL TO US.
Every piece of mailed, faxed information or when dropped by the agency in person
is a slower process due to in-office scheduling.

We want you to come to Oklahoma to practice SO help us during this time to
protect the citizens of this state by helping us do our due diligence and prompt
licensure process BY USING EMAIL for all of your communication.

Please understand this agency processes an average of 2300 applications each
year and renews over 25,000 licensees annually. EMAILS are managed by the same
individuals who process licensure applications. Duplicate emails, phone calls
and faxes reduce the amount of time these individuals have to process YOUR
application. Please be assured that the information included with your EMAIL
will be collected and documented.

If the email submitted includes information pertaining to a pending application,
please be advised that updates to applications will be reflected on the * “Check
the Status of a Pending Application” portal at

https://secure.okmedicalboard.org/applicant/signin

*All applicants will receive a letter with their specific PIN to check their
application status on-line. The applicant should share their PIN with their
authorized contact person so that they can check the application online portal
as well. If an application has been submitted but you have not yet received a
PIN to check the application status, it is because the application is still
being processed. The PIN will be sent as soon as the checklist has been created.

The staff of the Oklahoma Medical Board appreciates your cooperation and
patience.

Lyle R. Kelsey, Director
Oklahoma Medical Board

PMP UTILIZATION MONITORED

* Prescription Monitoring Program – PMP: Failure to check PMP is grounds for
disciplinary action by the respective licensing board of each Prescriber. PMP
must be checked at the initial prescription and then at least every 180 days. 63
O.S. §2-309D(G)  For best practice, the PMP should be checked more frequently
than 180 days, but it is not required by 63 O.S. §2-309(D).

Chronic Pain Prescriptions: If continuing treatment for three months or more,
practitioner shall: (1) review every three (3) months the course of treatment,
any new information regarding etiology of pain and progress toward treatment
objectives; (2) assess patient prior to every renewal to determine if patient is
experiencing dependency and document assessment; (3) periodically make
reasonable efforts, unless clinically contraindicated to stop, decrease dosage,
or try other treatment modalities; (4) review PMP; (5) monitor compliance with
patient provider agreement, and state “chronic pain” on the face of the
prescription.

MEDICAL MARIJUANA ACT

What physicians need to know about Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Act

In June of 2018, Oklahoma voters approved medical marijuana through the passage
of State Question 788. The law allows qualifying patients to purchase and use
medical marijuana from a licensed dispensary if certain criteria are met.
Patients must provide a recommendation form signed by a physician. The following
provides guidance on physician registration and physician recommendations.
