Instruments, Illumina DRAGEN Server v3, Illumina DRAGEN Server v4, and VeriSeq
Onsite Server v2 RUO

 

Summary:
While conducting routine cybersecurity analysis, Illumina’s Product Security
Team identified an uncontrolled product security risk associated with the
communication protocol between Illumina’s products listed above and
customer-provided network storage, servers and/or computers. Illumina determined
that, if the secure protocols are not used, an unauthorized actor who has
already gained privileged access to the customer network could intercept and
exploit these communications.

If an unauthorized actor were to exploit this vulnerability, they potentially
could intercept and modify files, leading to incorrect results or corrupted
files to customer-provided network entity, and/or exposure of research subject
data in the transmitted files.

Illumina is providing Cybersecurity Guidance that includes recommendations on
how customers can secure their internal network’s communication with Illumina’s
product.

Failure to follow these instructions or implement network security best
practices to protect your systems could leave your organization exposed to the
risks described above.

As you read the notification, please note and read the linked Cybersecurity
Guidance Document.  This document includes an example of the encrypted Server
Message Block (SMB) versions that can be used as secure protocols in item 3 of
the  "Recommended Security Requirement" section.  Please also discuss required
configuration of your local storage to enable secure communications with your IT
team.
