Selma police were called to I-35 near Evans Road around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, when
a northbound tractor-trailer struck the concrete median and the base of a CPS
Energy pole and jackknifed, said Selma police spokesman Ken Roberts.

A second tractor-trailer then crashed into the first, Roberts said, and also
jackknifed, blocking the northbound lanes. The pole, meanwhile, twisted
precariously, threatening traffic on I-35 south.

“The pole was in danger of toppling over and dropping live wires on the
highway,” Roberts said, “so (the Texas Department of Transportation) decided to
close both directions of I-35.”

Neither driver sustained serious injuries.

A light pole was also struck by one of the vehicles, Roberts said, and fell into
the southbound lanes, according to CPS Energy spokesman John Moreno.
