More AGENDA THURSDAY, AUGUST 11 8:00 AM CENTRAL REGISTRATION AND MORNING REFRESHMENTS 9:00 AM CENTRAL OPENING REMARKS Tarek Tomes, Commissioner and Chief Information Officer, MNIT Services, State of Minnesota 9:10 AM CENTRAL KEYNOTE – MASTER YOUR WORLD! Leadership is a lot simpler when circumstances are easy. But we are not living in easy times. Global and local issues challenge us daily. Maintaining focus – and our teams’ focus – is a constant struggle. Regardless of our titles or positions, we need to find ways to inspire those around us to be supportive, communicative, and productive. To be at the top of your game requires accurately and actively assessing both strengths and blind spots. This timely keynote address, by renowned leadership coach and author Mary Kelly, provides actionable takeaways for mastering your world during extraordinary times. Mary Kelly, PhD, Former Commander, US Navy 10:10 AM CENTRAL BITS & BYTES - THE SMART FUTURE IS HERE The concept of smart communities (and smart government in general) has been around for some time, but exponential progress has been made within the last few years. Technology drivers such as connectivity, networks, cloud, IoT, AI, big data, et al. have pushed us to the next level and the future is bright! This session will highlight innovative smart community endeavors happening in Minnesota. 10:30 AM CENTRAL NETWORKING BREAK 11:00 AM CENTRAL CONCURRENT SESSIONS WHY CYBERSECURITY INCIDENT RESPONSE SHOULD BE IMPORTANT TO YOU The cyber landscape is constantly shifting and strategies to manage incident response are evolving rapidly. Threats are growing exponentially, and cyber skill sets are not keeping up. How will governments fight this battle without the right tools and training? This session looks at current and future trends impacting incident response and the people needed to get the job done. THE CONSTITUENT EXPERIENCE OF TOMORROW People are accustomed to a certain level of ease and convenience when it comes to buying and receiving goods and services – typically through a click of a button on their smartphones. In this fast-changing world, with soaring pressures to be customer-centric, how can government keep up? This session deep dives the need to manage evolving expectations that will affect the future of government services, and what it takes to deliver these services to ensure the community thrives into the future. AUTOMATION IS CHANGING THE GAME Experts have forecasted that 75% of governments will have multiple enterprise-wide automation initiatives underway by 2024. This reality cannot be ignored as technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) impact the work governments do every day for the people they serve. This session delves into the processes and strategies to use emerging technologies – ethically - that empower humans to better utilize their skills to focus on higher-value activities. 12:00 PM CENTRAL LUNCH 1:00 PM CENTRAL CONCURRENT SESSIONS DRIVING DECISIONS WITH INTELLIGENT DATA Data is everywhere and it is being pressed into service in ways that none of us could have imagined just a few years ago. Such a valuable commodity deserves to be leveraged to its fullest benefit. How will you govern and use data to make tough decisions and serve your constituents? This session discusses where we might be falling short, with ways to overcome the challenges and risks inherent in pushing the data envelope. THE PARADOX OF THE NEW WORKFORCE Does your team have all the personnel and skills you could ever desire? Do you feel unequivocally sure that you can attract and retain the talent you need going forward? If you answered yes to both questions… well… no one will believe you. In the post-pandemic era, workforce issues rival cybersecurity as the #1 source of anxiety and lost sleep. But there’s hope! This session provokes thoughts, spurs ideas, and builds confidence in how to find and retain talent and develop organizational culture in the years to come. NEXT LEVEL DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION Embracing change means getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. Digital transformation is a particularly difficult and complex journey. Technologies are shifting on a moment’s notice with new innovative ways to get the job done. This session will illustrate the need to use the cloud, low-code no-code development, and a platform approach to technology to help governments build towards the future.
