LAWS LIKE THIS DON’T WORK

The Democrats in Denver once again are defying the Constitution. They are
attempting to ban law abiding citizens from carrying a defensive firearm in
“sensitive areas” such as parks and churches.

Schools are the most sensitive of sensitive areas, and it’s against the law to
have a firearm in a school. Those “gun free zone” laws couldn’t stop Columbine,
Sandy Hook, Parkland and Uvalde because criminals don’t follow the law! They
kill in sensitive areas because they know they won’t face armed resistance, and
they can kill more. Make murder against the law and that would stop murders,
right? It is apparent that laws like this don’t work and violate our freedom.




Why are the Democrats ignoring their oath of office to propose these gun bans?
Because many of them are bought and paid for by radical New York billionaire
anti-gunner Michael Bloomberg. This hypocrite spends his family fortune trying
to disarm law-abiding Americans while having an army of heavily armed bodyguards
protecting him. It is pathetic that the Democrats in Denver take their orders
from Bloomberg instead of the good people of Colorado.



This unconstitutional gun control effort might not matter to you. Maybe you
don’t own a gun. If the radical left can go after this freedom, it’s a matter of
time before they assail a right that you do care about. The time stand against
leftist tyranny is now. Make your voice heard at the Capitol. Our freedom
depends on it.

I write this in response to Lee Peterson’s letter Wednesday titled, “For those
extending a welcome mat”.



We have a humanitarian crisis at our border; we know that. What does it take for
someone to leave everything they know to embark on a hazardous journey north?
Desperation is needed to venture through unknown hazardous territory facing
gangs, drug cartels, rapists, rushing rivers, razor wire, etc. We have accepted
people from war-torn areas, i.e.: Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Why aren’t we accepting these people also living in areas without safety or with
continuing violence? Why shouldn’t we give them safety until their country can
be made safe, and why aren’t we pushing for peace in their country? Aren’t we
part of the problem because of some Americans’ illegal drug habit?



Peterson says, “… there are many U.S. citizens that are less fortunate and
should be our first priority lest we deplete our limited resources.” There are
safety nets in place in the states for food, housing, health care, etc. Contact
El Paso County offices and they will be happy to provide a list of resources in
Colorado Springs and outlying areas. Everyone can also do their part whether
it’s in donation of money, time or goods. I’ve met a former homeless man that
volunteers at a food bank.

There is a great organization that sponsors immigrants. It’s Lutheran Family
Services. They have the knowledge to help people with necessary paper work,
finding employment, finding housing and providing welcome. Asking people to just
open their homes to migrants or immigrants is not a viable solution. Legally, I
would need 2-3 bedrooms for a family, and I haven’t the space or even the
knowledge of what paperwork is required.

Some points: I do not believe in ‘open borders’. Everyone coming needs to be
vetted. Children should not be separated from their parents. People should not
be tear-gassed to turn them back. Remember there are a lot of kids involved. To
apply for asylum in a country, you must be in that country. This is why people
come illegally. You can not go to a consulate or embassy to apply. Immigration
needs to be fixed. Only Congress can fix it. The president can give an executive
order but not to fix immigration.

THE MODERN SLAVE TRADE

What compels a person to leave their home country for the U.S.? Various reasons.

It is word of mouth, primarily, fueled heavily by the powerful cartels that
control our borders and traffic illegal immigrants.

In many countries, and Latin America is a prime example, most people do not
subscribe to newspapers or cable news channels. Their information is from the
grapevine, word of mouth, gossip.

People are sold a picture of an America with benefits that exceed what they
experience by cartels that have a great deal to gain by assisting them to that
“American dream.” It carries a powerful force.

If the person intending to leave cannot afford to pay the cartel, no problem.
The cartel tells them that when they get a job in the U.S., they can pay the
cartel back. This is why people will often refer to moving immigrants north as
the modern slave trade. Trafficking and exploitation doesn’t end at the border.
There’s a commodification of people underway.

There are charitable and government entities that help convey a caring and
pleasant notion of America. It benefits the organizations by attracting
donations and taxpayer funding, which in turn legitimizes the organizations’
continued existence. They tell themselves that they are being compassionate. In
reality, they are misguided and not compassionate; rather they ignore U.S. law
to feel virtuous.



Some persons considering leaving their home are fleeing the law or personal
problems. Some are young and seeking new adventures. They have cellphones and
send photos home and money to family left behind, which further fuels the
grapevine.



Not everyone entering the U.S. illegally can be considered poor. For them it’s a
shortcut around legal entry which could take months or years.

Finally, some can be considered to have ill intent and be terrorists, leaving
their homes to create serious havoc.
