Fans of other VTTs will say things like "I don't like the MapTool UI so I'm going to write macros and modules for Roll20, Foundry, Fantasy Grounds etc instead.". The MapTool interface becomes irrelevant once you start playing as you will be primarily interacting with The MacroPolicebox. Going with a different VTT is fine as long as large amounts of automation is not something you are interested in. Those are good systems but it is highly unlikely any will be able to catch up to what I have accomplished (see Feature List) with MapTool. Nevertheless I have been watching their progress with keen interest. Our Foundry friends have been trying to automate things for years now and are still mired in getting rudimentary functions to work. In late October 2012, the next stage of MPB evolution was released on this site a little over 10 months after its v1.0 premiere. The only new site content at the time was the suite of SR training videos. The documentation for new and changed features was completed in late November 2012. Since then I have been updating the site as functionality changes and new features get added. REGISTRATION (PLEASE READ!) JUST REGISTER AN ACCOUNT USING THE "CREATE" LINK AT BOTTOM RIGHT, WAIT FOR ME TO SEND YOU A CONFIRMATION E-MAIL (AUTOMATED REGISTRATION NO LONGER WORKS) AND THEN LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE LOGGING IN. IT'S FREE AND EASY! REGISTRATION IS NECESSARY FOR TRACKING HOW MANY USERS ARE DOWNLOADING THE CODE. IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT YOUR ADDRESS WILL NOT BE SOLD TO SPAMMERS. IT IS USED FOR ACCOUNT ACTIVATION PURPOSES ONLY. Please log in ASAP or your account will be removed after a week or so. You will know this if it disappears from the list on the right side of this page. If this happens then you are free to create another account with the same login condition. Deletion of non-activated accounts is necessary to control spam robots. At the very least, please reply to my welcome email. Thanks for your cooperation! WHAT'S NEW? Naturally, this is the main question when any new software product is released. Let's start with the obvious. Those from the beginning will know the full framework name was originally "The MacroPolicebox: Rumble Edition". This has now been changed to "The MacroPolicebox: Second Regeneration". Aside from being just plain boring, the reason I didn't call it Version 2.0 is two-fold. The "Rumble Edition" part was dropped because that framework is obsolete and no longer needed for token creation. The legacy migration path has been retained for Rumble users making the switch. Also, the MPB contains absolutely zero Rumble code so it was misleading on that level as well. Secondly (if you'll pardon the expression!), "Second Regeneration" is more in keeping with the underlying Doctor Who theme. I thought of code-naming it "Troughton Edition" but figured non-DW fans would find that too esoteric! Speaking of themes, the central mission of the MPB:SR is to make the transference from source text (adventure PDFs, Compendium, rulebook PDFs etc) to MapTool as seamless and effortless as possible. Rumble and JamesManhattan did some pioneering (but buggy) work in this regard. This worked reasonably well but a significant amount of manual coding was still required. DMs needed far more powerful tools to process and automate the source text. Because of this, I decided on a bold theme for my work: "IMPORT ANYTHING" For the most part, I believe the MPB:SR has realized this lofty goal. You will no doubt agree the biggest headache with using MapTool is the transformation of static adventure text into usable tokens. The basic "engine", if you will, is in place to get the user started in capturing just about every game element from the source text. You name it, the MPB:SR can import it … within reason, of course! It isn't perfect but I am continually striving to improve the heuristic algorithms which process the text into MT script code so fewer manual adjustments are necessary. New videos and Programmer's Reference articles will supplement these code improvements. Other than a number of fixes made to the v1.2 code base, the full list of new features can be found here. I want to thank all my users for their support and hope the MPB continues to serve your D&D 4e needs. As always, all I ask in return are bug reports and usability feedback so I can continue to improve the code. Happy gaming to you … StarMan ORIGINAL GREETING What follows is the initial welcome adjusted for recent developments: Greetings and welcome to StarMan's website for the MacroPolicebox framework (henceforth known as the MPB)! Here you will find everything you need to craft a truly unique and exciting experience playing Dungeons And Dragons 4th Edition under MapTool. There are plenty of demonstration videos and documentation to help get you up and running quickly. In case you are wondering, "StarMan" is the arbitrary ID I picked for participating on the MapTool forums. In fact, it is fitting this site was launched on the "21"st day of the "12"th month of 2011. All you Rush fans out there know where I'm going with this but the rest are likely scratching their heads! ;o) Note that this site and opinions expressed therein are my own and not affiliated with RPTools.net or Wizards of the Coast in any way. Nevertheless, thanks go to these companies for their excellent work. No profit is being made here and no donations are expected. I am doing this for the sheer enjoyment of the game and desire to share that enthusiasm with others. If you are on the fence regarding whether one little blue token can outperform all the other 4e frameworks available, your skepticism is understandable. Just remember that much like one other police box we know, this one is "much bigger on the inside than on the outside."! ;o) DEDICATION This site is gratefully dedicated to the best gaming groups a guy could ask for.
