GAMING IMPROVES REACTION TIME AND CRITICAL THINKING It isn’t just your physical health that can be improved by gaming. Games have been proven to aid in the development of reaction time and improve your critical thinking skills. Some developmental specialists are even suggesting games be played with your children to help improve these skills as they grow. Puzzle games have been a popular genre in the gaming world for years. Nintendo even took a swing at making games designed to help improve cognition in the form of brain training. A game series that was so successful it was used to help treat those with dementia. Reaction-based games such as Beat Saber are great ways to improve hand-eye coordination. They are a great way to help rebuild motor control. GAMES CAN HELP COMBAT MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES Awareness of mental health issues has been moved into the public eye more than ever before. No longer do we as a society simply write off these issues. We know now that these illnesses can be devastating and require the same care and attention as regular physical ailments. As our awareness has grown we have also found new and innovative ways to help people combat these issues. And one of the more successful methods being employed is the use of video games. That’s right, gaming is being used by therapists and mental health specialists to help combat depression, anxiety, and PTSD. For a few key reasons. Firstly, gaming is a form of escapism that lets people take a break from the harsh realities of the real world. It lets people unwind and relax. Some more relaxing games are being used to help people who suffer from PTSD by letting them engage in immersion therapy. Moving around VR tranquil landscapes or letting them work through their issues in a safe environment. For anxiety, the social aspect of gaming has been massively helpful. But overall, as gaming moved into the mainstream it slowly became more accessible. And the knock-on effect of this is the great sense of achievement that comes with beating a game. A boost in personal confidence is great for your health. It released endorphins that improve your mood and motivate you. Every day, someone else is diagnosed with insomnia and are prescribed sleeping pills. It is believed that there are a number of reasons why so many people are struggling to fall asleep at night. For example, we are the most technologically advanced generation to ever live. Though this has a lot of benefits, it also comes with a lot of problems. The technology that we use is usually backlit with a blue light. It is also very common for us to watch tv or scroll on our phones, which interrupts our ability to sleep. As well as being the most technologically advanced generation, we are also the most anxious generation, which means that people find it incredibly hard to sleep at night due to worry. Though it can be hard to put our phones down, there are some things that you can do to make it much easier. For example, you can lock your phone away in a drawer until the morning, as this will make it far less likely for you to reach your phone. Instead of using your phone before bed, you can find another alternative for entertainment. A common method used by people that sleep well is reading a book before bed. This is a great way to help yourself sleep as you will not be exposed to any blue light and your eyes will get tired much faster, due to the concentration you have to put into the words. LAVENDER SPRAY Another popular method used by people with poor sleeping habits is lavender spray. Studies show that lavender naturally calms the body, which is great if you are someone that struggles to get to sleep at night. It is very common for people to spray lavender spray on their pillows, as when they put their heads on the pillow, it helps them drift off to sleep. A lot of companies out there also offer a large range of products that can be used to help you sleep at night.
