How can I activate VW Connect & We Connect?

You can activate VW Connect or We Connect in six easy steps. 

1. Download the Volkswagen App

 * Download the free Volkswagen app in the App Store or Google Play Store. This
   is available for Apple and Android smartphones.

2. Set up Volkswagen ID

Get access to the world of Volkswagen online services.

 * Open the Volkswagen app. 👆If you already have a Volkswagen ID, log in with
   this and continue from step 3 (add vehicle).
 * If you don‘t yet have a Volkswagen ID: Select “Register” and enter your email
   address and a password you selected.
 * Then follow the steps in the app. 

3. Add vehicle

In the app, use the vehicle identification number (FIN) to add your vehicle to
your Volkswagen ID user account.

 * Navigate to the menu option “Add vehicle” in the Volkswagen app.
 * Now add your vehicle to the user account using the VIN scanner or manual VIN
   entry. You’ll find the VIN behind the windscreen of your vehicle or in the
   vehicle registration document. 

4. Complete use account

The Volkswagen app will now guide you through all necessary steps to complete
your own user account. 

 * Confirm VW Connect or We Connect access to the personal data stored in your
   Volkswagen ID user account. Consent may revoked at any time in your
   Volkswagen ID user account.
 * Select your country of residence. Agree to the General Terms and Conditions
   for the mobile online service and acknowledge the Privacy Policy for the
   online services.
 * You can now complete your user account in a few steps. Enter your first name
   and surname and a nickname.
 * Select a 4-digit security PIN (S-PIN) to keep your user account protected.
   You are required to enter your PIN to use security-related services.

5. Order a service package

 * You will now be shown the service packages available for your vehicle.
 * As a result of clicking “Order for free” and consenting to the General Terms
   and Conditions for the selected packages and acknowledging the Privacy Policy
   for mobile online services, a separate contract with Volkswagen AG on the use
   of the selected service packages shall subsequently enter into force. Once
   the initial free contract period has expired, VW Connect Plus / We Connect
   Plus can be renewed for a fee.
 * Depending on the vehicle, you can also consent to your usage data being used
   in anonymiszed form for the purposes of improving the services.

6. Primary user verification in the vehicle

We’d like to ensure that only you within the meaning of the agreed General Terms
and Conditions of VW Connect or We Connect are the authoriszed user and have
digital access to your vehicle. To activate the services, you must therefore
verify yourself as a primary user. 

Depending on the vehicle model and infotainment system, this either takes place
with a code to scan (A), your two vehicle keys (B) or the input of an activation
code (C). Follow the further instructions in the app.


👆Please ensure that the globe symbol in the infotainment system is not greyed
out and you are it is therefore not in offline mode or the maximum privacy
settings.
 

A) Activation by scanning a code in the vehicle

 * In your vehicle’s infotainment system, please select „Users“ → „Other“ → „+“
   → „Log in“.
 * Scan the code shown in your vehicle’s infotainment system with your
   smartphone by tapping the „Scan Code“ button in the Volkswagen app.
 * You have now completed registration and can take advantage of the benefits of
   the online services.

B) Activation with your two vehicle keys

 * Approach your vehicle with your two vehicle keys.
 * Log into your infotainment system under „Menu“→ „Users“ with your Volkswagen
   ID and select within „Settings“→ „Become primary user“.
 * Follow the steps show in the infotainment system. Press the unlock buttons on
   your two keys quickly one after the other. Do not hold them down. While doing
   this, please do not start the engine.
 * You have now completed registration and can take advantage of the benefits of
   the online services.

C) Activation via entering an activation code in the vehicle

 * Take note of the activation code displayed in the Volkswagen app and go to
   your 
 * Log into your infotainment system under „Menu“→ „Settings“ →„We Connect“
   resp. „VW Connect“.
 * Enter the activation code from the app and click „Continue“.

You have now completed registration and can take advantage of the benefits of

Are all the familiar functions of the We Connect app available in the Volkswagen
app?

Most of the functions you know from the We Connect app have been integrated into
the Volkswagen app. Further functions will be added on an ongoing basis.

Why has the We Connect app been switched off and the Volkswagen app been
introduced?

In the past, there were two different apps for Volkswagen's mobile online
services (We Connect App and Volkswagen App). The Volkswagen app is based on a
future-proof architecture and has a more modern design.  

This makes the Volkswagen app the new control center for mobile online services
for all Volkswagens. Unification allows us to deploy new features and improve
existing ones faster and across generations of vehicles.

How can I update the maps of my navigation system?

With the "Online Map Update" service from VW Connect Plus, We Connect Plus or
Car-Net Guide & Inform Plus, the maps of the infotainment system can be
conveniently updated via the internet. If you are not sure whether your
Volkswagen has one of these services, you can use the compability check.

 

VW Connect/ We Connect: If your Volkswagen has VW Connect Plus or We Connect
Plus service package with a valid license, the card data will be automatically
updated in the background if new data is available.

 

Car-Net: If your Volkswagen is equipped with Car-Net Guide & Inform Plus service
package and with a valid license, you will automatically be informed of new
available card data. You may select the desired updates from a list to install
in your Volkswagen. In order to do this, you must provide a data connection
(e.g. via tethering).

 

Vehicles without the "Online Map Update" service: Many infotainment systems have
the option of manually updating map data via a storage medium. If you visit
myVolkswagen click on user icon in the upper right corner for finding “More
Topics” and to select the tab “Map Updates”. Please click "Go to Download
Center" and select your Volkswagen, model year and navigation system in order to
see the map update that is suitable for your Volkswagen.

How much do Upgrade features cost?

The prices for Upgrades may vary depending on functions and vehicle. The
corresponding costs for the vehicle registered with VW Connect (We Connect) can
be viewed in the Volkswagen Connect Shop, as well as in the In-Car Shop ("Shop"
tile in the Infotainment system [availability model dependend]).

Please note that it is necessary to log in to the shop with your Volkswagen ID.

What are Upgrades?

With Upgrades, depending on the model and equipment, it is possible to
subsequently activate functions in the vehicle for a fee by the main user via
the Volkswagen Connect Shop or the In-Car Shop (availability depending on model)
of the vehicle. On some models, it is possible to test the feature via a free
trial month.

Please note that it is necessary to log in to the shop with your Volkswagen ID.

How can I check if I have the latest navigation maps?

If your vehicle has "Online Map Update" service as part of VW Connect Plus, We
Connect Plus or Car-Net Guide & Inform Plus, your vehicle will automatically be
provided with the latest maps when an update is available. Any check is not
necessary.

 

For vehicles with VW Connect Plus or We Connect Plus, the update is carried out
in the background, while for vehicles with Car-Net Guide & Inform Plus, an
active notification of new maps is issued. Please note that an internet
connection is required. 

 

You may view the status of the map material in the system information of your
vehicle's infotainment system.

 

If you are not sure whether your Volkswagen is provided with one of these

How can I retrofit App-Connect?

For newer vehicles from model year 2016 onwards, App-Connect can be retrofitted
at a charge by activating it at a Volkswagen partner. For some of the newer
vehicles, it is also possible to retrofit the function via Upgrades. If you have
any questions about retrofitting and costs, please contact your Volkswagen
dealer.

What maps can I download from myVolkswagen?

After selecting your vehicle (please note the model year) and your existing
navigation device, you will be shown country packages that are available for
download. When displaying the various packages, the included countries are also
listed.

What features are available via Upgrades?

All Upgrades available for your vehicle can be viewed in the Volkswagen Connect
Shop or in the In-Car Shop (tile "Shop" in the infotainment system [availability
depending on model]). Please note that it is necessary to log in to the shop
