Technical Overview of DPUs with VMware Cloud Foundation and vSAN ESA

This session discusses two foundational technologies in a modern hyperconverged
infrastructure (HCI): networking with DPUs and petabyte-scale HCI storage. We
will start with a look at the transformative potential of DPU-based acceleration
for networking and security. You will understand how VMware Cloud Foundation
benefits from SmartNICs--network interface cards furnished with a discrete data
processing unit (DPU). These benefits encompass accelerated network performance,
reduced costs, improved security, and enhanced observability. Next, we will
provide a technical overview of VMware vSAN's Express Storage Architecture
(ESA). vSAN ESA enables better performance and resilience while optimizing
capacity consumption.

vSphere and AMD DPUs: A Software-Defined Hardware-Accelerated Data Center

AMD Representative

VMware is moving key infrastructure functions such as
networking/security/storage off of the x86 complex, where they contend with
applications for expensive CPU server resources, and accelerating them in
domain-specific hardware. AMD Pensando is collaborating with VMW to integrate
their technologies with the AMD DPU - an industry leading and groundbreaking
fully-programmable PCIe adapter. Pensando’s leadership in providing cloud-like
agility, security and operational simplicity is ideally suited for partnering
with VMW in its next phase of redefining hybrid cloud services. As application
resource demands continue to grow, VMW takes advantage of the DPU to offload the
