If you squint, it’s possible to see a world after the Ukraine war swimming into
view. The Russian advance has largely stalled, according to the Pentagon.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday that peace talks are
becoming “more realistic.” Has Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war reached a
turning point?

One of the world’s leading Russia-watchers, Angela Stent, offered a rundown on
the situation. Her takeaways:

Stent is a professor at Georgetown University and a senior fellow at the
Brookings Institution. She was formerly a national intelligence officer for
Russia and Eurasia at the National Intelligence Council. Her latest book is
Putin’s World: Russia Against the Rest and With the West. She spoke by phone on
