We are seeking a Senior Treaty Underwriter or Junior Treaty underwriter to join
a leading insurer. You will play a critical role in assessing, analyzing, and
underwriting treaty reinsurance contracts for the assigned countries in Asia.
Your primary responsibility will be to evaluate risk exposure, pricing, and
profitability in order to make informed underwriting decisions. The ideal
candidate will possess a strong background in insurance underwriting, excellent
analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced
environment. Responsibilities: Underwriting Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis
of treaty reinsurance submissions, including policy terms, conditions, and
coverage details, to determine risk exposure and underwriting guidelines. Risk
Assessment: Evaluate risk factors, loss history, and financial stability of
ceding companies to assess potential risks and determine appropriate pricing and
terms for treaty reinsurance contracts. Underwriting Decisions: Make informed
underwriting decisions by applying sound judgment, industry knowledge, and
analytical skills to ensure profitability while maintaining a balanced
portfolio. Pricing and Rate Determination: Develop pricing strategies and
establish appropriate rates for treaty reinsurance contracts based on risk
assessment, market conditions, and company guidelines. Negotiation: Collaborate
with brokers and clients to negotiate treaty terms, conditions, and pricing,
ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines and profitability targets.
Portfolio Management: Monitor the performance of the treaty portfolio, identify
trends, and recommend adjustments to mitigate risk and optimize profitability.
Relationship Management: Foster and maintain strong relationships with brokers,
clients, and other stakeholders to enhance business opportunities and promote
the company's reputation. Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with
regulatory requirements, company policies, and underwriting guidelines. Maintain
accurate and up-to-date underwriting documentation and records. Collaboration
and Support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as claims, finance,
and legal departments, to provide underwriting support and facilitate efficient

Marine Cargo Underwriter

Overall Objective: The prudent underwriting of quality business in line with the
business plan to facilitate maximum return of profit while maintaining the
firm’s reputation and integrity, demonstrating care for customers and respect
for the regulatory obligations of the firm. Specific Responsibilities:
UNDERWRITING 1. Underwrite relevant risks, (foreign book renewals and syndicate
lead business when required) exercising judgement in all underwriting matters,
and remain aware of own underwriting limits as set out on the Binding Authority
Agreement, all in accordance with Underwriting business plan; 2. Focus on
expanding marine cargo business and project cargo risk products 3. Conduct and
develop effective relationships within Lloyd’s, both with peers and with
Brokers, with a view to securing new business that falls within the Munich Re
Syndicate portfolio, specifically the risks underwritten by your team.
MANAGEMENT REPORTING 4. Support Class underwriter in London and Asia head on ad
hoc reports and business plans 5. Provide Analytical Support as follows: 
Monitor underwriting performance. As a minimum, this includes; gross/net
premium, claims paid/outstanding/incurred and loss ratio  Assess and report on
underwriting market conditions and the likely impact to the current business
plan  Ensure that Written/Anticipated premium is in line with Booked premium.
COMPLIANCE 6. Ensure that company procedures and systems are followed and
maintained, as per procedures and compliance manuals. 7. Ensure that
underwriting takes place within the agreed authority criteria, otherwise to
obtain authorisation from the Class underwriter in London. 8. Ensure that all
contract certainty issues are addressed for all relevant risks; 9. Ensure that
all rules and regulations, as prescribed by the MAS and Lloyd’s are complied
with, especially those relating to the underwriting function. ADMINISTRATION 10.
Review slips and/or other information/literature, exercising own judgment to
ensure the Cargo and Project accounts remain within Underwriting business plan
and adheres to authority limits. 11. Perform an independent and objective peer
review function for other underwriting classes; 12. To liaise with and provide
assistance (when required) to Finance department in respect of credit control,
to ensure the timely recovery of premiums due and outstanding   Knowledge
Required: 1. Strong knowledge and understanding of:  Underwriting a marine
cargo account, including applicable risks, wordings, and clauses  Marine Hull
and Liability risks (specifically relating to cargo)  Insurance Legal
Principles;  MAS and Lloyd’s rules and regulations including contract certainty
issues;  All company specific procedures that relate to own role and role of
those employees that you are supervising; 2. Demonstrate clear understanding of
the roles of colleagues and their relationships to the structure and business
plans of the Company 3. Develop and maintain market awareness; 4. Willingness to
continue to develop knowledge of products, underwriting and related issues
through formal and informal learning, both internally and externally to the
firm. 5. Be aware of the potential risks facing the business within own job role
and the controls that are in place to mitigate them; and report all significant
changes in these risks, or the effectiveness of controls, to your line manager
in a timely manner. 6. Willingness to travel occasionally.
