Last week, landlord advocacy organizations and lobbyists, including In It Together, the East Bay Rental Housing Association, and the Business and Housing Network, demonstrated outside of an Oakland City Council meeting to demand an immediate end to the pandemic-era eviction moratorium and just cause eviction laws. At the rally and during the council meeting’s public comment period, self-identified landlords repeatedly claimed that the eviction restrictions were a matter of social justice, but in a different way than one might expect.
