interacted with by a user of this server. # About Lemmy.zip Lemmy.zip is a Lemmy
server aimed at welcoming all and providing a space for all types of topics and
discussions, with maybe a slant towards technology and all things related. We
are one of the many servers hosting the Lemmy software. # Quick Start Guide ## -
Feed Your feed may look relatively empty when you first join, with just the
Lemmy.zip posts available. This is because by default your view is set to
"Local". You can use the options at the top of your feed to see more posts. -
"Subscribed" will show you the communities you have subscribed to. - "Local"
will show just posts from communities that are local to Lemmy.zip. - "All" will
show posts from all communities that have been subscribed to by members of
Lemmy.zip from across all servers. You can also sort your feed by different
options, such as "Active", "Hot", and "New". I fully recommend "Hot" for a good
turnover of posts in your feed. You can set the default Sort and Type in your
user settings to your taste. ## - NSFW We are now a NSFW enabled instance, which
means there may be NSFW content in the `Local` and `All` categories if you leave
NSFW enabled in your account. If you do not wish to view NSFW content make sure
you toggle off `Show NSFW content` under your Settings. Another option is to
select “Block Community” from the sidebar, when on the specific community. Once
you have done that you will never see it again! ## - Searching In the top menu,
you’ll see the search icon. There, you can search for posts, communities etc.
You can just enter a search-word and it will find the Post-titles, post-content,
communities etc containing that word that the server knows of. So any content
any user of this server ever interacted with. You can also search for a
community by it’s link, e.g. `!lemmy@lemmy.ml` or its URL, e.g.
`https://lemmy@lemmy.ml`. Even if the server hasn’t ever seen that community, it
will look it up remotely. Sometimes it takes some time for it to fetch the info
(and displays ‘No results’ meanwhile…) so just be patient and search a second
time after a few seconds. Please note search time may be increase if remote
servers are experiencing high loads. For a more in depth list of remote
communities, visit https://browse.feddit.de. From there you can copy your chosen
communities URL and search for it in Lemmy.zip. ## - Communities You can
subscribe to any community on another server and post/comment on that server,
all from this instance. Once you've subscribed, this server will continue to
pull the latest content from that community through to here. The subscribe
button is on the top right of the community. Click this will federate Lemmy.zip
with that community. You can create a community on this server too (there is no
restriction on creating communities on Lemmy.zip, unlike some other instances)

STARFIELD’S RADIANT ENCOUNTER SYSTEM POPULATES PLANETS WITH LOCATIONS & QUESTS
Some of us might be familiar with the radiant quest and encounter systems from
Skyrim and Fallout, and that design is being expanded in Starfield to populate
planets with locations and quests. In Skyrim, radiant encounters were triggered
at certain spawn points throughout the map, and were limited to NPC encounters.
The random groups of Stormcloaks or Imperials hauling a prisoner along, an [old
Orc who wishes to die in battle](https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Old_Orc), and
M'aiq the Liar are all examples of these NPC random encounters. There's also a
radiant quest system that will choose among a set of locations, prioritizing
unvisited locations, for the destination of certain quests (eg. the bounties
that innkeepers, Jarls, or stewards could tell you about). According to Will
Shen (Lead Quest Designer) in [this video](https://youtu.be/SloHMrl9WxY?t=51),
they have new tech that will take entire locations and place them on planets,
and integrate these locations into dynamic quests. For example, you might
discover an outpost where an NPC got kidnapped and the people at the outpost
will tell you where the kidnappers might have gone. Will says, "So, it is a
dynamically placed settlement that is taking you to a dynamically placed dungeon
as you're walking through the planet." We can see an example of this in the
Starfield Showcase from this week! These two players are in the same location on
a planet - the mountains and lake are the same - but [this player sees some kind
of natural feature](https://i.imgur.com/cEB5eHH.png) and [this player sees a
base or structure](https://i.imgur.com/ovdGuB3.png). I think this feels like a
natural extension of the radiant system from previous games, and it makes me
wonder about a couple things: are spawn points in hand-picked locations across
planets, or are they generated at a certain distance away from wherever you land
on a planet? How many random locations have they created? Are we going to see
repeat locations across planets during one playthrough, or would we only start
to see repetition on a second playthrough? I'd love to hear your thoughts and
theories about this too!

HOW WILL YOU COLONIZE THE GALAXY?
I'll preface this by saying I actually really liked the basebuilding mechanics
in Fallout 4, and always built my settlements up to the standards and connected
them in a sensible way. It felt like bringing a bit of life and something of
your own to the world! So, I've been thinking about how to go about settling
interesting planets we might come across. Will you build on planets with
settlements already on them (if that's possible?), or will you search for your
"own" planet and claim parts of it as yours? Will you disperse you settlements
across many systems, or rather focus them in a single system? Personally, I'll
probably go for the latter option of centralization. Maybe I'll start with the
**Wanted** trait and found my own empire in a single system, building that
system up to the max before spreading out :). This is also my first post in the

I have been dying for a space sim like this -- story, ship combat, classic
Bethesda RPG elements, etc. The direct showcased so many features that, if
pitched to me in writing, I wouldn't have believed possible to fit into a single
game. But oh man am I a believer now. I honestly think one of my most
anticipated gameplay elements is just being able to survey different planets and
enjoy the strikingly beautiful vistas and starscapes. I've often fantasized
about having my own little space ship to just cruise around and hang out in.
With this game, I can (almost) make that a reality. What are you looking forward

IDEAL PLAYTHROUGH ORDER FOR BORDERLANDS 1
Copy of a post from old GB forums that outlines the order by which you should
tackle DLCs and Playthroughs so that you're as appropriately leveled for each
section: >tl;dr: |Main Game PT 1| --> |Main Game PT 2| --> |Moxxie PT 2| -->
|Knoxx PT 2| --> |ZI PT 2| --> |Robolution PT 2| --> |scaled PT 2.5 free-play
everywhere!| *The ideal playthrough:* *Playthrough 1:* The only thing you need
to worry about here is keeping an eye on the level of the story mission. Arid
Badlands: In general, do all or most of the side-missions until you defeat
Sledge, and then move-on into the Dah Headlands. Level 18-20 by the Headlands.
New Haven/Rust Commons: Once at New Haven, head out to find Tannis. Be sparing
with your side-missions, and only do them if you need to level-up. 23 - 25 by
the time you Seek out Tannis, 26 - 27 by the time you make the Secret Rendezvous
at Jaynistown. The goal here is to be done with PT 1 at about level 32 - 35,
depending on how many Lance and Guardians you can skirt past at the end.
*Playthrough 2:* Playthrough 2 is really the keystone to everything subsequent.
Think of PT 1 as the introduction, and PT 2 as the real meat of the game. You’ll
get a better feel for your character, and start to specialize and make your
build distinct. Plus, completing PT 2 enables the global scaling for the main
game, DLC1 and DLC 4. The same formula used in PT 1 applies here, except that we
have Knoxx sitting out there with a hard starting point of level 51. Dahl
Headlands: I usually do most of the side-missions here, but I try to reach New
Haven around level 42. New Haven/Rust Commons: I like to reach New Haven at 42,
and then make-sure I’m at Jaynistown in Rust Commons East at about level 46
(basically as soon as I’ve killed Krom and handed that piece to Tannis, I head
over to do the “Secret Rendezvous” mission.) Rakk Hive and Taylor Kobb are about
47. Old Haven - Salt Flats and beyond will be around 48-50. The goal, then, will
be to finish PT 2 as close to level 50 as possible. My last run left me at level
52 after defeating the Destroyer. I skipped nearly all side-missions after the
Headlands, and dodged as many fights in the Descent and Eridian Promontory as I
could, since Lance and Guardians give a ton of XP. This actually put me at a
good level for the bosses and encounters along the way. I was matched-level with
the Rakk Hive and nearly everything afterward, and the Destroyer fight was long
despite the 2 level difference. Update: Since the real-time scaling for the Main
Game now kicks in when you reach the Vault, the Destroyer will adjust relative
to your level, and due to the way this adjustment works, he will actually be two
levels above you, now, rather than being stuck at 50 like the olden days. Moxxie
PT 2 The way Moxxie acts toward you and some of the things she says in Knoxx
imply that the player has gone through her trials prior to starting Knoxx. This
also gives a little reprieve from the story-focused structure, and awards a free
skill point. I actually leveled-up from my run of the Prove Yourself mission,
leaving me at level 53 going into Knoxx. This was mostly due to challenges I
completed while in the arenas. Leveling up from this a rare occurrence. Knoxx PT
2 Knoxx PT 2 hard-starts at 50-51, and the initial stages can be very
challenging for a level 50 player. Being a level or two above will leave it
interesting without it being punishingly difficult for a player who still has
the largely hodge-podge gear that comes from minimal farming. I entered at 53
and found I was on-level for nearly all of the key areas. I may have been a
level above the first shock-trooper barricade, but that fight is ridiculous when
you’re proper level, so the difficulty felt about normal. I was 54-55 going
through Lockdown, which is on-par with the enemies there, and 56 when I got to
General Knoxx, which was on-par with him. The Gen. Knoxx fight was a good
challenge with my mediocre gear, and the level I was at. I should note that I
sharply avoided doing almost any side-missions. Killing Knoxx leveled me up to
57. Loot Larceny With the main story mission of Knoxx done, (and the patch 1.41
in effect) there are no more hard level starts left to worry about. The only
concern now is that there are elements of DLC 4 that reference DLC 1, so to keep
the story consistent, do Zombie Island PT 2 before you do Robolution PT 2. My
first playthrough post-scaling-patch left me at level 66 when the last Clap Trap
had fallen and all was said and done. Robolution gives us a nice bookend to stop
on, and from here we have the entire main game and all DLCs in real-time
scaling, and we can go back and do all the side-missions we left behind, and
have fun farming for uber-1337 gear, as well as return to PT 1 for skillpoints
and backpack SDUs. *Check the post link for extra details on missions etc..*

SHIP CUSTOMISATION
Really looking forward to ship customisation. One thing I've always loved in
space games is the ability to walk around your ship - I do hope this isnt
compromised to allow for customisation. Elite Dangerous' teleport to cockpit is
a big no no for me

FEELS LIKE FALLOUT IF FALLOUT DIDN’T HAPPEN
This isn’t a criticism, just something I’m thinking about. I’m so excited for
this game. Fallout is a game where the world went to war and destroyed each
other, annihilation through a nuclear apocalypse. Does anyone else view
Starfield as an alternate future for that same world? Instead of destroying
ourselves, instead we have managed to visit and explore space. To develop and
grow as a planet? So hyped!
