Stopped at a dozen EA stations. Observations: 1. Plenty of stations. I stopped at more than necessary stations b/c I was worried the next one would be inoperable. 2. Doubt I would have made it w/o EA as filtering on level 3 fast chargers on PlugShare shows relatively few, and they are just singles often away from hiway. 3. Every station had at least one charger inoperable. 4. Inoperable chargers would sometimes show unavailable but others would show ready and then fail to charge. Most irritating was location showing 3 of 4 available but on arrival all 3 showed "ready" but failed to charge. The one charger listed as in use was actually available and worked. 5. The placement at some locations is crummy. For example, at a Walmart EA stations were set within normal busy parking spaces, so it was hard to jockey in and out, especially if you have to back in. 6. Locations with chargers facing each other have very narrow parking spaces, so be careful. And watch out for those poles placed so that you can hit them (see pic). 7. Fastest charging was at the Volkswagen plant in TN at 235kw. Slowest 30kw. 8. There is really no difference between the 350 and 150 chargers. Often had 150 chargers pumping out 185kw and 350 chargers not exceeding 120kw. 9. I typically finished charging before other folks, tho of course lots of variables at play. But seemed that EV6 charged faster than others. Lyriq owner complained how slowly it charged. 10. In MI saw a couple yet to be unveiled Maserati EVs in testing mode. 11. Don't plan on having bathrooms nearby. 12. My first time with the HDA. What a super system! Millions of dollars in govt funding and their network still sucks How on earth does Tesla maintain a perfect network while also producing hundreds of thousands of cars every year. I did load the new nav updates with charger route planning. Seeing the OP's experience is, well, not exactly comforting but not as bad as I could have imagined it being. Likewise, we'll be planning a conservative itinerary to reduce the likelihood of being stranded due to an OOO charging station. I'd like each stop to have a backup secondary locale if possible. Does ABRP have an option to plan stops with a secondary station within range? Just last week we did a 600 mile round trip between central MO and Bentonville AR. We charged three times, no issues. But charger density was uncomfortably low. Had one of those stations been OOO we'd be in a fine mess. They're available in many locations, including hotels, malls, friend's house etc. Open a chargepoint account so you can charge on their network if EA isn't available. install plugshare app to search for chargers in your area. My understanding is the Buc-ee's have a number of EV chargers at each location. That information may not have been plugged into ABRP. You may want to call to confirm that. Plus the Sheetz has everything you need. Agree 100%. Throw in the facts that stations are broken for MONTHS. The one in Columbia has had on 2 connections out of the 8 (4 units) working for over 3 months and Florence was similar. On the trip we are on, we added 2 hours of charging time instead of 35 minutes to our 6+ hour trip. One charger maxed out at 43kW. Can I trade my EA kW for another company???? I was able to plot my route using the Plugshare App, filtering on EA stations. I was impressed with both the Plugshare App and the EA stations. First stop after leaving the dealer with a full charge was 250 miles. Every subsequent leg was about 175 miles. Every place I stopped had 8 - 14 chargers. Never experienced a problem getting a 100+kw charge. Always was on my way in about 20 minutes. Where? I've never seen that many at an EA station here in Ohio or driving through Indiana, Illinois, or Wisconsin. The State of Texas as part of the Dieselgate, is installing chargers across the state at 50 mile intervals. I have not seen any of these yet nor read about their completion. If you stick to the interstate highways you might be ok. This is Texas where oil conservatism reigns supreme so I expect it will be the last state to admit that there is an EV revolution taking place. Heck, just this past week the bill raising the fee for EV license plate registrations was raised to $200 a year after an initial $400 was signed into law. The average ICE driver pays an equivalent $130 in state gasoline tax. Wow -- 16 chargers. Amazing. I look forward to the day when that is the norm, and not just for EA but for other CCS-based charging companies, here in the mid-west. I do look on with a bit of envy when I see new Tesla Supercharging stations going in around me, many with eight to ten chargers -- though not enough to consider a Tesla anything over the EV6. Heading north/south along either coast and there's tons of chargers. Heading east/west from coast to coast and there's often a single DC charger installation -- sometime only a single charger -- with no backup if it's down.
