It is our responsibility to make sure the students have good-quality opportunities to connect with professionals in their chosen sector. As educators we cannot know the realities of day-to-day work in the Digital sector, especially one so diverse. Industry input is critical to the success of our students and to ensuring a steady pipeline of well-informed talent. These events will bring together 10 volunteers representing different disciplines within the Digital sphere to meet and work alongside small teams of students on a real-world scenario. All activities will be facilitated. What happens on the day? We don’t ask our Digital Professionals to give speeches or presentations or prepare anything before the day. On the day, our facilitator will take you through three key activities: a) Helping students understand the variety of roles in their chosen sector and the key characteristics required of new, young employees. b) Using your experience and knowledge of your sector, advising small teams of students how to solve a real-world problem. c) Students will present their work and a winning solution will be chosen. You can watch a video from a similar day by clicking here Who are the learners? Aged 16-18y, the learners are studying ICT/Digital at Harrow FE College. Harrow FE College is the most diverse college in London and is number one among London colleges for 16-18 year old achievement (Department for Education, 2020). FAQ What’s for lunch? We will provide a buffet lunch and we will ask for your dietary requirements when you register. What do I wear? Please come dressed as you would to a normal working day. What preparation should I do before the event? There is nothing you need to do specifically to prepare; we have selected you based on your career path to date and relevance of your experience to the curriculum the students are studying. However, if you would feel more comfortable attending having done some preparation, please take time to think about what you would like to know now if you were 16-18 years old and launching your career. What is expected of me after the event? Nothing! Unless you want to of course. This is a stand-alone event. If you would like to offer mentoring, work placements or information about junior employment and apprenticeship schemes at your organisation please let us know. Please contact jane.doyle@workingknowledge.org.uk if you have any further questions.
