UNISA'S DECOLONIALITY SUMMER SCHOOL MARKS A DECADE OF TRANSFORMATIVE
CONVERSATIONS

Marking its 10th anniversary, the Unisa Decoloniality Summer School 2024
instalment was held under the theme "Reflection, disruption and the realisation
of decolonial futures". Renowned thought leaders assembled to explore the theme
from various perspectives, including analysing geopolitics after the Covid-19
pandemic. The school has been crucial in fostering critical dialogues.


PRESTIGIOUS RANKING PLACES UNISA IN THE TOP EIGHT IN SA

Unisa continues to make major strides in academic excellence, placing eighth
among the top universities in South Africa in the latest QS World University
Rankings based on factors such as academic reputation and international research

CLOSING CEREMONY REFLECTS ON 150 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE AND RESILIENCE

The closing ceremony of Unisa's academic year marked the celebration of 150
years of shaping futures in the service of humanity and reclaiming Africa's
intellectual futures.


UNISA AND ORGANISED LABOUR SIGN HISTORIC MULTI-YEAR SALARY AGREEMENT

Following months of discussions, Unisa and the two recognised trade unions at
the institution have signed a multi-year collective agreement in a historic
move. The agreement opens the door for a more secure and fruitful future for the
university and its staff, marking an important turning point in the labour
relations history of the university.


UNISA RENEWS COMMITMENT TO CAPACITY BUILDING IN ETHIOPIA

During a recent graduation ceremony at Unisa's Ethiopia Regional Learning
Centre, the university and the Ethiopian government renewed their memorandum of
agreement for an additional five years. Unisa envisions the centre to become a
hub for the Eastern African region.

A FIRST FOR AFRICA AS UNISA HOSTS TWO IWA CONFERENCES

From 3 to 8 December 2023, Unisa's College of Science, Engineering and
Technology, in partnership with the Institute for Nanotechnology and Water
Sustainability, hosted two International Water Association specialist
conferences back-to-back in celebration of Unisa's 150-year anniversary.




UNISA STUDENTS IGNITE TOMORROW'S SOLUTIONS

Students from Unisa's colleges showcased their groundbreaking and future-driven
inventions at the inaugural 12th Research and Innovation Festival, demonstrating
the university's commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and
entrepreneurship.




ACCELERATING INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY IMPACT TO ENHANCE DEVELOPMENT

The 2023 Unisa Innovation Festival provided participants with the opportunity to
learn about the latest innovation trends at the university, discuss broad trends
in innovation, research and collaboration, and build partnerships within the
innovation ecosystem.




NRF DIRECTOR TO ADDRESS INNOVATION FESTIVAL

The National Research Foundation's Dr Zolani Dyosi will speak on the subject of
A South African model for a Government/Academic/SME innovation and technology
development partnership: A case for renewable energy innovations.
