HUSTLER MAGAZINE'S CONTROVERSIAL NEW COVER FEATURES A TOPLESS WOMAN WEARING AN
AMERICAN FLAG HIJAB

Some would argue that pushing the boundaries of what is “appropriate” is what
men’s magazine Hustler does best. But its latest cover — which, as Yahoo Style
reports, features a woman wearing a hijab made out of an American flag while
flashing some serious underboob — is stirring up some major controversy.



The 2017 "anniversary" cover, which was mailed out to subscribers earlier this
month, includes the text “Freedom First,” a somewhat satirical companion to the
cover star’s controversial attire.

Of course, displaying the hijab on the cover of a men’s magazine — worn by a
nearly-naked woman — will be be seen by some people as insanely disrespectful to
what the headscarf typically represents. Similarly, others may feel that wearing
an American flag as a hijab is disrespectful to the flag itself, as it
symbolizes American ideals. Obviously, that was the point of the problematic
cover: To stir up controversy, and more importantly, start a conversation about
what it means to be an American right now, when political chaos is at an
all-time high (thanks, Mr. President). In that respect, it worked: Tons of
Twitter users chimed in to share their thoughts on the magazine cover.
