GameBook Python + Django (Project Manager & Scrum Master) June 2018 Gamebook was the first real team-based programming project I had done in my life. I worked on this freshman design project with four other people over the course of about 6 months, with 3 of those months dedicated to planning and prototyping. The idea was relatively simple, we would create a note-taking application that in order to keep your attention on the same page as your notes, would every so often offer you short games to play. My role in this project was the project manager and also scrum master. We built this application using something I was fortunately familiar with: the Django framework. We also used Git for version control and collaboration. I was the only one on our team with experience in larger programming projects and web development, and some people on our team had very little experience with programming in general. During planning, before we started, I offered my best knowledge of the simplest ways we could create this application without sacrificing any functionality or anyone's ability to participate. I tried my best to find everyone's strengths and weaknesses, and point them in the best direction for learning things that were completely new to them. I tried to split the project up enough and organized tasks for our Scrum board so that our team wasn't too dependent on eachother completing different parts. Once we each finished part of the project, I would help put together the pieces until it created a singular cohesive program. CollectionZ Python + Django May 2017 CollectionZ was a website I created using Python and Django for my senior project in high school. The purpose of CollectionZ was to create a space for your collections of items, specifically you could create a mass portfolio of different types of work you created. A programmer could have collections of work from different programming languages, or an artist could have collections of different mediums. The idea of the website is simple, and could be achieved in many different ways, but the main goal of this project was to branch out my skills and create not only something functional, but secure, well-built, and easily able to be expanded upon. One of my goals going into this project was to create something using Python, a language I had previously never worked with. I experimented with different ideas before deciding I wanted to create a website and found that the Django Framework was an excellent way to create something. A-Maze-Ing Grace Java + Greenfoot API May 2017 A-Maze-Ing Grace is a single-player game I created using Java and the Greenfoot API during my senior year of high school. Play as the amazing Grace racing through a mysterious maze, filled with different monsters and treasures. Try your best, and find the way to the very end, you might need to gain some experience and items to help you successfully tackle to the obstacles before you and get out in time. ♫ Amazing Grace, find your way out ♫ My main goal for this project was to expand upon the gravity and platform based goals from my previous project (Superb Mashing Sister), explore Maze generation, and find a simple way to implement lighting using the API we were expected to work with. I did a bit of research on ways to implement the things I wanted in general, and then using the Greenfoot API. Unfortunately, I found that maze generation would be a bit difficult and likely take more time than was available to complete my project, the way I wanted to do things. I was still able to understand the basics of the technique and would love to expand upon this in the future perhaps using a different development API. I was able to implement a simple lighting feature that gave a much greater user experience in terms of gameplay. But, I found myself dealing with the limitations of the Greenfoot API once more. It would be better to start with a blank slate, and only render the objects or backgrounds that are within a light source, but Greenfoot renders every object that you are tracking on a screen. So, to get around this I put a black screen above all objects, that at each light source would have varying levels of transparency to create an adequate lighting effect. Superb Mashing Sisters Java + Greenfoot API February 2017 Superb Mashing Sisters is a local two-player game I created using Java and the Greenfoot API during my senior year of high school. Play as one of two sisters, Heaven or Nevaeh, and try to defeat your opponent by pelting them with mashed potatoes. Be weary; when mom gets home, she'll decide who's the most in trouble. DrawDrawDraw Pure JavaScript January 2017 DrawDrawDraw was an JavaScript web application I created for the purpose of creating a new way to draw pixel art. As I had some interests in art, I found that I liked the style that pixel art offered. I was using either Photoshop or Paint to create small artworks, but I liked how they looked At this point, I had had a lot of experience using JavaScript alongside the framework jQuery, but I felt that I relied too much on the simplifications that jQuery offered to JavaScript. I didn't feel as confident using JavaScript all by itself. So I decided that I wanted to create this using only JavaScript to create a better foundation for myself moving forward. This is a project I would love to recreate in the future with the knowledge I have today. How I created it in the past was not bad perse, but my lack of experience left room for more errors than necessary. Alot of the functionality overlapped more than it should have, and I would love to create a more modular version that would be more easier to read, optimize, and expand upon to be able to add more functionality and features. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CONTENT UNDER CONSTRUCTION...
