HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR VALVES AND WHEN TO ACT?

Control valves are the unsung heroes of industrial processes as they keep
everything running smoothly, controlling the process’ pressure, temperature,
flow rate, and liquid level. Without them, the stability, efficiency, safety,
and quality of industrial processes would be compromised. And yet, these are
often not monitored. With a scarcity of trained engineers, this becomes even
more critical.

Controller Performance
Toggle tooltip

CONTROLLER PERFORMANCE

An unstable control performance is diagnosed with several indicators such as
over- and undershoot, dead band and stiction. It refers to a controller which is
not able to generate stability in the process.

Undershoot/Overshoot
Toggle tooltip

UNDERSHOOT/OVERSHOOT

Undershoot is when the valve position is lower than its setpoint. Meannwhile,
overshoot is when the valve position is higher than its setpoint.

Deadband
Toggle tooltip

DEADBAND

Control Valve dead band is the range a measured signal can vary without
initiating a response from the actuator. Every control valve assembly
experiences dead band.

Hunting
Toggle tooltip

HUNTING

Control valve hunting is a condition when the valve closes and opens at an
uncontrolled rate. It denotes that the control valve is unable to find the
correct position in order to maintain the set process conditions.

Packing/Bellow Wear
Toggle tooltip

PACKING/BELLOW WEAR

The valve and actuator stem are protected and guided by the packing and bellows.
An increase in stiction over time can indicate wear of the packing and the
bellows.

Hysteresis/Stiction
Toggle tooltip

HYSTERESIS/STICTION

Stiction is the combination of Static and Friction. It refers to the phenomenon
of the static friction of the valve stem in the packing and sealing at the
beginning of a stroke.

Positioner Calibration
Toggle tooltip

POSITIONER CALIBRATION

Positioner Calibration is a stable offset of the position value versus the
setpoint value is detected.

Stuck to Open/Close
Toggle tooltip

STUCK TO OPEN/CLOSE

The control valve does not respond to setpoint changes and is either stuck
opening or stuck closing.

Health Timeline
Toggle tooltip

HEALTH TIMELINE

The Health Timeline is a computer-based doppelganger (digital twin)
representation that provides an overview of the health-score of the
control-valve, as a trend, and the symptoms and issues that were detected in the
current reporting period and previous periods.

Recommendations
Toggle tooltip

RECOMMENDATIONS

CVA provides automated prescriptive recommendations based on the pattern of the
dysfunctions and their severity. These recommendations can be integrated into
your CMMS for automated maintenance strategy.

Remaining Useful Lifetime
Toggle tooltip

REMAINING USEFUL LIFETIME

CVA calculates control valve RUL taking into consideration the installation
dates of the control valve/actuator and the actual context in which the control
valve is being operated. Dynamic insight into RUL helps you to better focus and
plan for the next turnaround and valve maintenance activities.

Cavitation*/Flashing*
Toggle tooltip

CAVITATION*/FLASHING*

Cavitation occurs in control valves in liquid media applications. It happens
when localized low pressure causes bubbles to form and then suddenly collapse.
Flashing occurs when a liquid flows through a control valve and evaporates to
retain the vapor.

Performance Dashboards
Toggle tooltip

PERFORMANCE DASHBOARDS

CVA comes with dashboards that help you track your plant's performance
month-by-month over the whole asset base of control valves. This enables control
valve benchmarking, insights into operational efficiency (energy/product
losses), root-cause detection and maintenance optimization in a quick glance.

CMMS Integration
Toggle tooltip

CMMS INTEGRATION

CVA easily integrates with your CMMS (IFS Ultimo, Oracle Fusion, Upkeep, Infor,
SAP etc) to send automated work orders and control valve maintenance
recommendations, improving your maintenance strategies.

Install On Premise
Toggle tooltip

INSTALL ON PREMISE

The Control Valve App can be deployed on-premise with the Valve App Enterprise
edition. This approach empowers industrial customers to have full control over
their deployment, ensuring data security, scalability, and flexibility while
harnessing the advanced capabilities of UReason's Control Valve App.

Process Integration
Toggle tooltip

PROCESS INTEGRATION

In enterprise edition, CVA can be integrated with upstream/downstream processes
and additional process equipment like pumps, heat exchangers, flow meters,
motors for advanced diagnostics, giving you a better understanding of your
overall process efficiency and health.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Valve App

WHAT BRAND AND TYPE OF VALVES AND ACTUATORS ARE SUPPORTED?

Toggle arrow_downward

UReason supports all brands: air, electrical and electro-hydraulic actuators in
combination with globe, needle, and gate valves. We also support most butterfly
valves.

WHAT DATA IS NEEDED FOR THE VALVE APP?

Toggle arrow_downward

Setpoint and Output (Valve position) of the controller of the control valves. If
position feedback is not available, additional data on controlled measurement
flow/level/pressure/temperature and environment is needed .

WHAT META DATA OF THE VALVES/ACTUATORS IS NEEDED?

Toggle arrow_downward

Actuator and valve  (model and make) and installation dates. If not available,
we need to create an asset inventory.

HOW MUCH DATA DO I NEED TO PROVIDE ?

Toggle arrow_downward

For the basic version, you can provide up to one month of data. We recommend a
minimum of one week of continuous data .

HOW DO YOU GENERATE A WORK-ORDER IN THE CMMS?

Toggle arrow_downward

The valve app provides a REST Server that will list/provide the
recommendations/orders for your assets. You can easily integrate this with your
CMMS – IFS/Ultimo/SAP/MAXIMO/Upkeep.  All have a capability to interface to our
REST Server and have REST-APIs to generate work-orders for the functional items.
We can also connect with most of the own build CMMS,  please contact us for the
details.

HOW DOES THE CONTROL VALVE APP DIFFER FROM TRADITIONAL PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEMS
AND LOOP-TUNING SOLUTIONS?

Toggle arrow_downward

The Control Valve App differs from traditional process control systems and loop
tuning solutions by offering more insights from an asset management perspective
and integrating with a CMMS. The app provides continuous information about the
health of the asset, determines the remaining useful life, and automatically
connects with your workflow. This makes control valve diagnostics very
transparent and straightforward. It also provides multiple detailed insights for
Reliability Engineers to better understand the condition and health of the
valve, including root-cause analysis and benchmarking. In addition, the app
offers insights for Process Control Engineers to calculate product and energy
loss.
