MATT DANE BAKER NAMED UNIVERSITY’S PROVOST

Interim University President Susan C. Aldridge announced that Matt Dane Baker,
PA-C, DHSc, has been appointed Provost of Thomas Jefferson University. Dr.
Baker, in addition to his role as Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, has
been serving as the University’s Interim Provost since July 1, 2022.

HELPING STUDENTS BECOME MORE EMPATHETIC GLOBAL CITIZENS

For the past five years, one important tie has consistently brought together
students from different disciplines: the annual, student-led JeffX Global Health
Conference. Launched in 2019, the conference was established to promote
collaboration and communication among students of various academic backgrounds,
while fostering broad interest in an array of global-health topics.

FULBRIGHT SCHOLARS DISCOVER THEIR PASSIONS AT JEFFERSON

Fulbright, created in 1946 by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of
Educational and Cultural Affairs, includes more than a dozen unique exchange
programs, including the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, which awards
international young professionals merit-based grants to complete graduate
studies at U.S. universities.  We spoke with two current Fulbright Foreign
Student Program scholars at Jefferson to learn more about their experiences.

PRE-MED STUDENTS ORGANIZE TEDX EVENT

From breaking the stigma surrounding mental health in Asian Americans to
exploring machine learning as a tool to aid designers, the second TEDx
JeffersonU provided a platform for members of the University community and
beyond to share ideas. Organized by pre-medical studies students Isha Akolia and
Priya Modi, the May 6 event centered on the theme “Redefine Possible.”

Craig Griffen, RA, LEED AP, professor of architecture in the College of
Architecture & the Built Environment, focuses his research on applying passive
energy strategies to the design of suburban and urban housing in ways that are
more attractive and economical for today’s consumers.
