OOPS! YOU CLICKED ON A SIMULATED PHISHING TEST

NIKKI DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU CAN FORWARD ANY SUSPICIOUS EMAIL TO THE SERVICE
DESK
VIA THE “SUSPICIOUS EMAIL” OPTION IN YOUR OUTLOOK “QUICK STEPS” MENU OR RAISE A
TICKET
VIA THE SERVICE DESK PORTAL IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS FEATURE.

Most phishing emails are designed with a sense of urgency or fear in order for
you to click a link or open an attachment. The Family Building Society has a
number of protections in place including Mimecast Email and Web Security however
if you are not sure about the contents of an email ask yourself these questions:
 * Do you recognise the sender? Were you expecting this email? Not recognising
the sender isn’t necessarily cause for concern but look carefully at the
sender’s name – does it sound legitimate, or is it trying to mimic something
you are familiar with? Are they asking you to do something out of the
   ordinary?
 * Hyperlinks – don’t click the link if you’re not sure where it goes, hover the
mouse over it to reveal the true link. It may provide a clue that this is not
a genuine email, most links lead to spoof/fake login pages that mimic genuine
   ones.
 * Dear You, be wary of emails that refer to you by generic names, or in a way
you find unusual, such as the first part of your email address. Don’t forget
though, your actual name may be inferred by your email address.
 * Are you expecting an attachment from this particular sender? Does it have an
unusual name and/or file extension? Even though the attachment has got
through our filters it may have malicious content ready to run once opened.
 * Would this person or department usually contact you with this type of
request? If a sender’s email address was compromised scammers may be spoofing
the address to gain further information.
 * Is the email presented in an unusual format? i.e. strange font, spelling and
grammar mistakes, no email signature, and strange subject line?
 * Would this type of information only be available via the Intranet i.e. not
sent via email? Use links and procedures that you are familiar with.

Also remember the following guidelines from our Computer Use and Electronic
Communications policy:
 * Software can only be installed via IT Service Delivery, we would never send
   you links to download software.
 * Work email should not be used for personal use and/or registering for
   services.
 * The use of webmail, cloud storage, or personal file sharing services of any
form is not permitted, access to such websites will be blocked so far as is
   practical.
