When business leaders are not strong communicators and/or have a foreign accent,

their companies:

 * have a 47% lower total return to shareholders over a 5-year period, compared
   to those who were highly effective.
 * are 3.5x less likely to outperform their competition.
 * are 25% less likely to obtain funding from investors.
 * are given 15% fewer opportunities to grow because their accent suggests they
   don't have the influence needed to be successful leaders.
 * lose clients, who are 1.6x less likely to choose their product if it is
   described with a non-native accent in English.
 * lose consumers, who are 3.2x less likely to give their personal details when
   they are asked with a foreign accent.

 * Companies where employees speak several languages can boost their revenue
   between 10-20% on average (up to 23% for IT and management consultancy
   firms!).
 * In a study with 26.000 international employees, 92% considered English
   important, but only 7% of them confirmed they could communicate effectively
   in English at work.

Manufacturing

 * A national chain could lose 20-30% of profit if they don't have excellent
   English skills to negotiate the best pricing deals with international
   suppliers.




 * In Italy, manufacturing companies estimate their costs increase by 50% when
   they are not able to negotiate deals directly with global suppliers in
   English.

Tourism

 * In Russia, travel agents that do not speak English fluently lose up to 90% of
   their revenue because they cannot negotiate effectively with foreign
   partners.




 * In Germany, hotels would lose more than 70% of revenue if they could not
   offer their services in English.

 * In Italy, construction companies need to be fluent in English if they don't
   want to lose 80% of their revenue coming from international projects.

 * In Italy, around 30-40% of banks' managed funds are international and require
