RECOVERY REVIVAL

EVERYONE IS RECOVERING FROM SOMETHING. IF ANYTHING OTHER THAN GOD AND HIS WILL
FOR US IS AT THE CENTER OF OUR LIVES, THAT THING ROBS EVERY OTHER ASPECT OF OUR
LIVES AND DIMINISHES OUR GOD FOCUS.

Whether it’s mind altering substances, overworking, food issues, relationships,
sex, gambling, shopping, and the list goes on, all these things are an attempt
to fill the infinite emptiness we feel with something finite and millions can
attest that it does not work.

The infinite hole in our gut can only be filled with The Infinite God, our
creator and our maintainer and our Savior from our self destructive tendencies.

RECOVERY REVIVAL IS A 12 STEP FOCUSED FELLOWSHIP OPEN TO ANYONE SEEKING A
SPIRITUAL WAY OF LIFE. IT IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY OTHER 12 STEP FELLOWSHIPS
BUT IT IS HOPED THAT RECOVERY REVIVAL MAY BE HELPFUL TO MEMBERS OF ALL 12 STEP
FELLOWSHIPS. SINCE ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS IS THE ORIGIN AND CONSIDERED BY MANY TO
BE THE FOUNDATION OF ALL 12 STEP FELLOWSHIPS, AA AND RELATED REFERENCES APPEAR
EXTENSIVELY IN RECOVERY REVIVAL MATERIALS.

THE EXCERPTS FROM ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS ARE REPRINTED WITH PERMISSION OF
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS WORLD SERVICES, INC. (“AAWS”) PERMISSION TO REPRINT THESE
EXCERPTS DOES NOT MEAN THAT AAWS HAS REVIEWED OR APPROVED THE CONTENTS OF THIS
PUBLICATION, OR THAT AAWS NECESSARILY AGREES WITH THE VIEWS EXPRESSED HEREIN.
A.A. IS A PROGRAM OF RECOVERY FROM ALCOHOLISM ONLY – USE OF THESE EXCERPTS IN
CONNECTION WITH PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES WHICH ARE PATTERNED AFTER A.A., BUT
WHICH ADDRESS OTHER PROBLEMS, OR IN ANY OTHER NON-A.A. CONTEXT, DOES NOT IMPLY
OTHERWISE.

Bill W’s First Ever Recorded Talk 1947

Bill W., Father Ed Dowling, Rev Sam Shoemaker, 1955

> If you think you are an atheist, an agnostic, a skeptic, or have any other
> form of intellectual pride which keeps you from accepting what is in this
> book, I feel sorry for you. If you still think you are strong enough to beat
> the game alone, that is your affair. But if you really and truly want to quit
> drinking liquor for good and all, and sincerely feel that you must have some
> help, we know that we have an answer for you. It never fails, if you go about
> it with one half the zeal you have been in the habit of showing when you were
> getting another drink.
>
>
> Your Heavenly Father will never let you down!

Alcoholics Anonymous p181

> Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could
> live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves. Obviously. But where
> and how were we to find this Power?
>
> Well, that’s exactly what this book is about.

Alcoholics Anonymous p. 45

> Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could
> live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves. Obviously. But where
> and how were we to find this Power?
>
> Well, that’s exactly what this book is about.

Alcoholics Anonymous p. 45

> Remember that we deal with alcohol—cunning, baffling, powerful! Without help
> it is too much for us. But there is One who has all power—that One is God. May
> you find Him now!
>
> Half measures availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point. We asked His
> protection and care with complete abandon.

Alcoholics Anonymous p. 59

> But life among Alcoholics Anonymous is more than attending gatherings and
> visiting hospitals….. Being wrecked in the same vessel, being restored and
> united under one God, with hearts and minds attuned to the welfare of others,
> the things which matter so much to some people no longer signify much to them.
> How could they?

Alcoholics Anonymous p. 161

> There I humbly offered myself to God, as I then understood Him, to do with me
> as He would. I placed myself unreservedly under His care and direction. I
> admitted for the first time that of myself I was nothing; that without Him I
> was lost. I ruthlessly faced my sins and became willing to have my new-found
> Friend take them away, root and branch. I have not had a drink since.

Alcoholics Anonymous p.13

> Bill was at my house talking to my wife and me. We were eating lunch, and I
> was listening and trying to find out why they had this release that they
> seemed to have. Bill looked across at my wife and said to her,“Henrietta, the
> Lord has been so wonderful to me, curing me of this terrible disease, that I
> just want to keep talking about it and telling people.”
>
> I thought, I think I have the answer. Bill was very, very grateful that he had
> been released from this terrible thing and he had given God the credit for
> having done it, and he’s so grateful about it he wants to tell other people
> about it. That sentence, “The Lord has been so wonderful to me, curing me of
> this terrible disease, that I just want to keep telling people about it,” has
> been a sort of a golden text for the A.A. program and for me.
