AUSTIN “CHUMLEE” RUSSELL’S CANDY SHOP OPENS AT PAWN PLAZA IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

By Scott Roeben, on June 27 2017

Downtown Las Vegas Las Vegas Las Vegas Shopping Things to Do in Las Vegas

Austin “Chumlee” Russell, one of the stars of the Las Vegas-based “Pawn Stars”
reality series, has opened a new candy store, Chumlee’s Candy on the Boulevard.

The candy shop is located in Pawn Plaza, a shopping complex adjacent to the
World Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop made, y’know, world famous, on “Pawn
Stars.”

During our recent visit, Chumlee himself was greeting fans at the shop and said
he expects to do so often.

Chumlee’s candy shop features classics like Turkish Taffy, Astro Pops and
Niklnips, at least one of which sounds like a stripper name.

The shop is co-owned by Chumlee and his brother, Sage Russell.

Chumlee’s candy shop is diminutive, as it inhabits a shipping container, but has
a solid collection of sweets, including many retro candies sure to strike a
nostalgic chord with guests.

The candy selection reflects Chumlee’s personal favorites such as Bottle Caps
and Razzles.

It seems somebody’s lollipop has delusions of grandeur.

The prices are a tad on the steep side, so don’t think of it as “candy,” per se.
The candy is just an excuse to rub elbows with a reality TV star. They aren’t
candy cigarettes, they’re “Pawn Stars” mementos, emphasis on the Mentos. Which
we don’t recall seeing at the shop, but just play along.

Oh, that’s right, we went for the candy cigarettes ($2). We also snagged
SweeTarts ($2.75, deep breaths), Red Vines ($2.45), Pop Rocks ($1.85) and candy
buttons ($1.97).

Don’t judge us. It’s Las Vegas.

Chumlee and his brother Sage were helpful and friendly, indulging requests for
autographs and selfies.

Our receipt said “Cashier: Austin Russell,” but his brother was actually the one
pulling cashier duty.

There was a short line outside the shop during our visit, mainly because the
store can only accommodate six guests at a time.

The shop is open noon to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday (closed Monday and
Tuesday).

The “Boulevard” in the name is Las Vegas Boulevard, the most glorious of all
thoroughfares.

Pawn Plaza has had quite a bit of turnover in recent months, so it’s gratifying
to see another new tenant in place.

We quite like the nearby Jared’s Old Fashioned Hot Dogs & Hamburgers, as one
does not live by candy buttons alone.

Here’s hoping Chumlee and his brother can make a go of Chumlee’s Candy on the
Boulevard. It’s unknown if “Pawn Stars” will be picked up by the History network
for a 15th season, so it’s an ideal time for the show’s stars to explore other
ventures.

Hello Chum. I am the creator of The Amazing Adventures of Harrymoon . See
harrymoon.com to check out. I think our books, mostly for elementary aged
students would be an awesome fit for your candy store, we are willing to send
on consignment with a reasonable book display. No up front cost, and would
help us get some books into the Vegas area. We rock that market. Hope we can
talk, been a fan of yours for a while. Hope we can talk soon to discuss, sure
my following would help increase your traffic flow.. I have done many major
Barnes and Noble book signings, with your help, I think this would be cool.

Waste of time. Why bother to go to this store when you can get the same candy
at Walmart or Cracker Barrel? Chum is a nice guy (I’ve met him at a few UNLV
basketball games) but all of these pawn stars guys are losers. The old man
was one of the biggest thieves in this city. Locals never like any of these
people or their nonsense they bring here. The pawn shop is a big joke. Can’t
buy or pawn anything there unless you bring KY jelly. Can’t wait for the day
for this whole crew to fade away like a Vegas suntan. Old man gone so that’s
   a good start.

The amount of vitriol around here is palpable. It's a good representation
of the common denominator, I'm proud of all of you !!1! Y'all better than
these Pawn Star millionaires ! Chum Lee is worth 5 million by himself, you
really think this would've been a huge financial loss for him ? It's a
candy store who'se maximum capacity is 3 people, hello ? I think I'm going
to have to s p e l l it out slowly and clearly. Small shop = small
investment. Candy Store = ~ $ Obviously, 3 years later it's still open,
moreso, ChumLee is often seen behind the cash (early morning), that means
he likes his job. It's like the guy is a human being, or something. But
no, i'll just shit on the guy and his family, because I'm a total failure
and I can't accept my own shortcomings. Gotta giv' em som' o' dat

Went to Las Vagas for my Birthday and Anniversary . Went to Chumlee's and
Sage's Candy Store and gotten a Hug from my Chum. Was a Cute Store and was so
excited to see Chumlee there. Chumlee was so down to earth and Sage was so
nice. Loved the Candy ,don't care how much it was . I would love to go back
to Las Vagas and visit Chumlee's and Sage's Candy.

This is a family rated site, you know? Maybe Chumlee had a gun and some
reefer in his house (big freaking deal), but I never heard him use profanity
like you are guilty of. You are awful. Not that I really care.

Those are definitely "Guess" shorts. I'm thinking 300 to 325 pounds. Thank
God they don't make yoga pants in Chumlee's size.

Too hot for pants, but too cool for shorts? I've never understood men's
capri jeans. Why not pair those capris with the wrap sweater?

It's like that old joke: A guy walks into a dive truckstop restaurant, and
      sees a sign which reads : "- Cheese sandwich $2 - Hand-job $10" Waitress
walks up to his table, and he asks: "Are you the one who gives the
hand-jobs?" "Yes" she says with a smile. "Well wash your f#cking hands and
      make me a cheese sandwich!"

We know he had mad skills on the turntables... perhaps he should get his
foot in the door at the Rhino, learn the business from the inside and then
take his talents elsewhere. There's vacancy just down the street from the
pawn shop, last I knew. I can't imagine the OG space has been repurposed.

Rent, cheap. Rick just wants to keep the area busy and draw people in.
License, $200 a year for LLC & LPs. Tax, only on sales. You are not greasing
the wheels of local politicians to run a small candy shop, what favors can
they be looking for? Inventory, its candy at a wholesale level! He isnt
selling fruit, do you know the shelf life of most non-chocolate? Its years.
There is no Unitary Tax, or even a franchise tax in NV. Think of this as a
mall kiosk, 1 guy running the register so payroll is low. People drop by
hoping to see Chum, take a picture of the store (like they do at Gold &
Silver) and drop $10 for the novelty of it all. Easy money with a built in
fan base. The same TV watchers going to Gold & Silver will walk over to
Rick's place and drop by to see Chum's place. Next up is Corey's Porn Shop.
   Winner idea right there!

A Chumlee candy store? This smells like desperation to offer anything they
can come up with in order to keep the plaza from being as dead as Neonopolis.
And they know this has little chance of actually making money, hence they
operate the store a whopping 25 hours per week. It's near the end, Rick just
   ain't got the time....
