View full release notes WELCOME TO THE FREERADIUS PROJECT, THE OPEN SOURCE IMPLEMENTATION OF RADIUS, AN IETF PROTOCOL FOR AAA (AUTHORISATION, AUTHENTICATION, AND ACCOUNTING). The FreeRADIUS project maintains the following components: a multi protocol policy server (radiusd) that implements RADIUS, DHCP, BFD, and ARP; a BSD licensed RADIUS client library; a RADIUS PAM library; and an Apache RADIUS module. We provide a step-by-step guide to radiusd -X. The guide breaks down the different pieces of the debug output, and explains what they mean. Often you can just look for ERROR or WARNING to solve many problems. FREERADIUS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR AUTHENTICATING ONE THIRD OF ALL USERS ON THE INTERNET. Unfortunately I can not stop the radius server and do some cleanup. I have to do it during operation. QUESTION: Can I delete the records for which acctstoptime IS NOT NULL form the radacct table and can I delete records from radpostauth table without any problems to the curren productive system? Many thanks for your help! Regards, Roland July 29, 2021 FREERADIUS3.0 WITH LDAP CONFIGURATION I made this change in EAP and it worked on the iphone, on android I set it to GTC and it worked too, but I'm not getting it on LAPTOP with Windows 10. July 29, 2021 FREERADIUS3.0 WITH LDAP CONFIGURATION The setup is pretty much as the title states. On the same VM I have OpenLDAP and FreeRadius3.0 server that fetches the users from the LDAP directory. On my UniFi controller I point the authentication server to be FreeRadius. The odd here is that an Android phone with EAP method set to TTLS and Phase2 to PAP works fine. On the other hand I cant authenticate an iPhone device. I have attached the log files for both. Note I remove several retries from both files due to the characters restrictions in order to post it: iPhone Android Do you see something that I dont see? Mind that this is my first radius server so if you can guide me in detail to overcome this issue. I would be grateful. That should do your job. July 19, 2021 FREERADIUS SERVER IGNORES REQUEST MESSAGES FROM UNKNOWN CLIENT WITH IPV6 LINK-LOCAL ADDRESS OS - Ubuntu 16.04 64 bit (Virtualbox) I'm using freeradius-server 3.0.23, which is downloaded from https://freeradius.org/community/ and is installed with default configuration. Modification of clients.conf Modification of user Run free radius server with command sudo radiusd -X I can see the message being printed in terminal. Ready to process requests And I use following commands to test the server. ~$ echo "User-Name=radius5,User-Password=radius5,Message-Authenticator=0x00 " | radclient -6 [::1] auth testing123 Sent Access-Request Id 196 from [::]:35992 to [::1]:1812 length 65 Received Access-Accept Id 196 from [::1]:1812 to [::1]:35992 length 20 ~$ echo "User-Name=radius5,User-Password=radius5,Message-Authenticator=0x00 " | radclient -4 10.3.56.69 auth testing123 Sent Access-Request Id 68 from 0.0.0.0:43403 to 10.3.56.69:1812 length 65 Received Access-Accept Id 68 from 10.3.56.69:1812 to 10.3.56.69:43403 length 20 It seems that server is doing well on handling both IPv6 and IPv4 addresses. However, if I use link-local address, it fails. ~$ echo "User-Name=radius5,User-Password=radius5,Message-Authenticator=0x00 " | radclient -6 [fe80::bbfa:4b65:3c3:8978] auth testing123 Sent Access-Request Id 118 from [::]:35570 to [fe80::bbfa:4b65:3c3:8978]:1812 length 65 [Server-side log] Ready to process requests Ignoring request to auth address :: port 1812 bound to server default from unknown client fe80::bbfa:4b65:3c3:8978 port 35570 proto udp I don't know why [::1] is OK but [fe80::bbfa:4b65:3c3:8978] fails, note that this is VM's IPv6 address. The reason why I use link-local address is because my network environment doesn't have DHCPv6 server and radvd, so I can only use link-local address to connect. The main goal is, I want to test free radius client running on my embedded Linux board. I think the result should be the same as the test result on Ubuntu, so I should overcome this issue first. I guess the problem is in clients.conf, but I have no idea why current configuration doesn't work. It will be kind to point out my mistakes and misunderstandings. Thank you! July 16, 2021 HOW TO MAKE FREERADIUS AUTHENTICATE WITH CHAP INSTEAD WITH PAP I i have installed freeradius 3 on server, and i have try to test chap by and i received "Access-Accept". But when i tried to connect through captive portal with the same credential, it authenticate via PAP cause the password that saved in radpostauth table is saved as clear text, this mean that radius is authenticated via PAP. i also read that in file sites-enabled/default in the Authentication section This section lists which modules are available for authentication. Note that it does NOT mean 'try each module in order'. It means that a module from the 'authorize' section adds a configuration attribute 'Auth-Type := FOO'. That authentication type is then used to pick the appropriate module from the list below. and when i try to add inside authenticate to be like this it gives me an error So where i should tell radius to authenticate with CHAP only ?? July 16, 2021 FREERADIUS + ACTIVE DIRECTORY + GOOGLE AUTHENTICATOR I've been trying to make VPN users authenticate with 2FA (Google authenticator). At the moment I have Cisco ISE, FreeRadius Server, Active Directory. What I want to achieve is when a user connects to VPN (Cisco ISE) the server ask for user from Radius server then Radius server authenticate user from Active Directory. If user is authenticated successfully the FreeRadius server must ask for OTP from user. My configuration is : /etc/raddb/sites-enabled/default /etc/raddb/clients.conf /etc/raddb/mods-config/files/authorize /etc/pam.d/radiusd With this configuration FreeRadius server asks for username and password but after ad authentication server doesn't ask for one time password July 16, 2021 FREERADIUS GOOGLE DUAL FACTOR AUTHENTICATOR, PAM Hi I've been following this article to setup FreeRADIUS Google Dual Factor Authenticator http://www.supertechguy.com/help/security/freeradius-google-auth Hours of testing I still can't get it to work. If my /etc/pam.d/radiusd looks like the following it works well with the following command radtest test test localhost 18120 testing123 However if it looks like the following my log file says the following and auth fails. I'm using Ubuntu latest Does anyone know what the issue here? Many Thanks Visit FreeRADIUS on Stack Overflow LAST UPDATES July 29, 2021 FREERADIUS-SERVER set extra=0 only when min=max. Fixes #4163 July 29, 2021 FREERADIUS-SERVER typo July 29, 2021 FREERADIUS-SERVER formatting, and make it more consistent July 29, 2021 FREERADIUS-SERVER Fix unnecessary periodic close/open in connection pools (#4161) When "min" and "max" values of the connection pool setting were the same, periodic connection closing and opening occurred. It was different from the closing caused "uses", "lifetime", and "idle_timeout" settings. "spare" setting is not helpful since it is capped to zero by "min" and "max" are the same. The behavior of the issue is as follows. When the number of connections was "max" and there was an idol connection, it was closed without checking "min". Then, the number of connections dropped below "min" due to the close. Therefore, a new connection was opened immediately and the number of connections reached "max" since "min" and "max" were the same. These occurred repeatedly. So periodic close/open happened. This commit fixes the issue by adding the "min" check to prevent unnecessary closing connections. July 28, 2021 FREERADIUS-SERVER Fix idle_timeout (#4155) fr_pool_connection_release() recorded connection's last_reserved time instead of last_released. Since the last_released time of the connection was not updated, the starting point of the idle_timeout was always the connection opened time instead of the connection released time. This commit fixes it. July 28, 2021 FREERADIUS-SERVER Fix connection_check (#4154) connection_check() in pool.c did not work if more than 1 second has passed since the start of radiusd. This commit makes the function works as long as more than 1 second has passed since the last time it did work by fixing a comparison operator.
